1. How would you feel if someone decided to take away your park?Well that's what's happening in my community. There's a park that some people want to turn into a golf course(高尔夫球场).Let me tell you why I think it's a bad idea.
First,a park is meant to be for the whole community. Not everyone likes golf,so not everyone will get to use the course. This isn't fair.A community park should have open spaces for everyone to use.

Third, not all kids are crazy about golf.At the moment, the park has a skating place and a playground. These attract lots of kids from the community. If you turn the park into a golf course, this means these kids will stay at home and turn on a video game rather than get some exercise. It also means that they might be out on the street causing trouble.Wouldn't it be better to give them something to do at the park?
Finally, golf is expensive.Building a golf course and maintaining(维护)it will cost a lot of money.Who is going to pay to maintain the golf course? What about those people who can't afford to join a golf club? That means that the golf course will only be available to people with lots of money.

ID thieves can be creative about getting your information. There are some low﹣tech ways they get it:sometimes they steal rubbish, going through it to find personal information,or they steal mail,
There are high﹣tech ways, too:ID thieves might put software onto your computer secretly. The software, called badware, let a thief see everything on your computer, and record everything you type on your computer. Unluckily, even if you're really careful with your personal information.thieves can still get your personal information.Sometimes, they get into computer systems at shops, schools, hospitals or businesses. They look for personal information to use or sell to other thieves.
It's pretty easy for you and your family to stop a thief stealing your identity. You can start with the low﹣tech defenses (防御).Be careful with your mail and rubbish. And be sure to take care of your wallet,or your backpack. It's especially important not to carry your Social Security card with you.Keep it in a safe place at home.
Practice some higher﹣tech defenses, too:protect your computer by turning on an up﹣to﹣date firewall (防火墙).Once you're online,be careful with your personal information. When you get emails or pop﹣ups on your computer, don't respond automatically (自动响应).Stop and think before you click﹣﹣it could help keep your information private, and keep badware off your computer.

②CR450 can go very fast, with an average(平均的) speed of 400km/h and a top speed of 453 km/h.Before this, the fastest high﹣speed train in a rail network in the world is China's CR400,which runs at 350km/h on average.Once put into use,for example, the CR450 will shorten the travel time from Beijing to Shanghai to just about two and a half hours, which takes at least four and a half hours at the moment.
③"The key is not to make the train run fast but to have it brake(刹车) accurately and steadily(平稳地),"Zhao Hongwei of the China Academy of Railway Sciences told CCTV News.It travels a lot faster, but the standard is that the CR450 should have the same brake distance(距离)as the CR400,which is 6,500 meters. It can also start braking more quickly, taking just 1.7 seconds compared to the 2.3 seconds needed for the CR400.
④Engineers tested the brakes a lot to make sure they work well.In the tests, the brake disc(制动盘) got really hot, reaching temperatures of up to 700 C.Its color changed from black to red.The changes were then recorded. All the data were saved in a smart system to make a digital model of the brake system.
⑤Besides having a faster speed and better braking,system,CR450 is also lighter and uses less energy than CR400,according to CCTV News. This means that the CR450 uses less fuel or power to run, which is good for the environment because it reduces pollution. And a lighter train also needs less energy to move,so it can travel farther on the same amount of fuel.
⑥With all these advantages, people are very excited to see this new train and experience its speed and comfort.China's high﹣speed train network is truly impressive, and the CR450 is just another example of its greatness!
(1)How much faster the CR450 is on average compared to the CR400?

②As we all know, the reason for this is global (全球的) warming. When certain gas such as carbon dioxide (CO2) is largely emitted (排放) into the air,it causes the greenhouse effect (效应) which makes Earth warmer.
③As Earth becomes warmer, glaciers melt quickly, and dark rocks are uncovered. Then these rocks take in more heat, causing the temperature to rise.As a result, the remaining snow on glaciers melts faster.
④Global warming will have a bad influence. While the melting of glaciers may bring floods in some areas of Earth,in other places,it is making water disappear.More and more heat waves and droughts (干旱) will also change the face of the world in the future.
⑤Global warming is a real problem, and one largely caused by human activity.Solving the problem is not easy, and there is no magic way. However,we can begin it by reducing CO2 in our daily lives.
⑥Peter Miller, along with his wife, took part in a scientific test to see how much CO2 they could cut down in a month. The average (平均) U.S.family produces about 80 kilos of CO2,which was more than twice the European average and almost five times the global average.Their final goal was to make less CO2 than most American families.
⑦First,they found out how much CO2 they were making. Then they asked an environmentalist for advice.According to the advice, they changed their house, their lights, and some of their living habits. At the same time, they either biked, walked,or used public transportation.A month later, they saved 70% on electricity than before,40% on gas,and drove half as much as others.Their daily CO2 emissions were less than the U.S.average,at 32 kilos.

