To help you plan an unforgettable trip, we put together a list of some of the most famousAfrican parks.
Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe
The park sits near the border of Zimbabwe and Botswana, the two nations with the largest and second-largest elephant populations on Earth. The best time to watch these“super herds” is during the May-to-October dry season, when they gather around watering holes. Moreover, one of the best things about Hwange is that it's within driving distance of Victoria Falls.
Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya
The Masai Mara National Reserve is known for being on the path of the Great Migration.During the three months every year, from the eighth, millions of wildebeests travel through the reserve to escape the Serengeti during its hottest, driest season. If you' re planning a safari during these few months, the Masai Mara is your best bet for amazing scenery with plenty of game.
Odzala-Kokou a National Park, Republic of the Congo
It's possible that you won't see a single other tourist in this lesser-known reserve. Near the northwest edge of the Republic of the Congo, Odzala protects a part of the Congo Basin rain forest, often called the“second lung” of the world. Here, you can canoe(划独木舟) along the forest waterways, walk through quiet woodlands while keeping your eyes open for chimpanzees(大猩猩) and elephants, and interact with Western Lowland Gorillas.
Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda
Queen Elizabeth feels a world away from the volcanoes and rain forests. Instead, you' ll find lakes and plains(平原). The park is known for its tree-climbing lions—— unusual behavior for the animals—— but there are also elephants, buffalo, leopards, hippos, and hundreds of bird species to spot. In addition to game drives, you can take boat trips along the Kazinga Channel and track chimpanzees.
21. What is special about Hwange National Park
A. It is close to a famous waterfall.
B. It is known for tree-climbing lions.
C. It offers gorilla interaction experiences.
D. It has the world's largest elephant population.
22. When is the ideal time to visit Masai Mara for wildlife viewing
A. During the rainy season. B. From May to October.
C. Early in the mornings. D. In the driest season.
23. What activity can visitors do in both Odzala-Kokou a and Queen Elizabeth National Parks
A. Canoeing in forest waterways. B. Searching for chimpanzees.
C. Observing tree-climbing lions. D. Watching the Great Migration.

Seven people have died in a landslide caused by pouring rains in Indonesia's Sumatra island, officials said on Thursday, adding to the death toll(死亡人数) from landslides in the region this week. Rescuers recovered the bodies of the victims, including a driver and passengers, from a tourist bus that was covered by trees, mud, and rocks in the landslide on the road from Medan city to Berastagi town in Indonesia's North Sumatra province. The route is the main access from the capital Medan to other districts in the region.
The bus was among vehicles that had been cut off by landslides on the road sinceWednesday morning. More than 10 people were also injured and have been relocated to the hospital in Medan city.
Muji Ediyanto, traffic director of the North Sumatra Regional Police, said in a video message distributed by Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency on Thursday that some vehicles remain trapped between the landslide locations along that road. “It will take at least two days to withdraw them from the landslide. Several vehicles are still trapped by piles from the landslides. There are also fallen trees at several points and landslides and the vehicles have not been able to get out of the locations,” Ediyanto said.
Earlier this week,20 people died after flash floods and landslides at four locations in the mountainsides of North Sumatra province, including Karo regency that is located less than 20kilometers from the most-recent landslide location.
Seasonal rains from around October through to March frequently cause flooding and landslides in Indonesia, an archipelago(群岛) of 17,000 islands where millions of people live in mountainous areas or near fertile(肥沃的) flood plains.
24. What happened to the tourist bus
A. It was hit by fallen rocks alone.
B. It disappeared in sudden flash floods.
C. Most passengers in it were rescued immediately.
D. It was buried by a mixture of mud and stones.
25. Why will road clearance take two days
A. Fallen trees block the roadway.
B. Rescue tools are insufficient.
C. Landslides are still occurring.
D. The injured hold up the traffic.
26. What can we learn about landslides in Indonesia
A. They often happen in urban areas.
B. They are predictable and preventable.
C. They primarily affect agricultural land.
D. They are common during certain months.
27. What is the best title for the passage
A. Flash Floods Made 20 People Lose Their Life.
B. Seasonal Rains Damage Facilities in Indonesia.
C. Landslides Cause Heavy Death Loss in Indonesia.
D. Rescuers Perform Operations on Medan-Berastagi Road.

