【引导词】宾语从句的引导词是由从句的句子种类决定的。若从句为陈述句，则引导词为that, that无实际意义，在口语和非正式文体中常省略；宾语从句具有一般疑问句意义时用if或whether引导（与or not, 不定式及介词连用时用whether，不用if）；宾语从句具有特殊疑问含义时用what等连接代词或when等连接副词引导，它们在句中充当一定的句子成分，不能省略。如：

【作战秘诀】 有时很难从题中看出原句式。一般来说，若主句是陈述句，并且谓语动词是表示肯定意义的词（如hear, say, think, decide, tell等）时，引导词用that；若主句中的谓语动词具有否定意义或疑问意义的词或主句为一般疑问句时，引导词一般为连接代词或连接副词（who, where, when等）。
【时态战术】宾语从句谓语动词的时态由主句谓语动词的时态决定，它通常分三种情况：主句是祈使句或主句的谓语动词是一般现在时或一般将来时，从句的谓语动词可根据具体情况选用相应的任何时态；若主句为一般过去时，从句要用相应的某种过去时态；若从句表示的是客观事实、普遍真理、自然现象等，从句的谓语动词不受主句时态的限制，只用一般现在时。如：

When I was at university, I studied very hard. But a lot of my friends did very little work. Some did just enough to pass the exams. Others didn't do quite enough. Fred Baines was such a student. He spent more time drinking in the Tea House than working in the library.
