There are some apologetic terms (表示歉意的用语) in English. It seems that they mean the same thing. They almost do. However, what’s the difference between“Pardon ” , “I’m sorry.” , “Excuse me.” and“ What ”
Pardon
Americans don’t really use “Pardon ” If you do, they will probably joke that you’re trying to sound pretentious (炫耀的) or joke that you’re British.
I’m sorry.
We often use “I’m sorry.” for past events. That’s to say, it is generally used to apologize for something you have already done. For example, if you step on someone’s foot on a crowded bus, you would say “I’m sorry.” or “Sorry.”
Excuse me.
This is generally a term to ask permission (允许) for something. For example, you’re walking through a crowded space and someone is in your way. You would say “Excuse me.” to ask him/her to move out of your way.
What
Americans usually use it to ask someone to repeat himself/herself. If you want to be politer, you could say, “I’m sorry, what was that ” or “Excuse me, what did you say ” or any other such thing. Most Americans just say “What ” though.
In our daily life, we can also use these terms by mixing them up. You could, for example, ask someone to move by saying “Sorry, would you mind moving ” It’s an extra-polite way to make your request.

Vincent van Gogh (文森特·梵高) was born in the Netherlands in1853. Although he enjoyed drawing from the time he was a young boy, Vincent had a number of other jobs before he decided to work as an artist full time. At around the age of 27, van Gogh decided to throw himself into art.
When Vincent first started drawing, he used lots of dark colors such as browns and dark greens. His pictures were often sad.
Much of what we know about Vincent comes from letters he wrote to his brother Theo. Theo worked in an art gallery (画廊) in Paris and supported Vincent. He sent Vincent money and encouraged him. Theo tried to sell Vincent’s paintings, but no one wanted to buy them. Theo wrote to Vincent to tell him about a new style of painting in Paris called Impressionism (印象派). In 1886 Vincent moved to Paris to learn from some new painters. During this time Vincent began to use brighter colors.
Vincent liked to draw many things. He painted subjects from the streets and cafes of Paris as well as the countryside. He also became interested in painting portraits (肖像) of people. When he couldn’t find models, he would paint himself for practice. He painted over twenty self portraits during this time.
Although he wasn’t famous during his lifetime, today van Gogh is considered one of the greatest artists of his time.

Do you want to be a football coach or a policeman If you could do any job for a day, what would it be Takeover Day (接管日) offers young people this chance.
Takeover Day is an event for young people to “take over” the day from adults. Of course, it’s difficult to give someone the job of a film star or a model! However, Takeover Day has offered young people jobs as news reporters, teachers and even politicians (政客).
There are two purposes. First, it gives young people experience in different kinds of jobs. Second, adults can learn from young people’s opinions and fresh ideas.
Here is what some students say about their Takeover Day.
Simon, 15, went to a football club. He became a coach of the football team for a day. “It was an important experience,” said Simon. “If I had the chance, I would do this job every day.”
Sally, 14, became the head teacher of her school. She learned a lot. “I’d go crazy if I were a head teacher! So many meetings!” she said. “My favorite part of the day was meeting the school cook. It was a great chance to tell her what we really like eating!”
Paul, 13, spent the day with an important politician. “It isn’t a nine-to-five job. It’s 24 hours a day or 7 days in a week,” he said. “We are too busy to have lunch.”
21.What is Takeover Day
22.What’s the purposes of Takeover Day (列举一条即可)

We all enjoy being part of a group—there’s no better work than teamwork, right Actually, I disagree. Teamwork can be hard. In fact, it was so difficult. To make my job easier, I left my office job and started working from home on my own. It’s a much better fit for me, and it has made me think about why teamwork can make our jobs harder rather than easier.
To start with, personalities (个性)can make team work difficult. There’s often someone on the team that puts their needs first. The team often goes along with this person, whose ideas might not be the best, just the loudest. Just one difficult personality can make team work bine(结合)several challenging personality types, and it’s even harder.
Not having enough time together can also make teamwork challenging. For example, I was once on a team where we never had enough time to meet as a group. To successfully work as a team, you need time together.
A final reason teamwork is difficult is because there’s often no training on how to work on a team. You can’t just put people in a room and expect them to work well with each other. You need to build trust with your team members. Think of football players: They aren’t just given a ball and told to play. They practice and they train.
Team can be hard, but working alone has its challenges, too. When my computer doesn’t work, I don’t have an IT person to turn to. When I have a great idea, I don’t have anyone to share it with to see if it really is a great idea. Don’t get me wrong—I still like my team of one and enjoy making all of the important decisions myself. But now I realize what was wrong with the teamwork I did in the past and how good teamwork could be if done correctly. And that’s useful information—because one day I might want to turn my ME TEAM into a WE TEAM.
26.Why did the writer choose to work from home on his own
27.How many reasons that make teamwork difficult are mentioned Please write the key words that help you find the reasons.
28.What’s the topic sentence(中心句)of Paragraph 5
29.May WE TEAM be the writer’s choice one day
30.Do you like working on a team or working alone Why

