Yesterday, we carried out a survey on students’ exercise habits in our school. The results are as follows.
From the diagram, we can see that 40% of students exercise less than once a week or never exercise. Experts recommend exercising at least three times a week, but we find only 28% of students manage that.
In my opinion, schools and teachers should stress the great benefits of exercise and organize more activities or competitions to develop students’ interest in exercise. Besides, PE lessons should be made full use of to ensure the required time spent on exercise.

"The Brain-changing Benefits of Exercise" is a video talk given by brain scientist Wendy Suzuki in 2017. In this talk, she shares her research on the effects of exercise on the human brain. Watch her talk and find out more about the amazing changes that occur in our brain when we exercise.
The key points include the following aspects:
1. Immediate effect : A single exercise session can increase neurotransmitters (such as dopamine and serotonin), enhance mood, and improve attention and concentration. The effect can last for at least two hours .
2. Long-term effects : Continuous exercise can enhance the attention function of the prefrontal cortex and significantly increase the volume of the hippocampus, thereby promoting long-term memory and emotional stability .
3. Protective effect : Long-term exercise makes the brain stronger and reduces the risk of depression, Alzheimer's disease or dementia, similar to building muscles to enhance overall brain health .
