Joining the Hunan Mountaineering Team in 2023, Tang climbed Qomolangma from the southern slope (斜坡) in the same year. Two years after that, she chose the more difficult northern slope and succeeded.
Climbing Qomolangma is extremely (极端) difficult. The mountain is 8,484.86 meters high. The weather there is always changing. Sometimes there are big snowstorms, and the wind blows very hard. The air is so thin that it’s hard to breathe, and the way up is full of steep ice walls rising or falling quickly. And deep holes are everywhere. Among all these challenges, there’s a part called the “Second Step” at 8,700 meters. It’s almost vertical (垂直的), and climbers need a lot of skills and courage (勇气) to get past it.
Tang Ling faced many hard situations during her climb. The cold was terrible, with temperatures dropping to -40℃. The strong winds tried to push her down, and the snowstorms made it hard to see. But she didn’t give up. She trained a lot, used good equipment (设备), and kept going.
Her success makes people in Changsha very happy. She’s like a hero in her hometown. Her story shows us that if we work hard and never give up, we can achieve our dreams no matter how hard they seem. Tang Ling’s experience tells us that we should always believe in ourselves and keep trying our best.

Have you heard of Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbots (智能聊天机器人) Have you ever tried one made just for kids Soon, Google will put out its Gemini AI chatbot for children under the age of 13. But it has also led to some worries.
The Guardian reported that AI companies (公司) usually stop children at that age from using Gemini. This is to protect kids from breaking the rules. If kids break the rules when using AI chatbots, companies can’t do much about it. Also, laws protect kids’ personal information, but companies need it to provide services, said Colin Biggers & Paisley, a leading Australian law firm (律师事务所). To let kids use Gemini, parents need to set up an account (账户) for their child on the Family Link app. They should provide the kid’s name and date of birth. But Google said it won’t use children’s information to train its AI system (系统). Forbes also reported that Gemini acts like a study helper. It helps children with learning, creativity and looking up information.
However, there are still some worries. For example, some kids might also find ways to get around the Family Link app’s controls. When Gemini tries to stop kids from seeing unsafe things, it might also stop them from finding good information about growing up, said The Conversation.
Still, parents can help their kids use Gemini properly in their own way. They can open and close Gemini for their kids through its app and see what they’ve said to the chatbot. So, researchers have advised that parents should also do their part. They should check what the AI chatbot has said, help their kids to understand it and make sure they are right.
7. How does the writer introduce the topic
A. By explaining what AI chatbots are.
B. By asking questions about AI chatbots.
C. By comparing AI chatbots with Gemini AI chatbots.
8. What can we learn from the second paragraph
A. It is not good for kids to use Gemini at all.
B. Google will use kids’ information to train AI.
C. Gemini is more like a study helper for kids.
9. How can parents help their kids use Gemini properly according to Paragraph 4
A. By stopping them from using it.
B. By checking their kids’ chat history.
C By controlling what the robot said.
10 Which would be the best title for the passage
A. Chatting with Care.
B. Gemini: Your Best Friend.
C. How to Say “No” to an AI Chatbot
