For many years, Croatian-American recording artist Nenad Bach toured the world performing with famous musicians like Bono and Pavarotti.Everything came to a stop in 2010, however, when Nenad was diagnosed (诊断) with Parkinson’s disease — a progressive disease that affects a person’s movement.
“I love music,” he said.“When I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2010, I didn’t know what it was.Five years later, I couldn’t even play the guitar.”
One day, a friend of Nenad’s asked him to play ping-pong with him, and Nenad said yes.The effects were immediate and positive: he woke up the next day filled with a “desire to live”, and his physical and mental issues had improved.Encouraged, he kept playing.
“Playing ping-pong to me means freedom.Free of past.Free of future,” Nenad explained.“Once you see the moving ball in the air, you don’t think about anything else.”
For months he told everyone around him about how ping-pong was helping his Parkinson’s, but his praise fell on deaf ears. Finally, he took matters into his own hands and started hosting Ping Pong

PPP hopes to encourage people living with Parkinson’s to play ping-pong for its benefits. In addition to promoting social connectivity, PPP also says that it increases neuroplasticity (神经可塑性) which creates new neural pathways in the brain.Nenad has seen evidence of this with his own eyes many times in the past years. He said that their “facial expression changes from when they arrive until they leave. In addition, some people start walking again.”

Tai chi, a centuries-old Chinese martial art and an internationally popular form of exercise, has been added to the cultural heritage list of the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
As its initial (最初的) application was turned down in 2008, for more than 10 years, China has been trying to have tai chi — also known as taijiquan — recognised officially by the UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. At the time, judges told China it had applied for too many listings for tai chi to be considered for a place.China was told to reduce its applications for listings, which included tai chi, Shaolin kung fu, Peking Opera and acupuncture.

A beginner’s guide to exercise
You want to start doing exercise?Congratulations①! You have just taken your first step towards a new and improved you!
Understanding the benefits of exercise
Most people assume② that regular exercise does wonders③ for the body and mind—but what exactly are its health benefits? To start with, physical activity increases the efficiency of your heart and lungs④.During exercise, your heart and lungs must work harder. This extra effort makes them grow stronger over the long term⑤.[1]It has also been proven that active people tend⑥ to have better immune⑦ systems and are at lower risk of diseases⑧ . Moreover, exercise is good for your mental health. [2]Working out can help you reduce⑨ stress and get over⑩ negative feelings.[3]Some studies even show that exercise improves certain brain functions, meaning you could actually exercise your way to better performance at school!
[3]that引导宾语从句;meaning you ...
Planning your exercise routine
[4]When you plan an exercise routine, the first thing to consider is what you expect to improve: heart and lung efficiency, muscle strength or flexibility.Aerobic activities, like jogging , swimming and skiing, develop your heart and lungs.Strength training, such as pull-ups and weightlifting, increases muscle strength and encourages bone development.Flexibility training, including gymnastic and tai chi ,
helps stretch your muscles and improve your body’s range of movement .These types of exercise all play a role in a healthy routine.[5]Above all, choose activities you enjoy because, in this way, you’re more likely to stick with them.
[4]句中When引导时间状语从句;动词不定式to consider作后置定语,修饰主语the first thing;what引导表语从句。
[5]句中you enjoy是省略了关系代词that/which的定语从句,修饰先行词activities;because引导原因状语从句。
Eating and drinking right
Like cars that run on petrol , your body burns carbohydrates for energy .Foods like noodles, rice, fruit and vegetables give your body plenty of carbohydrates to keep up your energy during a long workout. To help your muscles recover and repair themselves after exercise, you need to eat foods rich in protein, such as fish, eggs and milk products.[6]When to eat is also of great importance. In general, you should have your meal an average of 1.5 to 2.5 hours before exercising.Do not eat immediately after exercise; instead, wait at least 30 minutes after a typical routine, or as much as an hour after a hard workout.[7]Remember to drink throughout exercise to make up for water lost to sweat.
[6]“疑问词+动词不定式(When to eat)”作主语,谓语动词用单数形式;be of great importance相当于be very important。
[7]动词不定式短语to drink ...sweat作宾语;其中动词不定式to make up for water lost to sweat作目的状语;动词-ed短语lost to sweat作后置定语,修饰water,相当于which is lost to sweat。
Avoiding injury
[8]To prevent soft tissue injury, make sure that you wear proper clothes and equipment when exercising. You should also start small and slowly work your way to a longer and harder exercise routine to avoid getting hurt. Finally, remember to warm up before exercising and stretch at the end of your workout.
[8]动词不定式短语To prevent soft tissue injury作目的状语;that引导宾语从句;when exercising是状语从句的省略,相当于when you are exercising。
So, now you know the benefits of exercise and how to do it safely and effectively. What are you waiting for?

For many years, Croatian-American recording artist Nenad Bach
toured the world performing with famous musicians like Bono and
Pavarotti.Everything came to a stop in 2010, however, when Nenad
was diagnosed (诊断) with Parkinson’s disease — a progressive
disease that affects a person’s movement.
“I love music,” he said.“When I was diagnosed with
Parkinson’s in 2010, I didn’t know what it was.Five years later, I
couldn’t even play the guitar.”
One day, a friend of Nenad’s asked him to play ping-pong with
him, and Nenad said yes.The effects were immediate and positive: he
woke up the next day filled with a “desire to live”, and his physical
and mental issues had improved.Encouraged, he kept playing.
“Playing ping-pong to me means freedom.Free of past.Free of
future,” Nenad explained.“Once you see the moving ball in the air,
you don’t think about anything else.”
For months he told everyone around him about how ping-pong was
helping his Parkinson’s, but his praise fell on deaf ears. Finally, he
took matters into his own hands and started hosting Ping Pong
Parkinson’s events at the Westchester Table Tennis Center in
Pleasantville, New York.Once the events attracted enough attention, he
started an organization called Ping Pong Parkinson (PPP) in March
2017.
PPP hopes to encourage people living with Parkinson’s to play ping-
pong for its benefits. In addition to promoting social connectivity, PPP
also says that it increases neuroplasticity (神经可塑性) which creates
new neural pathways in the brain.Nenad has seen evidence of this with his
own eyes many times in the past years. He said that their “facial
expression changes from when they arrive until they leave. In addition,
some people start walking again.”
Nenad has made spreading the word about the power of ping-pong his
new life’s work!He hopes others will take up the sport and see the same
improvements he’s enjoyed since the first time he picked up a paddle

Tai chi, a centuries-old Chinese martial art and an internationally
popular form of exercise, has been added to the cultural heritage list of
the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural

Chinese people practise it every day in city parks. Each year, tens of
thousands of people from other countries come to China to learn it.Gisele
Bundchen, one of the highest-paid models in the world, makes tai chi

么。
Failure makes us rethink, reconsider, and find new
ways and strategies to achieve our goals.Through failure, we will get to
know ourselves better.
