Harvesting fruit is a very precise operation. The fruit must be picked when it is perfectly ripe (成熟的).But with pickers in short supply in recent years, growers needed to quickly find another way to harvest their crops.Tevel Aerobotics Technologies came to help farmers with the Flying Autonomous Robots (FARs) that can help pick fruit.
“Not finding enough fruit pickers is every farmer's biggest concern,” Yaniv Maor,Tevel's founder and CEO said.Ask any farmer, anywhere in the world and they'll tell you they don't have the people.Food production is increasing, but labor availability (劳动力可用性) is decreasing. If there are not enough pickers, fruit will go bad on the trees. The flying robots will work day and night in almost any weather, without taking a break,to pick as much ripe fruit as possible.
Maor set up Tevel in 2017 and developed the technology after seeing young people pick fruit and get tired after a few hours. He realised that there had to be a better way,so he began developing the software and artificial intelligence (AI) that are needed for the smart robot pickers.“We have to teach the robots about the structure of each fruit, how to get close to the fruit and how to turn it and pick it from the tree,” Maor said.
The flying robots circle round trees and pick only the ripe ones with a twist (扭动) of their arms. The robots are fitted with cameras that use AI to assess the size and colour of the fruit so that only the ripe ones are picked. The cameras also ensure that the robots' paths are not blocked.
The robots are picking Asian pears in Israel. In 2022,the FARs were used in pilot programs in Italy to pick peaches and other fruits,as well as in the US.They don't substitute labor.Instead, they are a solution for the fewer human pickers. In the future, fewer people will work in picking and more will work in managing the robots, analysing the data and making decisions.

Eating ultra-processed (超加工的) foods for more than 20% of your daily calorie intake every day can set you on the road to cognitive(认知的) decline, according to a new study.Previous studies have found they can raise the risk of having obesity, heart and circulation problems, diabetes and cancer. They may even shorten our lives. Now,the new study has revealed eating more ultra-processed foods may contribute to overall cognitive decline, including the areas of the brain involved in executive(决策的) functioning—the ability to process information and make decisions.
In fact, men and women who ate the most ultra-processed foods had a 28% faster rate of global cognitive decline and a 25% faster rate of executive function decline compared with people who ate the least amount of overly processed food, the new study found.“While in need of further study and replication, the new results are quite convincing and emphasise the critical role for proper nutrition in preserving and promoting brain health and reducing risk for brain diseases as we get older,” said Tanzi,a Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. He was not involved in the study.
The study, presented on August 1 at the 2022 Alzheimer's Association International Conference in San Diego, followed over 10,000 Brazilians whose average age was 51 for up to 10 years.Just over half of the study participants were women.
Cognitive testing, which included immediate and delayed word recall, word recognition and verbal fluency, were performed at the beginning and end of the study, and the participants were inquired about their diet.“In Brazil,ultra-processed foods make up 25% to 30% of the total calorie intake. We eat a lot of hamburgers, chocolate and white bread. It's not very different, unfortunately, from many other western countries,” said co-author Dr.Claudia Suemoto,an assistant professor.
Ultra-processed foods are defined as “industrial formulations of food substances(oils, fats, sugars, starch, and protein isolates) that contain little or no whole foods and typically include flavourings, colourings and other chemical additives”,according to the study.

Emily’s parents could not afford to buy a new table. However, they agreed to buy her a second-hand table. But now, with the money she had, she thought that she would have to make up many lies to spend it. She would have to hide the money all the time. She thought, “This money is not meant for me.” She had felt the worst fear of getting caught from the moment she thought of stealing.

Possible versions:
Finally, she called her parents into her room. She showed them the money and told them that she had seen the bag in the store and stole it in this way. She had lost her honesty but she wanted to regain it back. “Let us take it back to the store and try to find the old lady’s family.” Emily told her parents. Emily’s parents did not get mad at her but appreciated her honesty.
The store owner was quite surprised on hearing the story. “You mean that you found almost twelve thousand dollars and you are here to return it ” he asked. Looking through the records, he found the family’s telephone number. Half an hour later, the family came over to the store. They were still sad about losing their beloved. It turned out that Emily brought them timely help, because they were in great need of money. Emily’s parents had tears in their eyes, feeling proud that their daughter had passed an important test—the lost and found test of honesty.
