I used to dislike PE lessons as a teenager. I was not very good at sports, and I hated team sports 26 I always felt like I was disappointing the rest of the team. During these years, I sometimes felt disconnected from my body like only my brain was “me” and my 27 was just a vehicle (运载工具) for carrying my brain around.
When I started university, I decided to try a kung fu club. To my 28 , I loved it! In my first year, most of us were beginners. I used to go two or three times a week. Because it is not a team sport, I didn’t feel 29 about not being very good. And because it is a combat (格斗) sport, you train in 30 , which means that you get to meet people and talk to them. I also appreciated (欣赏) that the classes not only 31 improving my kung fu skills, 32 aimed to transform my body through exercise. When I was doing kung fu, my body changed—I got 33 and quicker, but the changes were a side effect of the sport, instead of the goal.
34 I moved to Italy this year, I decided to start doing a combat sport 35 . I joined a local kung fu club and I loved it. We did lots of sparring (拳击). I think that sparring is like chess, but much faster and much more fun! If your sparring partner tries to 36 you hard with his fist, you have to move quickly to 37 him, block or even catch his arm and then hit him 38 .
When I was a teenager, I would say I just wasn’t a sporty person and that I just didn’t like sport and never would. Now I think that everyone should try as 39 sports as possible because I believe there is something out there for everyone! I feel connected to my body and I am 40 and have more energy when I have been doing sport.

I have spent much time and effort improving myself. In high school and college, many times I stayed up all night working on my study. The important learning allowed me to travel to different places and to get great jobs. Like some other people, I focused only on 156 for a long period.
When I first started working after college, an older friend told me, “When you meet friends from college later in life, 157 cares what kind of career (事业) you have had. They will mainly talk about who looks fitter and healthier.”
I found it was true. And over time, I came to realize that my friend’s words had a (an) 158 meaning. The things with the most 159 in our lives often don’t have much to do with our academic (学业的) or career success. What has made me feel happy with my life is always physical activity, such as 160 , lifting weights and hiking. They seem simple enough, but you do have to learn how to do them safely, 161 when you want to take them seriously. Cooking with friends, making handicrafts (手工艺品) and growing plants can also improve how you feel about your life.
These kinds of skills 162 much on your way to be independent. If you live all alone someday, you must know how to cook for yourself, darn (织补) your clothes and tidy up your house. And you must not forget to get enough 163 to keep fit. Now your parents may 164 you and help you with these things, but you can’t 165 them forever for a healthy and happy life.
So here’s my advice: continue the hard but necessary work for you to achieve academic success. But always make time to add to your toolbox of life by taking part in sports, cooking, craft and many other non- academic activities.