What’s your dream job How much do you know about your dream job The questions are closely connected with your whole life. A group of students from Tianjin found most teenagers have little idea about their career (职业) plans.
To offer teenagers helpful career advice, the students from Tianjin TEDA No. 1 Middle School started a project called “Dian Zhi Cheng Shi”. “Our survey shows that 72 percent of students want to know more about different jobs. Doctors, accountants (会计) and lawyers are the top three,” said Wang Xinran, 16, the project leader.
Based on students’ needs, the team interviewed 32 professionals in different fields and posted their interviews on social media. Professionals share true stories behind each job, allowing students to learn about the jobs deeply. “We also invited the professionals to give speeches in our school so that students could talk to them face to face,” said Wang.
Team member Lyu Jinyan said his most impressive (印象深刻的) interview was with a photographer (摄影师). “I used to think being a photographer was easy. But now I know that they need to deal with lots of problems, such as a sudden change of weather.”
But the project doesn’t mean to disappoint students by telling them the truth. The project’s name means to turn a career into a poem. And the team hopes it can let students know that working is not just about bread and butter. It should be like a poem, full of love and beauty.
Career plans play an important role in our whole life. However, most teenagers have little idea about them. To provide 31 career advice for teenagers, some students in a middle school of Tianjin created a project called “Dian Zhi Cheng Shi”. According to the survey made by the team, 72 percent of students are interested in different jobs. To meet their needs, the team interviewed 32 professionals and 32 them to give speeches in school. These activities helped students understand different jobs 33 . After talking with the professionals, students realized that some jobs are more 34 than they thought. However, the project doesn’t mean to make students disappointed by telling them the 35 . It is to tell them working should be filled with love and beauty, just like poems.

The topic of China’s “slash youths”(斜杠青年) has been hot on social media for some time, drawing attention to the different pursuits (追求) of the young people nowadays.
The “slash youths” means those who have more than one personal identity (身份).They like to show or describe themselves with different identities, such as a nurse and model, a teacher and excellent singer, or an engineer and band player. Li Lan is one of them. She mainly works as a tour guide, and she is also known as a great designer who created many great book covers. Rather than comfortable life, she pursues more meaningful achievement.
A different job can make them develop new experience and talents. What’s more, they can get accepted by others and they can have a sense of satisfaction.
A study on “slash youths” in the China Youth Research magazine talks about the background of this phenomenon (现象). From the point of social development, changeable job markets have appeared because the modern society’s usual organization is partly being broken. As for young people themselves, when they try to re-find the meaning of work, they face the difficulty of self-development, like feeling powerless, worthless in the job and so on.
Clearly, the appearing of the slash life leads to some changes. “The slash life shows that our society is changing for the better in some ways, and it welcomes everyone’s self-development,” said Shi Yanrong, an associate researcher from Tianjin Academy of Social Sciences. “Young people no longer have to depend on work and money for their sense of self-development. They would like to create their own identities.” The researcher added that because people have different interests and are willing to pay for these interests nowadays, the slash life of the youth would drive the growth of a new economy (经济) and its development.
36.Do the slash youths have more than one personal identity
37.How would the slash life influence the economy
38.In the passage, what is the background of the “slash youths” phenomenon
39.What will be your identities if you are encouraged to be one of the “slash youths” in the future Why

This is not an office job, as wine tasters travel around the world throughout the year.
Another unusual job is the travel writer. Travel writers travel around the world and write about their experiences. They post their articles on an online blog or in a magazine. It may seem like the perfect way to make money, but there is a lot of hard work to do. Travel writers have to be prepared to travel on short notice. They must have official documents (公文) like passports. They must have personal belongings ready at all times. Being good at research is a must for travel writers. They must choose the best things to do on a brief (短暂的) trip. Good travel writers have to write their articles well and attract readers in large numbers. Travel writers often endure (忍受) sleepless nights and long wait times at the airport.

