Sharon,Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself.Besides,I don't know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It's best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to.
Frank,Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day.You will probably love it.I know I did.You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable.Good luck!
Eddie,Aged 20
WhenIstartedhighschoolIwasreallynervoustoo,
especially since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn't really know anyone.I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier after you know it.
David,Aged 19
I'm not going to lie.The first day is kind of frightening. But you'll get used to it.Don't be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you're afraid.Just take it easy.Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it's really not bad at all.Don't worry.

From a young age,I was fascinated by language.I remember a holiday in Spain when I was 7.
TwoboysaskedifIspoke Norwegian.When I couldn't
respond, they ran off, leaving me upset.Back home I searched shops for old language books and enjoyed trying all these different words to express what was in my head.I thought it was amazing, and still do.
At university,I did a combined languages degree, studying French,Spanish,Italian and Portuguese. From then on,it became a way of life. After graduation,I worked as an au pair(互惠生) in Germany, and finally studied German.I cycled to the Netherlands, picking up Dutch, then took Russian classes in Spain and got a Czech diploma in Prague. It turned out that speaking a language abroad with local people was an ideal way to learn, especially in a time before the Internet.
Traveling to learn a language became an adventure—it came with huge excitement and of course lonelier, more complex moments.I have found that the speed of learning depends on the language and how focused when I'm studying. If it is similar to a language I already speak,I find I can use it in an understandable, although perhaps not polished, way within weeks.
I've studied more than 50 languages now.I generally use 15 weekly and more than 30 in a year.
I also advocate for local and endangered languages.Having a world of languages out there and not learning them is like watching TV in black and white and not knowing there is color. They will continue to enrich me for a lifetime.
The most important thing about learning languages is the ability to build bridges with other people. They allow you to experience dimensions(维度) and perceptions(认知) you may never have otherwise considered.
4.When did language learning become a way of the author's life
A.When the author was 7 years old.
B.When the author worked in Germany.
C.When the author studied at university.
D.When the author traveled around the world.
5.What factor determined the author's learning speed
A.The devotion to the language.
B.The number of places he traveled.
C.The communication on the Internet.
D.The degrees he obtained at university.
6.The underlined word “polished” in paragraph 4 probably means .
A.wrong B.perfect
C.curious D.positive
7.What's the biggest advantage of learning languages in the author's view
A.Narrowing gaps between people.
B.Traveling around the world freely.
C.Experiencing a variety of cultures.
D.Achieving high level academic degrees.
C
Going from middle school to high school can be difficult,as students are faced with new academic(学业的) and social challenges. Before the first day of high school, there are things every soon to be high school freshmen and their families should know.
People who have a fixed mindset(思维倾向) believe that they are born to be great or weak.On the other hand, people who have a growth mindset believe that their greatness or weakness is because of their own actions.I totally agree that students should have a growth mindset.I don't expect any student to move from just passing a subject to an A+.It's going to take time and focused effort; just keep working on it.
Parents should prepare students to fight the battle “on the pillow” and “in the kitchen”.When I say “pillow” I mean sleep. Not having enough sleep can have some surprising effects on students, including improper behavior, anxiety and poor grades. The second weapon(武器) is eating healthy and balanced meals.Studies show that students who eat nutritious meals and who exercise 60 minutes a day remain more attentive during the school day and experience improved academic achievement and grades. This last “secret” weapon is not to have over scheduled(安排过度的) time.Make sure students know how to set realistic plans and how to say no to tasks and activities that aren't important to them.
A lot of students know each other from primary and middle school. They are in their “comfort zones”,feeling they have a sense of control over and expectation of their relationships. But come the first real day of high school, that will all change. The reason I encourage high school freshmen to step out of their comfort zones, though often scary,is that comfort zones get boring and there are many kinds of people to get to know.Let's encourage them to get involved, have fun and play.
8.Which of the following represents a fixed mindset
A.I'm at the starting point of my potential.
B.My mother is not good at chemistry either.
C.I should start studying a little earlier next time.
D.It's okay if I fail; at least I've learned something.
9.What might the author encourage parents to do
A.To prepare healthy meals for their kids.
B.To praise their kids when they do well in school.
C.To take their kids to visit their grandparents often.
D.To buy soft pillows for their kids to have a good rest.
10.What is the third weapon mainly about
A.Enjoying good health.
B.Owning the ability to say no.
C.Balancing schoolwork and play.
D.Developing time management skills.
11.What does the underlined word “that” in the last paragraph refer to
A.The sense of control.
B.The value of friendship.
C.The feeling that they have control over relationship.
D.The feeling that they become helpless.

