(2025·广西桂林·三模)Have you heard of inner painting It’s a form of traditional art in China. Artists use special, fine brushes that can go into very small containers (容器) to create their paintings. With a history of over 200 years, there are different schools of inner painting. There are four main schools, which are in Beijing, Hebei, Shandong and Guangdong.
Li Shaoyue, from Zibo, Shandong Province, is the fifth-generation inheritor (第五代传承人) of the Shandong or Lu school. She learned the skills from her father, Li Huitong, a master of traditional Chinese arts and crafts.
“I have seen my father do this since I was a child. He always works hard and tries to improve his skills,” Li said. She wanted to be an inner painter like her father because she knew fewer young people were willing to learn inner painting. “If it were to be discontinued here, it would be a great pity,” she added.
Li has worked as an inner painter for many years. Over the years, she has finished a lot of works of art for sale and show. She thinks inner painting requires inheritance and development. Old artists usually choose themes of historical scenes and stories. However, Li would like to use something new and modern as the subject of her artwork. “Now, I’m sharing inner painting skills on social media platforms (平台) to make more people know about inner painting. I hope more young people will practice it,” said Li.

Elephants are known for their high intelligence, empathy (同理心), and communication skills. A new study suggests they may have another amazing ability: They may give each other special “names”—an ability that no other non-human animals are known to have.
The lead researcher Dr. Michael Pardo said, “We all know that dolphins and parrots try to copy each other’s sounds to communicate. But our findings suggest elephants don’t depend on imitation. They seem to use the way in which human names work.”
The research team included Dr. le. Many times, she noticed an elephant calling out, with only one replying. The rest of the group would continue feeding, seeming not to hear the call. This led her to wonder if the elephants called each other by specific (特定的) names.
For their study, the team chose over 600 recorded elephant calls, or “rumbles”. They all seemed to be directed to specific elephants. These calls were collected over almost 30 years from wild elephants.
Elephants’ low-frequency sounds are hard for humans to understand. The researchers turned to machine learning tools to analyze (分析) them. The computer model correctly guessed the receiving elephant’s identity (身份) 28% of the time. While the number may seem low, the researchers say the elephants probably don’t use names all the time.
To make sure of the findings, some of the rumbles were played back to 17 wild elephants through a speaker. Sure enough, the elephants only replied to calls meant for them.
The study was in Nature Ecology and Evolution. Next, the researchers will go on to find out whether elephants also “name” other important things, like food, water, and locations.

My brother Mark started the family custom of moving in with Granny Kerns during our high school years. I lived with her all through my senior year. She lives very close to the school, so I’d come over and eat lunch with her. On game days, I’d come over and take a nap for two hours, Granny would always wake me up on time. When I just wanted to sleep in, Granny always said, “Larry, those other boys are down there. You should be down there with them.” I got up and went to the practice.
Mark and I would be at Granny’s for supper and later on, just before it was time to go to bed, Mark would say, “Mmm, some popcorn would taste good right now. Larry, what would you think about some popcorn ” Granny wouldn’t say a thing. But the next thing you knew, she’d have that pan out and you’d hear that popping sound in the kitchen.
Granny was proud of all her grandkids. Oh, she read everything about me she could get her hands on and she knew I’d signed contracts (合同) for big money, but she never discussed it. None of us got special treatment. Granny loved all of us and that’s the way it should be.
I’d have given her anything, but what she really wanted was security. Granny just wanted to know she had enough to get by. She always told me one thing, “I’m not afraid to die. When I get old and can’t do it anymore, I’m not going to be afraid to die.” That showed me a lot. Unfortunately, Granny passed away while I was writing this, so she was never able to see that I dedicated (献给) my book to her.

(2025·河北邢台·三模)Sally is a teenage girl who wants to be a dancer. But her parents want her to be a doctor. She wants to obey (服从) her parents’ wish, but she also wants to follow her dream.
Being a teenager is hard. You feel old enough to make your own decision, but your parents always think that they know what’s best for you.
So, how can Sally fix her problem
First, teenagers can try to look at things from their parents’ point of view. Parents often have long-term plans for their kids. When our parents control what we do, they’re only trying to guide us. Our parents have been through much more things than we have. So, it is reasonable to trust them. After all, they control us because they love us.
But let’s also look at things through a teenager’s eyes. Many teens feel like they can take on more responsibilities. Instead of just accepting our parents’ choices or arguing with them, we should try sharing our feelings with our parents. Sharing feelings with our parents can help make positive changes, while not sharing them can bring misunderstandings.
So, if you feel that your parents’ decision is unfair, you should sit down together and talk about it. By sharing your feelings and coming up with a proper argument, you may be able to change their minds. Their trust in you will also grow. As you get older, you’ll be able to make your own decisions.
