Almost thirty bicyclists are on a journey from California to North Carolina.Along the way, they’re in search of community service housing projects. One of their recent stops was in Orem, Utah where they met Christian Huff and his dad, Ken Huff.Their roof was in such poor condition that when it rained, a lot of water would leak (渗漏) inside.
In addition to the Bicycle Adventurers, neighbour Jack Coomer also showed up.He lives across the street and helps the Huff family when he can.“It’s good to know there are people out there that care,”Jack said.“They don’t even know him. They show up;they help out. It’s great.”With about thirty volunteers working on the Huffs’ home, they were able to get the place looking new in no time!
Both Ken and Christian were completely blown away by the results of these volunteers’ hard work.“You just start wondering,‘Is there anything left that’s good?’ And then you see this,” Christian said.“This just strengthens my faith in the community, my faith in people, that there is still good in this world.”
“We believe everybody deserves a comfortable place to live,”Ann Coleman, a board member of Salt Lake and Utah County Fuller Center for Housing said.“And how do we make that happen?By bringing the community together and giving a helping hand.We help them know that they are loved and seen, and encourage them. It’s truly great to see the positive impact we can have on the world when we work together.”

Chad Nelson’s five-minute animated film (动画片), called Critterz, was shown online this week and introduces viewers to furry creatures that live in an imaginary jungle. It’s an early example showing the possibilities and dangers of using artificial intelligence (AI) in film-making, a development that both excites and worries Hollywood.
Nelson, an independent visual artist, didn’t use AI for the whole production. He wrote the script himself, and invited actors to record the audio and animators to bring the creatures to life.It would normally take a large group of members six full months to create the kinds of high-quality images in Critterz, Nelson said. But using OpenAI’s DALL·E, the process went much faster, only one week.
Independent film-makers and Hollywood studios have been early users of AI tools, which can create texts, images and videos based on plenty of data. These increasingly advanced products can save time and resources, their supporters say.
But the appearance of these tools is causing trepidation.A recent report said AI could have a great influence on the global economy and subject 300 million jobs to automation (自动化).Actors, such as Keanu Reeves, are raising alarm bells, saying the rise of generative AI (such as DALL·E and ChatGPT) is “scary” and could be a way for managers not to pay artists fairly.
Many Hollywood studios see this technology as a way to cut costs when making movies.Greg Brockman, the president and co-founder of OpenAI, which makes ChatGPT, has argued that AI will improve cinema, allowing people to have interactive (互动的) experiences with art.He gave the example of the ending of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Nelson said, “It’s likely that AI will replace some jobs in Hollywood while also potentially creating more.”He mentioned the appearance of computer-editing software, and how that replaced more traditional movie-editing jobs and processes.
28.What do we know about the film Critterz?( )
A.It was produced by HBO. B.It is the first film to use AI.
C.Its images took seven days to make. D.Its script was completely created by AI.
29.What does the underlined word “trepidation” in Paragraph 4 mean?( )
A.Concern. B.Justice.
C.Curiosity. D.Excitement.
30.Why is “Game of Thrones” mentioned in Paragraph 5?( )
A.To explain the functions of AI. B.To show the trouble caused by AI.
C.To introduce the company OpenAI. D.To praise the advantages of using AI.
31.What did Nelson think of using AI in film-making?( )
A.It may open up new job opportunities. B.It may improve people’s job performance.
C.It may change the development of the computer. D.It may inspire Hollywood to create more movies.

