Most children with healthy appetites are ready to eat almost anything that is offered to them. A child often likes food unless it is badly cooked. The way a meal is cooked and served is the most important and an attractively served meal will often improve a child's appetite. Never ask a child whether he likes or dislikes a food and never discuss likes and dislikes in front of him or allow anybody else to do so. If the father says that he hates fat meat or the mother refuses some vegetables, he may copy this action.
Parents should agree to the fact that he likes everything and he probably will. Nothing healthy should he to out of the meal because of a supposed dislike. At meal times it is a good idea to give a child a small part and let him come back for a second helping rather than give him as much as he may eat all at once. Do not talk too much to the child during meal times, but let him get on with his food. And do not allow him to leave the table at once after a meal, or he will soon learn to eat his food hurriedly, so he can hurry back to the toys in his room. On no condition must a child be coaxed or made to eat.

Halloween was on Monday, 31 October. We had a whole week to celebrate. It was called the Spirt Week.
On Friday before the Spirit Week, we were allowed to wear Halloween costumes to school. I dressed up as a witch (女巫). That was pretty fun! We got points for our class by dressing up.
We also had performances during the week. Each class had a theme. We performed Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The performance included a dance and a skit (滑稽短剧). I played the character of March Hare in the skit.
On Monday, we arrived at school at 6 a m. to do our last rehearsal (排练). I was so excited, even though it was early in the morning and it was very cold outside. We gave the performance in the main gym, and every student was there. I think we really did an excellent job! Although I only played a small role in the skit, I was still proud and happy. I learnt much knowledge about acting by performing the skit. The other two classes performed on the following days during the Spirit Week. Their skits were also very nice.

Is there intelligent (有智力的) life on other planets For years, scientists said "no." or "we don't know." But today this is changing. Seth Shostak and Alexandra Barnett are astronomers (天文学家). They believe intelligent life exists (存在) somewhere in the universe. They also think we will soon contact these beings (人;生物).
Why do Shostak and Barnett think intelligent life exists on other planets The first reason is time. Scientists believe the universe is about 12 billion years old. "This is long enough for other planets to have intelligent life," say Shostak and Barnett. The second reason is size—the universe is huge. "Tools like the Hubble Telescope (哈勃望远镜) have shown that there are at least 100 billion galaxies," says Shostak. "And our galaxy, the Milky Way, has at least 100 billion stars. Some planets going around these stars might be similar to Earth."
In the past, it was hard to look for signs of intelligent life in the universe. But now, powerful telescopes (高倍望远镜) allow scientists to discover smaller planets—the size of Mars or Earth—in other solar systems. These planets might have intelligent life.
Have beings from space already visited Earth "Probably not," says Shostak. "It's a long way away. However, intelligent beings may contact us in other way, such as radio signals (信号). In fact, they may be trying to communicate with us now, but we don't have the right tools to receive their messages. However, this is changing. By 2025, we could make contact with other life forms in our universe and we might help each other."

(4)Why haven't beings from space visited us yet according to Shostak

(5)What does the underlined phrase "life forms" in the last paragraph mean

I took the suitcase to the car, and then returned to help the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the car. She kept thanking me for my kindness. "It's nothing," I told her. Should teenagers be allowed to have jobs There are several ways to look at the question. Of course, in some family situations, having a teen's job may be good. These families usually can't afford to buy what their children like. If the teenagers want to buy something expensive, they will have to go out to work.
But what about the families that are doing all right and don't need their teens to have a job to get by
Some parents want their teens to work so that they can learn responsibility and stay out of trouble after school. Getting their first job also helps teach teens the value of money and how hard it is to earn. In fact, having a job is good for teens in some ways.
Not all teens, however, need the extra money by getting a job. If a teen wants to take part in after school activities such as sports or games, having job could get in the way of that. Teens only get one chance to be teens and being on school sports teams might be the only chance in their lifetime. Once high school and college are over, it will be very difficult to find such a chance. So parents should think twice before allowing their children to get jobs.
There are of course some teens who really want to work and that is fine. Everyone is different. If a teen wants to work to make extra money, then he or she should be allowed to do it. As teens, they should be allowed to learn about social life.

I learnt much knowledge about acting by performing the skit. The other two classes performed on the following days during the Spirit Week. Their skits were also very nice.
Our hallway was beautifully decorated. Everyone's locker was painted with colourful pictures. The curtains were hung below the light to make the hallway look dreamy. I liked it so much.
I really had a wonderful time during the Spirit Week! I am looking forward to the next Halloween.

Most young boys don't like growing flowers and watering them. But for 16-year-old Angus, working in the garden isn't just a hobby — it has changed his life.
Angus has a special illness and his IQ is lower than a normal boy. Six months ago, he started learning how to grow flowers. Now, he spends hours in the garden growing flowers, watering and looking after them. "Before working in the garden, it was difficult for Angus to concentrate in class and sometimes he didn't want to go to school," said his mother Kim. "Now he can't wait to go to school and he is happy every day. We can see Angus is able to work in a garden center in the future,"
Research shows that working in the garden improves mental and physics health. In the past, soldiers in Egypt treated their mental problems after war by working in the garden.
