When I first heard about Summit Learning, I admitted I was not a bit happy and excited at all. I thought it would require interactions with others. But later, I was astonished when I got to experience it firsthand.
Recently, we did a poetry project, and one of the activities was a peer (同龄人) review. I would never have taken part if it was up to me, as I preferred to work independently. But when I got involved, I found in the experience, I had done something that I thought was nearly impossible — it made my poetry better. My partner informed me of my mistakes and told me where I could give more detail.
One of our final products of the project was to present our poetry to the class. I’ve always loved public speaking, but I thought with Summit Learning, I would have fewer chances to speak. I was wrong. The peer activities we did with a partner gave me more belief in my ability and inspired me to do more to make my presentation the best it could possibly be.
Interactions like these are what Summit Learning is all about. This style of learning brings a positive and hard-working culture that allows us to push our boundaries and keep going. It creates a sense of community since we are all working towards a similar goal.
As an active boy, I have always been ahead and advanced, but in a normal classroom, there are restrictions on what I can do. With Summit Learning, I can go beyond expectations in projects or move ahead in learning new content when I’m ready. I have ownership of my work and pursue my goals.
Summit Learning has showed me how much people can grow and change. It has helped me see people and myself differently. It has been one of the greatest experiences of my life, and I cannot see myself going back to a normal classroom.

Scientists have found that floating solar panels could provide a huge amount of electricity if they were placed on lakes and other bodies of water around the world. Floating solar panels could also help save water and protect land.
Solar panels — also known as “photovoltaic” panels — are used to turn sunlight into electricity. Most solar panels are placed on land in large collections called solar farms. But recently people have begun to explore putting floating solar panels on water. Because these panels float, some people call them “floatovoltaies (浮动光伏)”.
The researchers behind the new study looked at 114,555 reservoirs (水库) worldwide. They used computer programs to figure out how much electricity could be produced yearly by covering 30% of these reservoirs with floating solar panels. The answer was surprisingly large — more than twice the amount of energy the United States generates in a year. And 10 times as much energy as all the solar power currently being generated in the world. The researchers described the results as “remarkable”.
The scientists found that floatovoltaies would be especially useful when reservoirs were near smaller cities (50,000 people or less). The researchers say there are about 6,256 cities around the world where floating solar panels could provide all the electricity the cities need.
Floatovoltaies can also help save water by limiting evaporation (蒸发) from reservoirs. The scientists say that solar panels covering just 30% of the reservoirs’ surfaces could save as much water as 300 million people would use in a year. There are several other reasons that make floatovoltaies a good idea. Photovoltaic panels work better when they’re not extremely hot. The water helps cool the panels so that they create more energy. Putting solar panels on water also means that there’s no need to clear land for a solar farm. That’s more and more important as countries work to fight climate change and protect natural spaces for wild animals.
28.What did the researchers think of the study results
A.Skeptical. B.Amazing.
C.Worrying. D.Interesting
29.Where should floating solar panels be placed to make them extremely helpful

B.In huge cities with many small lakes and rivers.
C.In tiny cities near reservoirs with less than 50,000 people.
D.In large cities far from reservoirs with more than 50,000 people.
30.Why is covering reservoirs with floating solar panels useful
A.It can help reduce water evaporation.
B.It can prevent water from being polluted.
C.It purifies the water available for consumption.
D.It provides enough sunlight for the solar panels.
31.What’s the best title for the text
A.The methods of using floatovoltaies
B.The prospects of the power industry
C.Solar Farms —Turning Sunlight into Electricity
D.Floating Solar Panels — Making Energy, Saving Water

