Four Festivals From Around The World
It seems every country has its inviting events on the annual calendar. Here we’ve boiled down the options to add to your bucket list.
Boryeong Mud Festival, Republic of Korea
The extensive beneficial qualities of the mud in Boryeong coastal region have prompted wellness-related lines, as well as an entire coastal festival. The festival celebrates the natural benefits of this precious resource with a dose of pops, beach fun and street food, drawing visitors from around the world to get messy and learn about the region’s resources.

The Festival Centre and exhibition park are located in an urban coastal wilderness, formerly an industrial shipyard site. With the theme “Entanglement” for the 2024 edition of the festival, it encouraged people to think relations on all the ways we are co-dependently connected.

As a big country, China’s economic and political influence is felt around the world. And its influence in education and culture has been growing too. The Confucius Institute offering free language classes has gained increasing popularity in both Hungary and Serbia. By offering opportunities to learn the Chinese language and traditional arts, Confucius Institutes bring Chinese culture closer to interested learners serving as bridges between nations.
During my childhood, I held an unspoken fascination for Asian culture,a passion cultivated through watching dramas such as the Monkey King. At the time, the idea of studying this captivating region didn’t occupy my mind. My turning point came when the desire to challenge myself led me to choose China for further education. It was a decision—not only for academic growth, but also to experience the responsibility of looking after myself. Taking the road that is less traveled means less company, less comfort. But it also means forging a life with an entirely different perspective I am seeking.
Undertaking the Chinese language training presented a remarkable opportunity for many reasons. I firmly believe that acquiring proficiency in the language of the culture is not merely useful, but is also an effective means to truly understand that culture. The combination of learning the language in a classroom setting and applying it in everyday life offers an enriching experience. I participated in the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations held by my local Confucius Institute, such as trying my hand at Chinese crafts providing me with a first-hand experience of the culture.
If given another chance, I would explore even deeper into the rich cultural tapestry that surrounds me. Exploring renowned landmarks like the oriental Pearl Tower previously unvisited, felt like embarking on a new journey of discovery. I can say that along this path, I am gradually learning that valuable lessons unfold step by step.
4.What is the main function of the Confucius Institute in global cultural exchanges
A.Offering language courses with a very small fee.
B.Fostering international understanding of Chinese culture.
C.Promoting Chinese tourism and business opportunities abroad.
D.Serving as a platform for economic cooperation between countries.
5.What makes the author decide on further education in China
A.The TV drama the Monkey King.
B.The Asian cultural fascination.
C.The desire for whole-person growth.
D.The dream to study in a foreign place.
6.Why does the author share her experience with Mid-Autumn Festival
A.To highlight the challenges of living abroad.
B.To encourage others to participate in local festivals.
C.To criticize the traditional classroom language learning.
D.To emphasize interactive learning in cultural understanding.
7.Which is the most suitable title for the text
A.The Path Less Traveled
B.Language as a Bridge to Culture
C.Guide to Studying Abroad in China
D.Embracing Art: Beyond the Classroom

The Feast of the Seven Fishes is an Italian-American tradition that dates back to an immigration (移民) wave in the 1900s. The Italian- American tradition of the “Feast of the Seven Fishes” has appeared in movies and recently in the hit show The Bear. But talking of the origin, you’ll get many different answers. The Feast of the Seven Fishes is a dear tradition to many Italian Americans who enjoy at least seven different seafood dishes on Christmas Eve.
A vast majority of Italian immigrants to the United States were from rural Southern Italy at the turn of the 19th century. They came to America because there were jobs from building railroads to skyscrapers. Friends and families found success and brought their loved ones to the U.S. Some say fish was chosen for the Feast because it was plentiful for impoverished families in Southern Italy. Others say the sea represented Italian Americans’ connection between their old and new homes.
Writer and director Robert Tinnell made a comic in 2004 about his experience with the Feast of the Seven Fishes, which he later made into a 2019 movie. Growing up in North Central West Virginia, he fondly remembers his great grandmother organizing the Feast. After she died, his grandfather and other men in the family took over. That particular manly activity is something that the first Italian immigrants would have also performed out of necessity: men came to America first, without their wives and daughters.
However, knowledge about where to shop, when to prepare, how to cook, the history behind the meal and family traditions soon became the responsibility of mothers to pass down to their daughters, says Di Giovine, a professor at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. They are also likely the ones who have the final say in making changes to recipes. Over time, families often adjust the menu to make things easier, cheaper, more abundant, and more accommodating of dietary restrictions.
8.What do we know about the Feast of the Seven Fishes
A.It relates to a story of Italians.
B.It’s made up of seven fishes.
C.It marks a vital historic event.
D.It’s about Americans in Italy.
9.What does the underlined word “impoverished” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Needy. B.Unfortunate.
C.Extended. D.Uneducated.
10.What can we infer about Robert Tinnell from paragraph 3
A.He loves fishes. B.He’s an editor.
C.He’s emotional. D.He teaches writing.
11.What can be the best title for the text
A.A Fish-making Method B.A Festival Tradition
C.A Cookery Book D.A Special Celebration

The holidays can be a divisive season. Because the holidays are full of merriness, some love them. Others can feel troubled by them, affected by the financial pressure and family gatherings often accompanying the holidays. 1 So, what can you do if you’re feeling like that Roll your sleeves up. We’re going to get real, make a plan and enjoy the holiday atmosphere.
2 This may be obvious for many — you may feel triggered owing to the stress of social events or gift-giving. But others may have a harder time detecting what is going on.
Begin tracking how you’re feeling on the day-to-day life. You can keep a journal or take a brief walk where you can reflect at the end of your day. Doing this lets you see a pattern of what may be activating your negative feelings.
After getting your triggers written down, let’s make a plan. If it is money fueling the discomfort, let’s strategize how you can cut down the financial expectations. You can select a thoughtful low-cost decoration or a bunch of flowers. 3 Don’t be afraid to let them know your financial condition. If holiday gatherings are extremely stressful, it is time to see how this can shift. Avoiding holiday gatherings altogether isn’t possible for most. However, you can consider an excuse that can serve as a reason to leave early. 4
Rethink how to love yourself rather than care for others too much. If you have to be with someone, are you at risk of yourself because of arguments or conflicts 5 Minimizing the time you spend with them is a wise choice.
A.Keep track of your daily actions.
B.It will help you get through the tense situation.
C.Hosting a gathering can be another costly issue.
D.Feeling joyless during the holidays can be really awful.
E.You can also offer meaningful time spent with loved ones.
F.The truth is that it is hard to engage with people who hurt you.
G.Let’s begin by identifying what is causing you the intense anxiety.
