When Su Bingtian was first added to the track and field team of his junior high school, what he did most was not training or competing, but carrying bags for his senior teammates and watching them running.
Nobody, including Su himself, would believe the small boy could one day become the first Asian man to reach the 100m final at the World Championships, running side-to-side with the fastest sprinters in the world.
Born in a rural area in China’s southeastern province of Guangdong, Su started training in athletics in 2003. After 12 years of fast progress, Su emerged from a bag-carrier to the fastest man in the world most populous country, breaking the national record after he clocked 9.99 seconds at the IAAF Diamond League Eugene leg on May 30. He is the first and only Chinese that have ever dipped under the 10-second barrier. He attributed such progress to a revolutionary technique change starting from last winter.
When Su first began to train in sprinting, he had been using his right foot to start off. But he always found his third step a little bit weak and unsteady which would affect his intermediate running and the whole rhythm. After consulting with his coach Yuan Guoqiang, China’s first national record holder, Su has changed his way to start with his left foot going forward first.
“It was like a desperate gamble, a brand new start for me. I knew if it works I would find some room to improve, otherwise it could lead to the end of my career,” Su said.
“To be honest, I am not fully prepared for such pressure and intensive media coverage. I will learn to deal with it as soon as possible. But training and competing will always be my priority,” said a determined Su. “I hope my story can encourage those young people to believe that Chinese can also run fast. I do not think I am a hero. I am just a step-stone, like my coach Yuan, a step-stone to pave the way for more youngsters to push the speed limit for China.”
24. What does the second paragraph imply
A. Su Bingtian has a gift for sprinting.
B. Su Bingtian achieved success through hard work.
C. Su Bingtian seems not be talented in sprinting in his youth.
D. Su Bingtian ran the fastest in the world.
25. What is likely the most important factor in Su’s success
A. His competitive spirit B. His family support
C. His training strategy D. His experience
26. Which of the following best describes Su Bingtian
A. Determined and modest B. Ambitious and honest
C. Competitive and desperate D. Popular and tough
27. Why does Su call himself as “step-stone”
A. He hopes to inspire other young sprinters. B. He is not ready to be a champion.
C. He feels regretful for the speed. D. He enjoys training and competing.
C
Migraine is a disease that has a number of symptoms (症状), including head pain that can stick around from four hours to several days. While migraines can happen partly because of genetic (基因的) problems, attacks may happen by chance, set off by a cause in the environment.
One common cause is food, and some common dietary causes include alcohol, salt, sugar, chocolate, and caffeine. But there are many others, and scientists continue to identify more. Last year, for example, a Brazilian study found that watermelons brought on a headache within minutes in about 30 percent of the participants.
Some new researches are looking at which foods and what kinds of diets can prevent or lessen migraines. A new study published last year by a team of researchers found that a diet higher in fish oils rather than vegetable oils helped people ease their headaches. In the study, those on a diet lower in vegetable oil and higher in fatty fish had a 30 to 40 percent reduction in total headache hours per day, serious headache hours per day, and overall headache days per month compared to the control group.
Tanya Kamka had suffered weekly migraines for most of her life. Then, in her 50s, she joined the NIH diet experiment and increased her intake of fish. After only a few months, “I haven’t had a migraine, not even a mild one, in over two years.” she says.
For others, the solution comes from plants, not fish. A 60-year-old man joined a study on the food-migraine link and turned to a diet, which includes a lot of dark, leafy greens. After two months he was experiencing only one migraine a month instead of the 18 to 24 a month he’d suffered before.
Clearly, people with migraines react to food in very different ways. What works for one person may not work for another.
28. What do we know about migraine from paragraph 1
A. It is related to sleep time. B. It never runs in the family.
C. It lasts for at least three hours. D. It can be caused by the environment.
29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A. The length of migraine. B. Foods that lead to migraine.
C. The most common cause of migraine. D. A Brazilian study about migraine.
30. What can lessen migraines according to a new study published last year
A. Fish oils. B. Vegetable oils.
C. All kinds of fat. D. Various Vegetables.
31. Which is the author’s opinion about the effect of food on migraines
A. It varies from person to person. B. It can only stay for a short time.
C. It depends on the age of a patient. D. It is connected to how much one takes.
D
What is the greatest threat to mankind Maybe different people come up with different answers. However there is no denying the fact that the only threat to humankind, apart from humankind itself, is, without any doubt, the nature. Natural disasters are the result of natural environmental processes that have a damaging effect on people. Natural disasters can come in many forms: such as geological events like earthquakes, tsunamis or mud-rock flows, climatic events like storms, hurricanes or tornadoes and fire events like forest fires and wildfires.
The damage done by natural disasters is mainly as a result of our inability to predict exactly when they will happen. Although great progress has been made in designing and developing forecasting models for some natural disaster, complete certainty is still impossible. Even to be pessimistic there is a possibility that human beings will never achieve accurate prediction of the happening of all natural disasters.
What's more, even though we were able to predict these disasters from nature, preventing them is equally impossible. So we only have two ways to both prevent injuries or deaths and reduce economic losses to the least. These two methods are to prepare before a natural disaster comes to hit, and to manage the necessary resources and public services after a natural disaster strikes.
These two things have always been at the leading position of the projects of both national governments and international organizations. In the United States, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is responsible for the "preparedness, response and recovery planning" of both man-made and natural disasters.
Most natural disasters cannot be prevented, and both emergency preparation and good disaster management are the best ways to deal with them. Although natural events may appear to serve no purpose but simply to punish and destroy, natural disasters, a perfect symbol of the great power of the nature, are display of our planet's evolution and its state of change.
32. Which can't be regarded as a similarity between tornadoes and earthquakes
A. They can not be prevented.
B. They are both geological events.
C. They cause damage to people.
D They are both the result of natural environmental processes.
33. The reason why natural disasters cause so much damage is that ________.
A. it is very difficult to predict when exactly they will happen
B. our forecasting equipment is too old for many natural disasters
C. we don't do enough preparation before natural disasters strike
D. we don't have the necessary public services to use after natural disasters strike
34. It may be concluded from the passage that ________.
A. natural disasters can not be predicted at all
B. human beings are pessimistic to the future
C being well-prepared can avoid economic losses
D. good preparation and disaster management are advisable.
35. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage
A. a symbol of the power of nature B. the greatest threat to mankind
C. Natural disasters and mankind D. reduce losses to the least