When photographer Johan Bavman became a father for the first time, he took more than a passing interest in why Sweden is considered the most generous nation on Earth for parental leave.
He took parental leave, enjoying the happiness of being a father.Later he used his photography to document the real-life experiences of other fathers taking full advantage of the policy, which allows mothers and fathers to take long leaves from their careers so they can care for their newborns.
Sweden offers parents a total of 480 days of paid parental leave. To encourage both parents to actively raise their children, Sweden has also required that 60 of the 480 days be “daddy months”.If the 60 daddy days aren’t used, they are lost, reducing the maximum leave to 420 days. The country also provides a “gender equality bonus (性别平等奖金)”:the more the leave is shared between the parents, the larger the bonus they receive.
In reality, only 12% of Swedish couples equally share the 480 days of leave, as Bavman noted, with women continuing to lead the way as the stay-at-home parent and men as the careerist.
Still, Bavman thought about how the policy influences those men who do make full use of their parental leave. At first, Bavman had difficulty finding such men.But among the fathers he did find and photograph, he took realistic photos that showed their dedication (奉献).
“While I was talking to these dads, I realized that they were deeply aware of how important it is to connect with their children,”said Bavman.“I didn’t want to bring out fathers as superdads.I wanted to bring out these role models which people can connect to.I wanted dads who could also show their tiredness, which comes with being at home with their children. It’s a hard full-time job.”
“The fathers have become more understanding of their wives and even their own mothers,”Bavman continued.“Some are now considering a career change to accommodate (适应) their parenthood.Being home for months, they get time to think about their lives.”
Bavman is looking for a total of 60 fathers to photograph for an exhibition and a book.So far he’s found 35 worthy of his photos.
32.What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us about Sweden’s parental leave?( )
A.The reason it is carried out. B.The process of its development.
C.Its great advantages. D.Its main characteristics.
33.What is a reality in Sweden according to Bavman?( )
A.Fathers often disagree with mothers on childcare.
B.A small number of fathers make full use of parental leave.
C.Many fathers don’t accept the gender equality bonus.
D.A high percentage of fathers find it difficult to raise babies.
34.Why did Bavman photograph the fathers?( )
A.To stress the importance of childcare. B.To explore methods of raising babies.
C.To find examples of good fathers. D.To help improve father-son relationships.
35.What is a change in the fathers photographed by Bavman?( )
A.They have realized it is challenging to be mothers.
B.They have developed a stronger liking for children.
C.They have never mentioned they are tired of childcare.
D.They have started considering being stay-at-home fathers.

  阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Roberta waited for the bus door to open.It was hot, and she was tired from playing basketball all afternoon. All she wanted was to go home and rest.As the bus came to her station, Roberta noticed that the man to her left was also preparing to leave.Just before the door opened, they both moved their bodies forward, trying to exit at the same time. But there was only enough space for one person to step onto the station at a time.
When the door finally opened, Roberta thought to herself, “I’m not in such a hurry to compete with others. Some people on the bus are always so pushy, and I want to be different.I’ll be one of the few nice and polite bus riders.” So she stopped and let the man go first.
But the man didn’t move.It seemed he was being polite, too! They both stood there for a second without walking.Roberta looked over to him, and noticed the man was looking at her.He looked very pale.He made a hand gesture (手势), as if to say, “No, you go first.”
Roberta didn’t think much about whether he was ill.She simply remembered that she could leave the bus.If this man wanted to keep being polite, that was fine; she was looking forward to getting off earlier. She lifted her foot, preparing to take the first step, but before she could put it back down, the man started to leave! All of a sudden, just when Roberta wanted to go, he did too!
However, that wasn’t the end of the story.Roberta watched the man stagger and stumble (踉踉跄跄).He fell to the ground as he moved toward the door, ending up on his knees, his head in his arms.He had lost consciousness (知觉).
Realizing that something bad had happened, Roberta became very nervous and didn’t know what to do.She called out, “Help!”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Roberta’s cry for help caught the attention of other passengers nearby.

Roberta felt a wave of relief as she saw the man was okay.