Nuclear bombs. That’s the go-to answer for incoming space objects like asteroids (小行星) and comets as far as Hollywood is concerned. Movies like Deep Impact and Armageddon rely on nuclear weapons, delivered by stars like Bruce Willis, to save the world and deliver the drama.
But planetary defense experts say in reality, if astronomers spotted a dangerous in-coming space rock, the safest and best answer might be something more subtle, like simply pushing it off course by crashing it with a small spacecraft.
That’s just what NASA did on Monday evening, when a spacecraft headed straight into anasteroid called Dimorphos, which is around 7 million miles away and poses no threat to Earth. It’s about 525 feet across and orbits another larger asteroid.
In images streamed (传输) as the crash neared, the egg-shaped asteroid grew in size from a little spot on screen to have its full rocky surface come quickly into focus before the signal went dead as the craft hit right on target.
Events happened exactly as engineers had planned, they said, with nothing going wrong. “As far as we can tell, our first planetary defense test was a success,” said Elena Adams, the mission systems engineer, who added that scientists looked on with “both terror and joy” as the spacecraft neared its final destination.
The crash was the peak of NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART), a 7-yearand more than $300 million effort which launched a space vehicle in November of 2021 to perform humanity’s first-ever test of planetary defense technology. It will be about two months, scientists said, before they will be able to determine if the crash was enough to drive the asteroid slightly off course, probably shortening its original orbit.
NASA plans to launch an asteroid-hunting space telescope named NEO Surveyor in 2026. “We’ve tracked lots of space rocks, especially the larger ones that could cause extinction-level events. Thankfully, none currently threaten Earth. But many asteroids the size of Dimorphos haven’t yet been discovered, and those could potentially take out a city if they came crashing down,” explains Lindley Johnson, NASA’s Planetary Defense Officer.
32.Why does the author mention the movies
A.To make a prediction.
B.To provide a possibility.
C.To introduce the topic.
D.To make a comparison.
33.What can we infer from the passage
A. Dimorphos could cause extinction-level events.
B.The 7-year program has drawn a conclusion.
C.NEO Surveyor has tracked lots of space rocks.
D.NASA pushed Dimorphos by crashing.
34.Which statement does Lindley Johnson most possibly agree with
A.Larger asteroids will not be a threat to Earth.
B.NASA should shoulder the responsibility for the crash.
C.NEO Surveyor is expected to discover asteroids the size of Dimorphos.
D.Asteroids like Dimorphos are more destructive than other larger ones.
35.What is the best title of the passage
A.An intentional crash in spaceB.
B Threat to Earth from asteroids
C.The contribution to space safety
D.The impact of planetary defense technology.

As we walked along the street recently, my friend suddenly sighed, “How I miss the ice-cream my grandma used to buy me after school!” 36 , which cost her 9.8 yuan, almost 10 limes higher than the “grandma ice cream”.
But it was just one of the fair-priced treats. 37 It was written by a user who claimed he “randomly picked a plain-looking ice-cream” in a store, and was shocked when the register showed it was 68 yuan. He bought it anyway, but said that every bite tasted more bitter than sweet. “Never pick any brand of ice-cream you’re not familiar with,” the Weibo user wrote.
I miss the good old days too, but on second thoughts, I don’t believe that some expensive ice-cream means the market is “corrupted”. 38 . Consumption upgrades may boost demand and expensive ice-cream exists because some consumers like it.
Zhao Xuekuan, a senior ice-cream dealer agrees with me. His shop has probably the widest variety of ice-creams m the market. 39 , but young customers favor fancier ones. They are quite particular about the ingredients, expecting they provide not only good tastes, but also high protein and low calories.
40 . It’s a good thing that recently, the State Administration for Market Regulation issued a new rule that goods must be sold with a clearly marked price tag, or the retailer will be fined up to 100, 000 yuan. Let the fair play carry on and consumers will make their own choices.
A.They don’t choose cheaper ones
B.The other day I read a post on Weibo
C.While walking, she was licking on one
D.The development of a market has its own rules
E.For the past few months, many cities went through lockdown
F.Of course, market supervisors should still monitor ice-cream pricing closely
G.He said that the bestsellers in his shop are always classic types that cost less than 5 yuan each

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The two kids were whispering. Their dad, Jason, could hear them, but they didn’t know that. Jason listened intently.
”…and now I can’t sleep,” he heard his daughter say. “It’s okay, Ashley. Mom and Dad are sleeping. I’ll help you,” Todd said. “Thanks,” said Ashley.
Jason silently opened his bedroom door. His wife was asleep, and he decided not to wake her up. He watched as the two slinked (溜) down the stairs. He followed, unseen, unheard. The kids went to the living room. He watched as his son, Todd, put a blanket on the floor. He watched as Todd arranged the couch pillows on the blanket, against the couch. Ashley sat on the blanket and held her favorite teddy bear.
“I’ll be right back,” whispered Todd. Jason held still as Todd went to the kitchen. He quietly watched as Todd carefully made two peanut butter and jelly-sandwiches. And he watched as Todd went back to the living room and sweetly handed his sister a sandwich. Ashley gave Todd a smile. Jason wondered what show the kids would watch on television so late at night. He decided to find out before making his presence known. He did not expect to see what he saw next.
Ashley turned on a small flashlight. Todd picked up a book that Jason hadn’t noticed before. One of the two had carried it downstairs. “Okay Ashley, this was one of my favorites when I was little,” said Todd. Jason smiled in his hiding place in the dark. Todd was only nine. He watched, unable and not wanting to look away, Todd read in a voice just above a whisper while Ashley sat and listened and very quietly chewed. Her head rested on her brother’s shoulder, and she looked so peaceful. Could these really be the same children who had been fighting only a few hours earlier
Todd read another book, which Jason had also not seen earlier. Then Todd said, “That’s all we can do, Ashley. My teacher said we have to get at least eight hours of sleep. Give me a second to eat my sandwich, okay ”
