五、教学过程
Step 1 Review and Check
1. Greeting.
2. Check their preview homework.
1) Let some of the Ss read the words and then teach the words
2) Work in groups to exchange and discuss the meaning of the text and translate the expressions.
3) Ask some of them to show their results.
Step 2 Presentation
Use a compass or the real orientation of the classroom to demonstrate north, south, east and west. Then ask Ss.
T: Do you know how to talk about directions on a map?
Ss: … (They may say it in Chinese:上北下南，左西右东。)
T: Great! But in English, we say it like this on a map: North points up. South points down. West points left. East points right.
Write them on the Bb or show them on the screen. Have Ss do the actions while repeating the sentences.

1. Play the tape for Part 1, listen to the tape and repeat.
2. Class work: Let’s do it! No1. Listen and fill.
3. Check the answers.
Step 4 Read and act.
1. Listen Part 2 and repeat for a few minutes.

1. North, south, east, west can make some new words, such as: southeast, what are they? Are the orders of the words different from those of Chinese?

1) 作名词

north（south， east， west）还可以用作副词，意为“向 / 朝北（南、东、西）”。例如：

east, west, south, north还可以组合为合成词，其构成与汉语表达的顺序正好相反：
