Welcome to Computer-based English Listening and Speaking Test. CELST is a module of National Matriculation English Test (Guangdong Version), consisting of three parts. Part A is Reading Aloud. In this part, you are required to watch a video clip and read after the speaker in the video. Part B is Role Play. In this part, you are required to act as a role and complete three communicative tasks: listen to a speaker, ask the speaker three questions and then answer five questions from the computer acting as another role. Part C is Retelling. In this part, you are required to listen to a monologue, and then retell what you have heard in your own words.
Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. A red squirrel. He’s collecting pine cone seeds to help feed him through the long winter ahead. He’s been hard at work for two months. With all those savings in the bank, you might think he could rest easy. But life’s not that simple. Morning brings a scene of carnage. All appears lost. But here’s why this squirrel’s a hero. Up in a treetop, he’s been gathering a secret supply that the big guys didn’t find. He didn’t put all his eggs in one basket. Smart thinking. Just what you need to make it.
M: Hi, Mary. How about playing badminton this evening
W: I'd love to, but I'm going to night school.
M: Night school You still go to school
W: Well, but night school is not a regular school.
It's a place for people to spend the night in a meaningful way.

W: I think so. Many people go to night school these days.
There are about 400 people in my night school.

Mary and the Cat
Mary was a painter. She sold her paintings at a local art shop. But the paintings didn't sell well. The shop owner told her that people thought her paintings were dull and not creative. Mary was upset. One day, when Mary was taking a walk in a park, a baby cat came up, smelling her shoes. Mary was amused by the lovely cat. She stopped and played with it. When Mary was about to leave, the cat followed her. It was obvious that the baby cat was homeless. Mary thought for a while and decided to take the cat home. She fed it and built a cute cat house for it. The baby cat settled down in its new home. Mary spent much time with her cat every day. Once, when she was playing a toy with the cat, it occurred to her that she could record the growth of the cat in her paintings. So she got started. As time went by, Mary's cat paintings increased in number. She sent them to the art shop. To her surprise, the cat paintings were well received and sold out within days. Mary and her cat became famous.