(Text 1)
W:Mr White, I need your help. I can’t understand this maths problem.
M:It’s not difficult, Linda. I’ll be happy to explain it to you.
(Text 2)
M:After two weeks of tennis lessons, I think I’ve finally managed to improve my game.
W:Like my mom says, “Practice makes perfect.”
(Text 3)
W:You know so much about old movies. I’ll bet you saw a lot of movies when you were a kid.
M:Not as many as you might think.
(Text 4)
W:Look at this picture, Peter.
M:That’s a nice picture, Ann. Who painted it?
W:I painted it myself. Nobody helped me.
M:Oh, you are a great artist!
(Text 5)
W:There are still so many things to do to prepare for the festival, such as shopping and cleaning.
M:I will help you after I finish my homework.
W:OK. I will go shopping, and then we can work on cleaning the house together.
M:Good idea!
(Text 6)
M:Do you have any tables?
W:Yes, we’ve got plenty of tables in stock. Take a look at this one.
M:It’s a nice color, and the style is not too bad, but it is a bit too small.
W:How about this one?
M:Mm.I like it. How much is it?
W:70 dollars.
M:OK. Here is the money. Could you deliver it to my house?
W:Of course. We are always at your service.
M:Here is my business card. Thanks.
W:You are welcome.
(Text 7)
M:Hi, Jane.
W:Hi! How are you doing?
M:Oh, not bad. Hey, I was just wondering whether you’d like to go swimming with me this Saturday afternoon.
W:Oh, I’d like to, but I’m afraid I can’t. I have to attend a meeting.
M:Oh, that’s too bad.
W:But I’m free in the evening.
M:Would you like to go out and dance?
W:That’s a good idea.
M:Great! What about going somewhere for dinner first?
W:Why not? Where shall I meet you?
M:Why not let me pick you up at your house?
W:OK. What time?
M:Seven o’clock. OK?
W:Fine. Well, see you then.
(Text 8)
W:Hi, Tom. Did you have a nice holiday?
M:Yes, couldn’t have been better. Thank you.
W:Where did you go during the holidays?
M:I went to Scotland.
W:Did you go there alone?
M:No. I went there with my parents. We travelled around in Scotland. We spent a week in Edinburgh, and then went to St.Andrews.
W:I heard that the highlands area is a very good place to see. Did you go up there?
M:No. We stayed at a hotel for a few days and came back to London.
W:How was the weather when you were there?
M:Quite good. And everybody was very kind. People aren’t in such a hurry up there, you know.
W:You must have enjoyed your holidays.
M:I sure did.
(Text 9)
W:You know, Paul, I really like my neighbourhood, but I’ve got a new job far from there, so I’m going to have to move here.
M:It’ll be OK. You’ll find a nice place here.
W:I’m not so sure. The area I’m in now is a great place to live. It’s got a lot of good shops, and the people are very friendly. It’s got some excellent cafés, too.
M:Any good restaurants?
W:There is a restaurant, but it’s terrible. I never eat there. The best thing is the sports center near my apartment.
M:Oh. I didn’t know you like sports.
W:Yeah. I play table tennis there. One bad thing is all the cars. Everybody uses the big car park next to the sports center. So the roads around here have too many cars on them. Another problem is that there isn’t a cinema. It’s not a big problem because there are good buses, so I can go to the cinema in the city center.
M:Well, I know you like this neighbourhood, but I’m sure you’ll find a good place near your new job. Don’t worry!
(Text 10)
The most wonderful experience I’ve ever had was a trip I took to China a few years ago. I really can’t describe it. We spent three weeks travelling around China. We visited Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an and several other places. It really was the most unusual holiday I’ve ever had. You know, the further we travelled into the center of China, the more I liked it, meeting people who’d never seen foreign tourists before. Then we spent our last week in Hong Kong, which I think is very different from Beijing. It’s the noisiest and busiest place I’ve ever seen. We didn’t find Hong Kong very relaxing at all. And the other problem was the people on tour with us — they were so unfriendly. Anyway, the trip itself was interesting. I can’t wait to do it again!

Roberta felt a wave of relief as she saw the man was okay. She forgot her tiredness. She helped the man get off the bus, and sat him on a bench at the bus station. After making sure he was completely all right, she said goodbye to him and went home.Through the experience, Roberta realized how important it is to help others in a busy world. From that day on, she made a promise to herself to always be considerate and lend a hand to those in need.