When did you last write a letter?Did you properly write one—by hand?In a digital world, sending a text or e mail is far more convenient than using traditional mail.Well, some people claim that writing still has many benefits,so maybe it's not time to throw away your ballpoint or fountain pen yet.
These days, when people request things in writing,a typed, electronic document will be accepted.Doing this on a computer means it could be saved, edited, copied and sent via e mail. But doing a handwritten document is unique: It requires planning and thought, and,as well as practising your handwriting,it helps you to remember spelling and punctuation(标点符号).
Some experts believe your brain benefits from using old fashioned pen and paper. This is particularly related to students, because typing notes into a laptop is thought to lack the “tactile feedback(触觉反馈)” to the brain. They think taking notes by hand involves cognitive(认知的) engagement in summarising, paraphrasing, organizing, concept and vocabulary mapping. They also agree that handwriting may improve fine movement skills of your hands and fingers.
There are everyday benefits to using pen and paper too.Writing notes, shopping lists or messages on the back of an envelope can still be useful, quick and convenient. But putting pen to paper in a letter to a friend or loved one can probably have the most influence.Pen Pal writer Katherine Moller said,“In a world where it is so easy to get online to e mail or to send a fast text,it is so personal and so precious to know someone chooses to turn off the virtual world to spend some time with you.”
So,while digital skills remain important, don't get rid of your pens and pencils yet—especially if your smartphone, tablet or laptop runs out of power!
12.Why are two questions asked in paragraph 1
A.To offer background information.
B.To ask for opinions.
C.To show disagreement.
D.To lead to the topic.
13.Why is doing a handwritten document special
A.It needs people to plan and think.
B.It creates spelling and punctuation.
C.It does harm to hands and fingers.
D.It helps the brain recover from disease.
14.What can be inferred from paragraph 4
A.Using pen and paper every day has many benefits.
B.Writing to someone shows true emotion.
C.It is not easy to e mail or send a fast text today.
D.Digital skills are always important and necessary.
15.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage
A.It's Time to Throw Away Your Pens
B.A World With Writing by Hand
C.Do We Still Need to Write by Hand
D.The Birth of Writing by Hand

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In a small town, there lay a garden nourished by sunlight and rain, full of life. Here lived a hard working gardener famous near and far—Daniel. His hands seemed to have magic, able to make the most ordinary seeds bloom into the most beautiful flowers, keeping the garden spring like all the year round and making it a beautiful scenic spot in the town.
Eric grew up in his father's garden and was curious about everything in the garden. However,in his school, most of his classmates came from wealthy families, discussing the latest video games, fashionable clothing, and upcoming holiday travels.Whenever Eric excitedly shared his new discoveries from the garden,he often received laughter and indifferent looks from his classmates.“Your father is just a gardener! You are a bumpkin(土包子)!” Such words, like sharp knives, stabbed his heart time and time again. He always cried secretly.
One day,Daniel found that his 11 year old son was crying silently and asked him,“What's the matter, son?” Eric replied,“My rich classmates laughed at me and called me son of a gardener. They said that my father lives only on the money that he earns from watering and feeding plants for people.” Daniel paused for a moment and then said,“Come with me,my son.Let us plant some flowers and it might cheer you up.”
Daniel held Eric's hand and walked him to the garden. Then he took out some flower seeds and said,“Let's carry out an experiment. We'll plant two flowers separately.I will care for one and you will care for the other.I will water mine with clean water from the lake, but you will water yours with dirty water from the pond.We shall see the outcome(结果) in the weeks to come.”
Although Eric was confused about why his father asked him to water the flower with dirty water,he was still delighted to join his father in planting the flowers. It took them some days to finally germinate(使发芽) the flower seeds. They cared for them separately and watched them grow.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Later on Daniel brought his son to the garden and said to him,“Look at the two flowers and tell me your observation.”
Daniel smiled and replied to his son gently.

Later_on_Daniel_brought_his_son_to_the_garden_and_said_to_him,“Look _at_the_two_flowers_and_tell_me_your_observation.” Eric gazed at the blooms, noticing a stark difference. His father's flower, watered with clean lake water, stood tall and vibrant, its petals gleaming with health. In contrast, his own flower, nourished by the murky pond water, appeared weak and withered, its colors dull.“Dad,why is my flower so much worse?” Eric asked, his voice tinged with disappointment.
Daniel_smiled_and_replied_to_his_son_gently.“Son,just as these flowers need clean water to thrive, people need positive environments and kind words to grow strong.Your classmates' words are like the dirty water, trying to dull your spirit. But remember,it's not their words that define you; it's your own actions and beliefs. You have a gift for seeing beauty in nature,a gift I've seen in few others.Hold onto that, and let it shine brighter than any material wealth.Be proud of who you are and what you come from.A gardener's son has a heart full of life and love, and that's something no one can ever take away from you.” Eric nodded, feeling a newfound sense of pride and determination welling up inside him.