The latest report on endangered species from the International Union for Conservation ofNature(IUCN) was shared at the COP29 climate meeting in Azerbaijan. Oceans have absorbed about 90% of the extra heat caused by carbon dioxide and other gases that trap heat in the air.Warmer ocean temperatures have caused widespread coral bleaching(珊瑚白化) worldwide, putting at risk important underwater ecosystems and the jobs of people who depend on them.
The new study examined reef-building corals that live in warm, shallow seas near the equator. It found that 892 types of these corals——44% of all known species—— are now in danger. This is a big increase from 2008 when only one-third were considered at risk. Scientists are still studying deep-sea corals that live in dark. cold waters because they are harder to observe.
The IUCN urged world leaders at COP29 to cut pollution from coal, oil and gas quickly.“Healthy coral reefs(暗礁) are vital for humans—— they provide food, protect shores, and absorb carbon,” said IUCN leader Grethel Agular. “Climate change is the biggest danger to corals and the natural systems we rely on.” Other threats include dirty water, coral diseases, and overfishing. Most reef-building corals live in the Asia-Pacific area, including Australia's GreatBarrier Reef, which had very bad bleaching this year.
The report included a new Atlantic Ocean coral study published in a science journal(杂志).It showed that nearly 1 in 3, or 23 out of 85. Atlantic coral species are in serious trouble—— worse than scientists knew before.
Two Caribbean coral types, staghorn and elkhorn, were named as examples suffering from hot water, pollution, and strong storms. “Unless powerful people make changes, we' ll keep losing reefs and seeing more coral species disappear,” warned coral expert David Obura.
28. What can be inferred about coral bleaching from the first paragraph
A. It reduces coral reefs near coastal cities.
B. It is directly caused by increased ocean heat.
C. It has no impact on human communities.
D. It makes corals more resistant to disease.
29. Why are deep-sea corals more difficult to study
A. They just appear at certain times.
B. They are located in polluted areas.
C. They live in ocean's lightless areas.
D. They move too quickly to observe.
30. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. Most corals live in the Atlantic Ocean.
B. Multiple threats are endangering coral reefs.
C. Scientists have solved the coral bleaching problem.
D. The IUCN proposed multiple plans to protect coral reefs.
31. What is David Obura's attitude toward coral reef protection
A. Optimistic. B. Objective. C. Critical. D. Concerned.
Do the wrinkles always form in the same way “I thought,I have no idea!” recalls the biomedical engineer Guy German from Binghamton University in New York. German and his colleague Rachel Laytin hired three volunteers to soak their fingers for 30 minutes.
Images confirm the pattern decorating the participants’ wet fingertips mostly repeated themselves when they were soaked again 24 hours later. As water steals into our skin through open sweat, it eventually decreases the concentration of salt in our outer layer. Nerve(神经)fibers remind the brain of this change in skin condition, which then activates our bodies'automatic blood vessel(血管) withdrawal. When these tiny skin vessels change, they cause once-smooth fingers and toes to become rougher.
“Blood vessels don't change their position much—— they move around a bit, but in relation to other blood vessels, they' re pretty stable, " explains German. “That means the wrinkles should form in the same manner, and we proved that they do.”
This wrinkling isn't just a random side-effect either. The physical changes create a measurable advantage in wet conditions: the skin's temporary rougher surface provides a better grip(抓握力), making it easier for us to walk on or grasp wet things. As these wrinkles give us super grip it seems strange we don't keep them full time. While researchers don't know why this is, they suspect the temporary roughness might reduce our fingers' sensitivity or make them easier to injure.
It was originally assumed that swelling caused soaked skin to wrinkle in the past, but a study in 2016 revealed our skin would need to swell at least 20 percent for that to happen. What's more, previous research found people with nerve damage don't experience finger wrinkling, leading to further investigation of the processes involved. “We' ve heard that wrinkles don't form in people who have median nerve damage in their fingers, " says German. “One of my students told us,‘I' ve got median nerve damage in my fingers.’ So we tested him—— no wrinkles!”
In addition to satisfying childlike curiosity, understanding this wrinkling of finger skin could help confirm identity after extended water exposure following natural disasters.
32. What does the underlined word“soak” in Paragraph 1 mean
A. To dry skin completely. B. To put in liquid for a period.
C. To rub gently with hands. D. To expose to sunlight.
33. What causes the wrinkled rougher soaked fingers
A. The rapid expansion of nerve fibers.
B. The rapid swelling of the outer skin layer.
C. The narrowing of blood vessels.
D. The increased salt concentration in sweat.
34. What does the study imply about the previous explanation
A. It was completely accurate.
B. It needed to be reconsidered.
C. It involved nerve-damaged patients.
D. It showed reasons for wrinkles’ lasting.
35. In which section of a newspaper does this passage probably come from
A. Science. B. Literature. C. Environment. D. Entertainment.