(Text 1)
W:Mr White, I need your help. I can’t understand this maths
problem.
M:It’s not difficult, Linda. I’ll be happy to explain it to you.
(Text 2)
M:After two weeks of tennis lessons, I think I’ve finally managed to
improve my game.
W:Like my mom says, “Practice makes perfect.”
(Text 3)
W:You know so much about old movies. I’ll bet you saw a lot of
movies when you were a kid.
M:Not as many as you might think.
(Text 4)
W:Look at this picture, Peter.
M:That’s a nice picture, Ann. Who painted it?
W:I painted it myself. Nobody helped me.
M:Oh, you are a great artist!
(Text 5)
W:There are still so many things to do to prepare for the festival, such
as shopping and cleaning.
M:I will help you after I finish my homework.
W:OK. I will go shopping, and then we can work on cleaning the
house together.
M:Good idea!
(Text 6)
M:Do you have any tables?
W:Yes, we’ve got plenty of tables in stock. Take a look at this one.
M:It’s a nice color, and the style is not too bad, but it is a bit too
small.
W:How about this one?
M:Mm.I like it. How much is it?
W:70 dollars.
M:OK. Here is the money. Could you deliver it to my house?
W:Of course. We are always at your service.
M:Here is my business card. Thanks.
W:You are welcome.
(Text 7)
M:Hi, Jane.
W:Hi! How are you doing?
M:Oh, not bad. Hey, I was just wondering whether you’d like to go
swimming with me this Saturday afternoon.
W:Oh, I’d like to, but I’m afraid I can’t. I have to attend a
meeting.
Did you go
up there?
M:No. We stayed at a hotel for a few days and came back to London.
W:How was the weather when you were there?
M:Quite good. And everybody was very kind. People aren’t in such a
hurry up there, you know.
W:You must have enjoyed your holidays.
M:I sure did.
(Text 9)
W:You know, Paul, I really like my neighbourhood, but I’ve got a
new job far from there, so I’m going to have to move here.
M:It’ll be OK. You’ll find a nice place here.
W:I’m not so sure. The area I’m in now is a great place to live. It’s
got a lot of good shops, and the people are very friendly. It’s got some
excellent cafés, too.
M:Any good restaurants?
W:There is a restaurant, but it’s terrible. I never eat there. The best
thing is the sports center near my apartment.
M:Oh. I didn’t know you like sports.
W:Yeah. I play table tennis there. One bad thing is all the cars.
Everybody uses the big car park next to the sports center. So the roads
around here have too many cars on them. Another problem is that there
isn’t a cinema. It’s not a big problem because there are good buses,
so I can go to the cinema in the city center.
M:Well, I know you like this neighbourhood, but I’m sure you’ll
find a good place near your new job. Don’t worry!
(Text 10)
The most wonderful experience I’ve ever had was a trip I took to
China a few years ago. I really can’t describe it. We spent three weeks
travelling around China. We visited Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an and
several other places. It really was the most unusual holiday I’ve ever
had. You know, the further we travelled into the center of China, the
more I liked it, meeting people who’d never seen foreign tourists
before.
Then we spent our last week in Hong Kong, which I think is very
different from Beijing. It’s the noisiest and busiest place I’ve ever seen.
We didn’t find Hong Kong very relaxing at all. And the other problem
was the people on tour with us — they were so unfriendly. Anyway, the
trip itself was interesting. I can’t wait to do it again!

With people all across the world in need of better housing, the Fuller
Center is on a mission to provide enough shelter. They have local partners
in several countries, including many cities in the United States.Still, it
can be difficult to help as many people as they’d like — that’s where
the Bicycle Adventurers come in.
Almost thirty bicyclists are on a journey from California to North
Carolina.Along the way, they’re in search of community service
housing projects. One of their recent stops was in Orem, Utah where they
met Christian Huff and his dad, Ken Huff.Their roof was in such poor
condition that when it rained, a lot of water would leak (渗漏) inside.
In addition to the Bicycle Adventurers, neighbour Jack Coomer also
showed up.He lives across the street and helps the Huff family when he
can.“It’s good to know there are people out there that care,”Jack
said.“They don’t even know him.They show up;they help out.It’s
great.”With about thirty volunteers working on the Huffs’ home, they
were able to get the place looking new in no time!
Both Ken and Christian were completely blown away by the results
of these volunteers’ hard work.“You just start wondering,‘Is there
anything left that’s good?’ And then you see this,” Christian
said.“This just strengthens my faith in the community, my faith in
people, that there is still good in this world.”
“We believe everybody deserves a comfortable place to live,”Ann
Coleman, a board member of Salt Lake and Utah County Fuller Center
for Housing said.“And how do we make that happen?By bringing the
community together and giving a helping hand.We help them know that
they are loved and seen, and encourage them. It’s truly great to see the

Chad Nelson’s five-minute animated film (动画片), called
Critterz, was shown online this week and introduces viewers to furry
creatures that live in an imaginary jungle. It’s an early example showing
the possibilities and dangers of using artificial intelligence (AI) in film-
making, a development that both excites and worries Hollywood.
Nelson, an independent visual artist, didn’t use AI for the whole
production. He wrote the script himself, and invited actors to record the
audio and animators to bring the creatures to life.It would normally take a
large group of members six full months to create the kinds of high-quality
images in Critterz, Nelson said. But using OpenAI’s DALL·E, the
process went much faster, only one week.
Independent film-makers and Hollywood studios have been early
users of AI tools, which can create texts, images and videos based on
plenty of data. These increasingly advanced products can save time and
resources, their supporters say.
But the appearance of these tools is causing trepidation.A recent
report said AI could have a great influence on the global economy and
subject 300 million jobs to automation (自动化).Actors, such as
Keanu Reeves, are raising alarm bells, saying the rise of generative AI
(such as DALL·E and ChatGPT) is “scary” and could be a way for
managers not to pay artists fairly.
Many Hollywood studios see this technology as a way to cut costs
when making movies.Greg Brockman, the president and co-founder of
OpenAI, which makes ChatGPT, has argued that AI will improve
cinema, allowing people to have interactive (互动的) experiences
with art.He gave the example of the ending of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Nelson said, “It’s likely that AI will replace some jobs in
Hollywood while also potentially creating more.”He mentioned the
appearance of computer-editing software, and how that replaced more
traditional movie-editing jobs and processes.