This is what happened to the German Shepherd, Dorka. She was a bomb-detection (探测炸弹的) dog with the US Army in Afghanistan. Every day, with her owner Monte, she would look for bombs to protect the soldiers.
When the dog and her owner’s duties were over, Monte brought Dorka home with him. But he soon found that Dorka was sad. She missed her job and the sense of purpose it gave her. Her owner tried different ways to cheer her up but they didn’t work. Then he had an idea.
He began hiding objects for Dorka to find. The objects had a similar smell to what Dorka had been trained to look for. He’d hide them under parked cars or other hidden places. On their walks, it would be Dorka’s job to find these hidden objects. Soon, Monte noticed Dorka’s ears stand up and that her youthful energy had returned.
“I immediately saw she was back to her happy self,” said Monte in a video he made for their TikTok channel, shared by the animal lovers’ site, The Douyin. “Seeing her happy makes me happy,” said Monte in the video.

Galante is a wildlife biologist studying animals that are nearly dying out. A reporter Daniels spoke with him about his job. Read part of their conversation below.
Daniels: How old were you when you knew you wanted to be a biologist
Galante: For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to work with animals, or study animals, or just have anything to do with animals. But it wasn’t really until after graduating from college with a biology degree that I was like, “Oh, okay, I’m actually a biologist now.”
Daniels: You’re able to travel all around the world. What are some of your favourite places that you have been to over the years
Galante: I’m very lucky with all the places I’ve got to go. Africa is always closest to my heart. You see elephants and lions and all these big animals. But my favorite place I’ve ever been is Palau (帕劳群岛). I was amazed by the underwater scene there.
Daniels: What’s the best and most rewarding part of your job
Galante: The best and most rewarding part of my job is what we’re doing right now. It’s inspiring young people to care so much about wildlife. To tell you the truth, I love to travel and work with animals. But all of that can’t be compared to the most exciting and rewarding moment when I get an email from somebody like you. Firefighting (消防) is an important job to keep people safe and help stop fires from damaging (毁坏) too much property (财产).
There are many important parts to be a firefighter. First of all firefighters have to be strong enough to do their work, so they need to have physical training, such as carrying heavy objects, going up many stairs (楼梯), and working for a long time. Firefighters also have to know the latest skills in fighting fires, so they need to go through regular training to keep themselves and others safe. Anyway, the most important part of being a firefighter is to work as a team. They have to work together to stop fires!
Firefighting is very stressful. Firefighters never know when a fire or other emergency (紧急情况) is going to happen, so they have to be ready at all times. Even in the middle of the night, firefighters have to be able to wake up quickly when the alarm (警报) goes off.
Firefighters don’t just fight house fires. They also help people who are in accidents. For example they use their special tools to help get people out of the cars if they’re stuck (卡住). In some places, firefighters also have to be prepared to help people who are sick or injured (受伤的). These firefighters might be trained as nursing staff.
Firefighters are always there to help us whenever there’s an emergency. Firefighting is not easy, but if you like helping people, it might be a good job for you!

As an astronaut, the change of gravity(重力)was the most difficult part of the journey. The pull of gravity was the strongest when we left the earth’s atmosphere(大气层). We were heavily pushed back into our seats and couldn’t even talk. But when we got into space, we cheered up immediately and floated weightlessly around in our spaceship cabin(太空舱) because the gravity had disappeared. But we faced a new problem. We had to watch out when eating. In order to prevent our food from floating away, we had to eat special food made for space. Then it was very frightening when we returned to the earth. Fire broke out on the outside of the spaceship as the earth’s gravity increased. It was really an exciting but difficult experience.

But my favorite place I’ve ever been is Palau(帕劳群岛).
I’m so delighted to hear “I want to do that when I grow up.” And so that’s what makes it all worth it: inspiring the next generation of young people to protect our environment.

Dong Yuhui, one of the teachers at New Oriental, became the latest star on Douyin. There were about 108,000 people in the online studio on Friday, with sales hitting 15.34 million yuan. Such a way of teaching English and selling things at the same time made young people show great interest in it. For example, when Dong sold rice, he also introduced the English word “rice”, and how to use “rice” in a phrase or a sentence. In this way, Dong sold more than 6,700 bags of rice in just a few minutes. They left messages in the comment section (评论区), saying it seemed to send them back to class at New Oriental.
Yu Minhong, the company’s leader, also showed in the studio, selling things with the teachers or hosts. So far, the studio has had about 2.5 million followers. On the evening of December 28, 2021, Yu just had the first livestreaming of agricultural products (农产品) on Douyin. And it set his studio “on fire” in less than a week. Yu talked about selling products in two languages, and he said this was a very important change for New Oriental. “They have changed from being teachers to being livestreaming hosts, who keep teaching English, because of consumers’ support,” Yu said.
