The day a freshman moves into Harvard Yard is always said to be an enjoyable one and this was certainly true of my first day at the university. As my parents and I drove into the Yard, I looked at the wonderful scene and thought to myself, “No freshman should be so lucky!”
I’m sharing a flat with four other girls. We are all completely different in terms of background, beliefs and interests — we reflect the diversity (多样性) that Harvard is so proud of. During this first week, it’s a comfort to have four girls I can call friends and that can help me deal with the new situation which is quite difficult at times.
Deciding what classes to take is the first step.At Harvard, the only necessary class for freshmen is a writing class — I’m actually able to take any classes I desire this year and the range of classes is amazing! How do I decide? Thankfully, Harvard allows freshmen to try classes during the “Shopping Week”.Classes meet at their regular times, and we’re able to attend as many (or as few) as we want.If I finally decide to take a course, I’ll be held responsible for any work done during the “Shopping Week” .On the other hand, if I find a class doesn’t suit me or the professor is boring, I can decide not to take it!
All of these first-week experiences will make great life-time memories but the greatest treasure Harvard has offered me thus far has been the other students I’ve met.Every time I see someone either singing a moving song at an A Capella Concert, giving an amazing violin performance at a talent show, or saying something extremely inspiring in one of my classes, I’m blown away! Knowing and interacting with so many gifted people is what has made my first week at Harvard a truly priceless experience. One week down, four more years to go — I can’t wait!
24.Why does the author feel it a comfort to have the four roommates?
A.They share the same flat with the author.
B.They have much in common with the author.
C.They help the author adapt to the new life at Harvard.
D.They reflect the diversity that Harvard is proud of.
25.What are freshmen expected to do through the “Shopping Week”?
A.Go shopping every day. B.Determine what courses to take.
C.Attend a writing class. D.Meet classmates on a regular basis.
26.According to the author, what is the best part about being a Harvard student in the first week?
A.Taking part in a talent show. B.Staying with talented schoolmates.
C.Performing a moving song. D.Enjoying the activities Harvard offers.
27.What is the best title for the text?
A.My First Week at Harvard
B.A Truly Challenging Experience
C.Choosing Courses for the Future
D.Tips on Being a Freshman at University
C

You might already know a lot of people in your class on the first day.But it’s a great day to make new friends, so try to say “hello” to the kids you know and new ones that you don’t.Make the first move and you’ll be glad about what you did and so will your new friends!
Most teachers let you pick your own seat on the first day, but by the second or third morning, they’ll have mapped out a seating plan. It’s a good idea to write down where your seat is in your notebook so you don’t forget.
Here are a few final tips for a fantastic (奇异的) first day: Get enough sleep.Have a healthy breakfast.Try your best.Develop good work habits, like writing down your assignments (作业) and handing in your homework on time.Take your time with schoolwork. If you don’t understand something, ask the teacher.

第二节(满分25分)

My first year of senior high school felt awkward. The school was twice as big as my old school, and to make matters worse, my closest friends went to a different high school.I felt very lonely.
One cold and windy Sunday afternoon, I was sitting at home at our dining room table doing homework, with a fire going in our fireplace. As usual, my cat was lying on top of my papers, purring (发出呼噜声) loudly. She was never far from me.I had rescued her when she was a kitten and put my name on her collar in case she got lost again.
Suddenly, I smelled something strange, and then I noticed that smoke was pouring in.It filled the room so quickly that we all ran out into the front yard.By the time we made our way outside, the whole roof was in flames and the fire was spreading quickly.
When the fire was finally out, our house was almost completely burned down.I was in a bad mood and then it struck me ... I hadn’t seen my cat.Where was my cat? Much to my horror, I realized that my cat was gone and my heart ached for her. Then all at once it hit me — the new school, the fire, my cat — I broke down in tears and cried and cried.
The next day, I went to school. But I was totally embarrassed by everything. My clothes and shoes were borrowed from my aunt.I had no books or homework, and my backpack was gone.I had my life in that backpack! I didn’t want to grow up if it was going to be this way.I just wanted to curl up and quit school.
It always seems that bad news spreads quickly.Everyone in high school, including the teachers, was aware of my sad situation. What a way to start off at a new school! This was not the kind of attention I was looking for.
The next day at school, people were acting even stranger than usual. They kept asking me to hurry up to the gym.I thought it was strange, but when I went into the gym, I knew why.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
There was a big table with all kinds of stuff on it.

A week later, I was planning my new bedroom when the doorbell rang.