When photographer Johan Bavman became a father for the first
time, he took more than a passing interest in why Sweden is considered
the most generous nation on Earth for parental leave.
He took parental leave, enjoying the happiness of being a
father.Later he used his photography to document the real-life experiences
of other fathers taking full advantage of the policy, which allows mothers
and fathers to take long leaves from their careers so they can care for their
newborns.
Sweden offers parents a total of 480 days of paid parental leave. To
encourage both parents to actively raise their children, Sweden has also
required that 60 of the 480 days be “daddy months”.If the 60 daddy
days aren’t used, they are lost, reducing the maximum leave to 420
days. The country also provides a “gender equality bonus (性别平等奖
金)”:the more the leave is shared between the parents, the larger the
bonus they receive.
In reality, only 12% of Swedish couples equally share the 480 days
of leave, as Bavman noted, with women continuing to lead the way as
the stay-at-home parent and men as the careerist.
Still, Bavman thought about how the policy influences those men
who do make full use of their parental leave. At first, Bavman had
difficulty finding such men.But among the fathers he did find and
photograph, he took realistic photos that showed their dedication (奉
献).
“While I was talking to these dads, I realized that they were deeply
aware of how important it is to connect with their children,”said
Bavman.“I didn’t want to bring out fathers as superdads.I wanted to
bring out these role models which people can connect to.I wanted dads
who could also show their tiredness, which comes with being at home
with their children.It’s a hard full-time job.”
“The fathers have become more understanding of their wives and
even their own mothers,”Bavman continued.“Some are now
considering a career change to accommodate (适应) their
parenthood.Being home for months, they get time to think about their
lives.”
Bavman is looking for a total of 60 fathers to photograph for an
exhibition and a book.So far he’s found 35 worthy of his photos.

第二节(满分25分)
  阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构
成一篇完整的短文。
Roberta waited for the bus door to open.It was hot, and she was
tired from playing basketball all afternoon. All she wanted was to go home
and rest.As the bus came to her station, Roberta noticed that the man to
her left was also preparing to leave.Just before the door opened, they
both moved their bodies forward, trying to exit at the same time. But
there was only enough space for one person to step onto the station at a
time.
When the door finally opened, Roberta thought to herself, “I’m
not in such a hurry to compete with others. Some people on the bus are
always so pushy, and I want to be different.I’ll be one of the few nice
and polite bus riders.” So she stopped and let the man go first.
But the man didn’t move.It seemed he was being polite, too!
They both stood there for a second without walking.Roberta looked over
to him, and noticed the man was looking at her.He looked very pale.He
made a hand gesture (手势), as if to say, “No, you go first.”
Roberta didn’t think much about whether he was ill.She simply
remembered that she could leave the bus.If this man wanted to keep being
polite, that was fine; she was looking forward to getting off earlier. She
lifted her foot, preparing to take the first step, but before she could put
it back down, the man started to leave! All of a sudden, just when
Roberta wanted to go, he did too!
However, that wasn’t the end of the story.Roberta watched the
man stagger and stumble (踉踉跄跄).He fell to the ground as he
moved toward the door, ending up on his knees, his head in his
arms.He had lost consciousness (知觉).
Realizing that something bad had happened, Roberta became very
nervous and didn’t know what to do.She called out, “Help!”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式作答。
Roberta’s cry for help caught the attention of other passengers
nearby.
Roberta felt a wave of relief as she saw the man was
okay.
参考范文:
Roberta’s cry for help caught the attention of other passengers
nearby.People rushed over to help the man.Worried voices filled the air as
the bus driver called for emergency services.Roberta sat beside the man,
her concern growing with each passing moment.Within minutes, doctors
arrived and began examining the man. They carefully looked after him,
providing immediate medical attention.Roberta stayed by his side,
offering whatever support she could. As the man recovered
consciousness, he weakly expressed his thanks to Roberta and the others
who had come to help him.
Roberta felt a wave of relief as she saw the man was okay. She forgot
her tiredness. She helped the man get off the bus, and sat him on a bench
at the bus station. After making sure he was completely all right, she said
goodbye to him and went home.Through the experience, Roberta
realized how important it is to help others in a busy world. From that day
on, she made a promise to herself to always be considerate and lend a
hand to those in need.