Wow,that sounds interesting," you think. However,as you look through the book and scan the pages, you discover it is not a book about the horse, but the train. You sure are glad you scanned the book first before checking it out!
Skimming is a similar skill to scanning. It is also done quickly. You skim material looking for specific information. You do not read all the material. You have in your mind what information you are looking for before you read. Then you skim the material just for that information. In skimming, you look at titles, subheads (小标题) ,and words in italics and boldface. These words may give you clues to where you can find the information you need.
For example,if you are looking for some information on Marco Polo's journeys and, specifically, the dates of his journeys, you would first skim the titles and subheads to see if there is information on Marco Polo.Finding a section (部分) on Marco Polo, you would skim to find the subhead on his journeys. Then you would skim this section looking for a date.

5. ①The world's highest ski place,Chacaltaya, was closed after the 18,000﹣year﹣old glacier melted (冰川融化) in 2009.Many scientists agree that the glaciers around the world could disappear in this century, much faster than we thought.
⑧Protecting our earth starts small:change a light,open a window,walk or bike.With a little effort,and not much money,most of us can make a difference.
(1)What does the writer think of global warming? B
A.Impossible.
B.Serious.
C.Meaningless.

9. Scanning and skimming(泛读和跳读) are two skills you use with speed. They can help you find information fast.
Scanning is a skill good readers use to find out if the material is what they want or need to read. When you scan, you do not read all the material .You only read a little bit here and there to give you an idea of what the material is about.
For example, you may be interested in horses and find a book in the library called The Great Iron Horse." Wow,that sounds interesting," you think.
(1)What is The Great Iron Horse about? C
A.The library.
B.The horse.
C.The train.

For example, you may be interested in horses and find a book in the library called The Great Iron Horse." Wow,that sounds interesting," you think. However,as you look through the book and scan the pages, you discover it is not a book about the horse, but the train.(例如,你可能对马感兴趣,在图书馆里找到一本叫《大铁马》的书。"
In skimming, you look at titles, subheads (小标题) ,and words in italics and boldface. These words may give you clues to where you can find the information you need.(在略读中,你看标题、副标题和斜体字和黑体字。
For example,if you are looking for some information on Marco Polo's journeys and, specifically, the dates of his journeys, you would first skim the titles and subheads to see if there is information on Marco Polo.Finding a section (部分) on Marco Polo, you would skim to find the subhead on his journeys. Then you would skim this section looking for a date.(例如,如果你正在寻找一些关于马可波罗旅行的信息,特别是他旅行的日期,你会首先浏览标题和副标题,看看是否有关于马可波罗的信息。
根据第一段Scanning and skimming(泛读和跳读) are two skills you use with speed. They can help you find information fast.(泛读和跳读是你快速使用的两个技能。
根据第一段Scanning and skimming(泛读和跳读) are two skills you use with speed. They can help you find information fast.(泛读和跳读是你快速使用的两个技能。

10.Most people have a favorite color, but how people feel about colors depends on their culture. This can be very important to people in business that sell products all over the world. They might choose a color because they think it is exciting or attractive, but in another country that same color could be used to give a sad message.Look at these examples:
If you ask someone in Britain what the right color is for a bride to wear, the answer will be white. In China and other eastern countries, brides often wear red because the color red is a sign of good luck, happiness and prosperity(繁荣).______ In Britain, red is used as a sign of danger.Road signs and warning labels (标签) are often in red.In eastern cultures, the color red does not mean you have to be careful.
In Egypt, yellow is the color linked to death. In Britain and other western cultures, death and funerals(葬礼) are usually linked to the color black, but in many eastern countries white is the color most people connect with death and funerals.
Many people like the color orange because it is bright and exciting. Some advertisers will not use orange in their advertisements because they believe it suggests that the products are cheap and perhaps not of good quality.