(Text 10)
It was my 21st birthday and I wanted to have an unforgettable night. So I arranged to have a party at this famous hotel. It was a warm evening in the middle of August, but because it was raining heavily outside we had to stay in the hotel all night. There were a lot of guests at the party and the room was packed. I was dancing when I saw the smoke. People began to panic, but there were so many of us that we couldn’t get out quickly. Soon the room was full of smoke. I managed to open a window and get out of the burning building. The fire fighters arrived shortly after, but it took a long time for them to put out the fire. Luckily, all the guests got out in time. Some of them had to go to hospital because of burns and breathing problems. Fortunately, the fire fighters had put out the fire before it spread to the rest of the hotel. However, the room where the party was held was completely destroyed. I was told later that it was because the building had been struck by lightning. Can you believe it?

第二节
参考范文:
There was a big table with all kinds of stuff on it.It was like Christmas. They had taken up a collection and bought me school supplies, notebooks, all kinds of different clothes, tops, sweatsuits, etc.I was overcome by emotion.People who had never spoken to me before were coming up to me to introduce themselves.I got all kinds of invitations to their houses.Their genuine outpouring of concern really touched me.In that instant, I finally breathed a sigh of relief and thought for the first time that things were going to be okay.I made so many friends that day and I decided to move on and look on the bright side of life.
A week later, I was planning my new bedroom when the doorbell rang.“Does this cat belong to you?” asked a woman at the door.I couldn’t believe my eyes. She was holding my cat! I leaped up and grabbed her out of the woman’s arms.I held her close to me and she purred happily.Apparently, my cat had been so freaked by the fire that she ran away. This wonderful woman took her in and worked hard to find out whose cat it was.As I sat there with my cat curling up in my lap, all the overwhelming feelings of loss and tragedy seemed to diminish.I felt gratitude for my life, my new friends, and the kindness of a stranger. My cat was back and so was I.

  (Text 10)
It was my 21st birthday and I wanted to have an unforgettable night.
So I arranged to have a party at this famous hotel. It was a warm evening
in the middle of August, but because it was raining heavily outside we
had to stay in the hotel all night. There were a lot of guests at the party and
the room was packed. I was dancing when I saw the smoke. People began
to panic, but there were so many of us that we couldn’t get out quickly.
Soon the room was full of smoke. I managed to open a window and get
out of the burning building. The fire fighters arrived shortly after, but it
took a long time for them to put out the fire.

The day a freshman moves into Harvard Yard is always said to be an
enjoyable one and this was certainly true of my first day at the university.
As my parents and I drove into the Yard, I looked at the wonderful scene
and thought to myself, “No freshman should be so lucky!”
I’m sharing a flat with four other girls. We are all completely
different in terms of background, beliefs and interests — we reflect the
diversity (多样性) that Harvard is so proud of. During this first week,
it’s a comfort to have four girls I can call friends and that can help me
deal with the new situation which is quite difficult at times.
Deciding what classes to take is the first step.At Harvard, the only
necessary class for freshmen is a writing class — I’m actually able to
take any classes I desire this year and the range of classes is amazing!
How do I decide? Thankfully, Harvard allows freshmen to try classes
during the “Shopping Week”.Classes meet at their regular times, and
we’re able to attend as many (or as few) as we want.If I finally decide
to take a course, I’ll be held responsible for any work done during the
“Shopping Week” .On the other hand, if I find a class doesn’t suit
me or the professor is boring, I can decide not to take it!
All of these first-week experiences will make great life-time
memories but the greatest treasure Harvard has offered me thus far has
been the other students I’ve met.Every time I see someone either singing
a moving song at an A Capella Concert, giving an amazing violin
performance at a talent show, or saying something extremely inspiring in
one of my classes, I’m blown away! Knowing and interacting with so
many gifted people is what has made my first week at Harvard a truly
priceless experience. One week down, four more years to go — I can’t
wait!

You may not know a lot of people when you start senior high
school.Maybe your friends from junior high school are going to a different
senior high school.Even if you know other freshmen, you still feel
anxious that you don’t know any upperclassmen. How are you going to
make friends among this sea of unknown faces?
Most senior high schools hold the freshman orientation before school
actually starts. It is helpful because you not only learn your way around the
building but also get to meet some of your teachers and fellow
freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school,
you may already recognize a few familiar faces.
When you talk to people at orientation, you’ll probably find that a
lot of them are feeling just like you are. They’re all new to the school and
don’t know what to expect.Talking about a common concern (关注)
with your classmates can help you develop friendships.
The work in senior high school is something freshmen are probably
worried about. It builds on what you learned in junior high school, giving
you a more advanced (高深的) knowledge of many subjects. So you
may find you have more work to do or that it’s a bit more challenging. If
you ever find your work too difficult, teachers can give you extra help.
Senior high school also has more after-school activities than junior
high school, such as clubs, music and theater groups and sports
teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.
Junior high school taught you the basics of time management and
social skills while providing you with a little extra support and
guidance.Senior high school gives you the chance to learn how to be more
independent and responsible.