Back in the day when I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life, I was studying to become a firefighter. I was a volunteer fire aide in New York, and was studying at Mission College. As a firefighter, you should always think of other people and try to help other people.
One night after going to class, I was walking home and decided to stop off at a fast food restaurant. I lived in an apartment alone near my college so most of the time I used to get a take-out, I got my food and started to head home when a homeless man walked to me. He looked 20 or so. He was very dirty and obviously very hungry. He asked me for some change to buy a little food. As I was pulling some change out, I had an idea.
I decided to see if he wanted to eat a real dinner, so I asked him to follow me back into the restaurant to order food together. For someone who had been on the fringes(边缘) of society it seemed like he was very surprised at my generosity(慷慨). But to me, it was what any ”human being“ should do or at least offer. He was afraid to go into the restaurant because of shame. But I insisted. When he finally followed me and walked into the restaurant, the people behind the counter refused to let him in, but I told them that I was buying him dinner and he had a right to be there. After some arguments, they finally let him in and he sat down at the table. It seemed like he was relieved a bit to be sitting at a table, I asked him to order whatever he wanted. He only ordered a hamburg, so I had to encourage him to order whatever he wanted.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally he ordered three hamburgers and we began to talk.

The first class is maths. I like maths. It’s easy. There are twenty-three students in my maths class, including a few exchange students who come from different nations. Chemistry is a bit boring, and there are twenty students in that class. The teacher likes to wear formal clothes and he looks nice. My English class is small. Science is very hard, though. Each class, we have a test. I don’t like that! The first class in the afternoon is physics and I like it best.
【答案】24. C 25. C 26. A 27. A

【答案】28. D 29. B 30. A 31. A

【答案】32. B 33. A 34. D 35. C

【答案】Finally he ordered three hamburgers and we began to talk. I asked why he was on the street. He was silent, with his head dropping. After a while, he said that his parents died from an accident when he was twelve. He had been homeless since then. There was no job he could do to support himself, He had no place to live in and had to hang out most of the time. Hearing his words, I was heartbroken. I asked him if he minded sharing an apartment with me.
He stood up and looked at me, open-mouthed. I smiled, repeating my words. Suddenly, he grasped my hands tightly, with tears rolling down his face. He couldn’t say a word but I knew what he wanted to say, I told him he could find a job near my apartment and start a new life! A bright smile appeared on his face, ”I couldn’t thank you more. You light up my life!" he said heartily. I felt very happy. After enjoying our food, we headed for the door as well as our new life.