Sunlight came through the dirty windows of the classroom, making long shadows on the wooden desks. Master Ji was focused on writing equations on the chalkboard, his voice steady as he explained a hard concept. The only sounds were the soft noise of chalk and the sometimes rustling(沙沙作响) of papers, until a sudden loud argument broke the quiet.
From the back row, angry voices got louder. Chairs rubbed against the floor as Raman andMohit half-stood up, their faces red and hands moving around a lot. Their fight could be heard all through the now-silent room, and everyone looked at them. Master Ji stopped, holding the chalk in the air, his eyebrows coming together worriedly. “What happened Why are you two fighting so loud ” he asked, his voice kind but firm.
Raman walked forward, his hands balled up at his sides. “Sir, Mohit is so stubborn!” he shouted, his face getting even redder with anger. “He won't even think about my idea!” Mohit laughed in a mean way and crossed his arms stubbornly. “What Raman says is completely wrong! There's no use listening to him!” Their words mixed together as they gave each other angry looks, ready to start fighting again.
Master Ji lifted his hand, and his calm way of acting quickly made the room quiet. He motioned for the boys to come to the front, his eyes looking straight at them. As Raman andMohit slowly walked up, he pulled out a big thing covered with cloth from under his desk. Slowly and carefully, he took the cloth off, showing a ball with two different colors. “Raman,” he said, “tell me, what color is this ball ”
Raman looked at the ball, his shoulders tight. “It's white,” he said, sounding sure. Mohit made a disgusted noise. “No, it's black!” he said strongly, pointing at the ball. Their voices got loud again, but Master Ji just smiled, his eyes looking smart.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Master Ji patiently made them stop and said, “Now, change your seats and tell me the color again.” Raman and Mohit hung their heads, cheeks filled with shame.

Dear John,
Glad to hear that you show great interest in our school's kite-flying competition, I'd choose the dragon kite if I were you.
Firstly, dragons are symbols of power and good luck in Chinese culture. Flying a dragon kite will definitely make you stand out in the competition. Secondly, in terms of appearance, it has a long body decorated with bright colors, creating an extremely eye-catching effect when it soars in the sky. Finally, due to its large and well-designed structure, it can fly steadily even in variable wind conditions.
I hope it will help you win the competition. Looking forward to hearing your good result.

第二节(满分25分)
Master Ji patiently made them stop and said, “Now, change your seats and tell me the color again.”After they switched places, their answers changed. Raman now said the ball was black, and Mohit said it was white. With a kind smile, Master Ji explained, “This ball has two colors. The color you see depends on where you' re standing. In the same way, in life, we all see things differently. That someone else's idea is not the same as yours doesn't mean they' re wrong. When you disagree with someone, try to see things from their sides and tell them your idea. That's how you can have a good talk.”
Raman and Mohit hung their heads, cheeks filled with shame. Raman played with the edge of his shirt, while Mohit kicked a loose stone under the desk. “We... we didn't think,” Raman whispered, his voice trembling. Mohit suddenly stuck out his hand. “Sorry I called your idea wrong.” Raman grabbed it, and then they both burst into nervous laughter. Master Ji clapped. “Good. Now, let's solve this equation together.” He handed them a piece of chalk, and as their hands stayed over the board, sunlight pooled on the floor, breaking the shadows into bright spots. The classroom fell silent again, but this time, the quiet had something new——a sense that understanding, like the ball, needed turning to see all its colors.