It’s school time again! You’re probably feeling excited and
maybe a little sad for the vacation is over. Some kids feel nervous on the
first day of school because of all the new things: new teachers, new
friends, and maybe even a new school.Luckily, these “new” worries
only stick around for a little while.Let’s find out more about going back
to school.
Most teachers kick off the school year by introducing themselves and
talking about what you’ll be doing that year. Some teachers give students
a chance to tell something about themselves to the rest of the class.
When teachers do the talking on the first day, they often go over
classroom rules so you’ll know what’s allowed and what’s not.Pay
close attention so you’ll know if you need to raise your hand to ask a
question and what the rules are about visiting the restroom.
You might already know a lot of people in your class on the first
day.But it’s a great day to make new friends, so try to say “hello” to
the kids you know and new ones that you don’t.Make the first move and
you’ll be glad about what you did and so will your new friends!
Most teachers let you pick your own seat on the first day, but by the
second or third morning, they’ll have mapped out a seating plan. It’s a
good idea to write down where your seat is in your notebook so you don’t
forget.
Here are a few final tips for a fantastic (奇异的) first day: Get
enough sleep.Have a healthy breakfast.Try your best.Develop good work
habits, like writing down your assignments (作业) and handing in
your homework on time.Take your time with schoolwork. If you don’t
understand something, ask the teacher.

第二节(满分25分)
  阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构
成一篇完整的短文。
My first year of senior high school felt awkward. The school was
twice as big as my old school, and to make matters worse, my closest
friends went to a different high school.I felt very lonely.
One cold and windy Sunday afternoon, I was sitting at home at our
dining room table doing homework, with a fire going in our fireplace. As
usual, my cat was lying on top of my papers, purring (发出呼噜声)
loudly. She was never far from me.I had rescued her when she was a kitten
and put my name on her collar in case she got lost again.
Suddenly, I smelled something strange, and then I noticed that
smoke was pouring in.It filled the room so quickly that we all ran out into
the front yard.By the time we made our way outside, the whole roof was
in flames and the fire was spreading quickly.
When the fire was finally out, our house was almost completely
burned down.I was in a bad mood and then it struck me ... I hadn’t
seen my cat.Where was my cat? Much to my horror, I realized that my
cat was gone and my heart ached for her. Then all at once it hit me — the
new school, the fire, my cat — I broke down in tears and cried and
cried.
The next day, I went to school. But I was totally embarrassed by
everything. My clothes and shoes were borrowed from my aunt.I had no
books or homework, and my backpack was gone.I had my life in that
backpack! I didn’t want to grow up if it was going to be this way.I just
wanted to curl up and quit school.
It always seems that bad news spreads quickly.Everyone in high
school, including the teachers, was aware of my sad situation. What a
way to start off at a new school! This was not the kind of attention I was
looking for.
The next day at school, people were acting even stranger than
usual. They kept asking me to hurry up to the gym.I thought it was
strange, but when I went into the gym, I knew why.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式作答。
There was a big table with all kinds of stuff on it.

A week later, I was planning my new bedroom when the doorbell
rang.

参考范文:
There was a big table with all kinds of stuff on it.It was like
Christmas. They had taken up a collection and bought me school
supplies, notebooks, all kinds of different clothes, tops,
sweatsuits, etc.I was overcome by emotion.People who had never
spoken to me before were coming up to me to introduce themselves.I got
all kinds of invitations to their houses.Their genuine outpouring of
concern really touched me.In that instant, I finally breathed a sigh of
relief and thought for the first time that things were going to be okay.I
made so many friends that day and I decided to move on and look on the
bright side of life.
A week later, I was planning my new bedroom when the doorbell
rang.“Does this cat belong to you?” asked a woman at the door.I
couldn’t believe my eyes. She was holding my cat! I leaped up and
grabbed her out of the woman’s arms.I held her close to me and she
purred happily.Apparently, my cat had been so freaked by the fire that
she ran away. This wonderful woman took her in and worked hard to find
out whose cat it was.As I sat there with my cat curling up in my lap, all
the overwhelming feelings of loss and tragedy seemed to diminish.I felt
gratitude for my life, my new friends, and the kindness of a
stranger. My cat was back and so was I.
