Diarra Boubacar, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioner (从业者) from Mali, Africa, is the first foreign doctor in China to earn a doctoral degree in TCM. His journey began in the 1980s when he chose to study in China, impressed by Chinese doctors using acupuncture (针灸) to treat polio (小儿麻痹症) in Mali. After experiencing TCM's effectiveness during a severe cold, he switched from Western medicine to TCM, earning his doctorate in 1997 from Chengdu University of TCM.
Boubacar faced challenges early in his career. On his first day, a patient questioned his qualifications due to his foreign appearance. To build trust, he reassured patients in the waiting area, eventually winning them over with his expertise. Over three decades, he has treated thousands and trained over 3,000 rural doctors in China. He dreams of promoting TCM globally, especially in Africa, aiming to establish TCM centers combining research, teaching and medical care.
The World Health Organization included TCM in its International Classification of Diseases, and China has developed over 90 international TCM standards. However, experts like Jia Yunfeng note that misinterpretations of TCM's benefits and a lack of communication talent prevent its global reach.
Tim Vukan, a German TCM practitioner, shares Boubacar's mission. After studying martial arts, Vukan became crazy about TCM's holistic approach He overcame language barriers by turning herbal medicine and acupuncture points into songs and writing them on cards. Now, he teaches medical English at Zhejiang Chinese Medical University and runs Wushan TCM, a platform sharing TCM knowledge globally. Vukan believes TCM's focus on prevention and self-care can improve lives worldwide.
Iranian Motahareh Asgari and her husband Meghdad Abdi are also TCM advocates. Asgari, the first English-taught TCM PhD graduate from Shanghai University of TCM, promotes cultural exchanges between China and Iran. Abdi, a tai chi enthusiast, has won competitions in Iran and Shanghai. Together, they represent over 1,000 international students at SHUTCM, contributing to TCM's global expansion.
Through figures like Boubacar, Vukan and Asgari, TCM is becoming a bridge of friendship and cultural exchange, showcasing the timeless wisdom of Chinese medicine to the world.
24. What motivated Diarra Boubacar to change his major to TCM
A. His intense interest in promoting TCM globally.
B. His personal encounter with TCM during an illness.
C. His strong desire to earn a doctoral degree in China.
D. His admiration for Chinese doctors treating polio in Mali.
25. What is mentioned as a challenge to TCM's global expansion
A. Misunderstandings about its benefits. B. Lack of funds for research.
C. High costs of Chinese medicine. D. Limited interest in Asia.
26. How did Tim Vukan overcome language barriers in learning TCM
A. He avoided theoretical studies entirely.
B. He attended intensive language courses.
C. He used creative memorization techniques.
D. He practiced with native Chinese speakers daily.
27. What can be concluded about TCM from the text
A. It is only practiced in China.
B. It has no international standards.
C. It is widely accepted without any barriers.
D. It is gaining global recognition despite challenges.
C
Language models like Claude aren't programmed directly by humans — instead, they're trained on large amounts of data. During that training process, they learn their own strategies to solve problems. These strategies are encoded in the billions of computations a model performs for every word it writes. They are incomprehensible to us, the model's developers. Put simply, we have limited insight into how models do most of the things they do.
Knowing how models like Claude think would allow us to have a better understanding of their abilities, as well as help us ensure that they're doing what we intend them to. We take inspiration from the field of neuroscience (神经科学), which has long studied the messy insides of thinking organisms, and try to build a kind of AI microscope that will let us identify patterns of activity and flows of information. There are limits to what you can learn just by talking to an AI model — after all, humans (even neuroscientists) don't know all the details of how our own brains work. So we look inside.
The researchers conduct two new studies that represent progress on the development of the "microscope", and the application of it to see new "AI biology". In the first study, we extend our prior work locating interpretable concepts ("features") inside a model to link those concepts together into computational "circuits" (电路), revealing parts of the pathway that transforms the words that go into Claude into the words that come out. In the second, we look inside Claude 3.5 Haiku, performing deep studies of simple tasks representative of ten crucial model behaviors.
The studies shed light on a part of what happens when Claude responds to these prompts (提示). Claude sometimes thinks in a conceptual space that is shared between languages, suggesting it has a kind of universal "language of thought". Claude will plan what it will say many words ahead, and write to get to that destination. This is powerful evidence that even though models are trained to output one word at a time, they may think on much longer horizons to do so.
28. What do we know about Claude from paragraph 1
A. Claude's outputs are predictable.
B. Claude learns autonomously from data.
C. Claude can collect large amounts of data.
D. Claude's decisions are easily explainable.
29. Why does the author mention neuroscience in paragraph 2
A. To explore how AI models work. B. To show the limits of AI models.
C. To compare AI with human brains. D. To study how AI is programmed.
30. What can we learn about the studies
A. They measure AI's word-output speed. B. They record AI's rapid development.
C. They reveal AI's inner computations. D. They show AI's practical application.
31. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about
A. Claude's unique thinking mode. B. Claude's training data source.
C. Claude's word processing efficiency. D. Claude's language learning ability.
D
Does it often feel as if the world is getting stupider Data released by the OECD suggests that a fifth of adults do no better in maths and reading than a primary school child. In maths, average scores have risen in a few places over the past ten years, but fallen in almost as many. In literacy (读写能力), a lot more countries have seen scores decline than advance, despite the fact that adults hold more and higher educational qualifications than ever before.
Demographic change offers some explanation — new immigrants often struggle with a new language while the native-born have ageing brains. Basic numeracy (计算能力) and literacy are oddly unfashionable compared with fashionable "soft skills", like generative AI: Overstating the importance of times-tables (乘法表) seems even more boring when talking robots promise to do all the hard work.
Yet a century of technological development has not cut demand for people who are good with numbers or words. Adults who do badly in the OECD's tests earn much less than those who top them. They are also in poorer health, less satisfied with their life, less trusting of others and more likely to feel that they have no voice in politics.
What to do Improving lessons for children is the surest way of creating more capable grownups. England's adults have gradually improved their position in the OECD's rankings, mostly because the youngest ones are scoring better than before. The second task is to modernize outdated systems for educating adults. These give dropouts a second chance; they also serve people who change careers and help immigrants integrate.
In too many places, a craze for universities has cut back on funding and focus on the kinds of lessons that people aged 18 and above could be offered. Degrees are becoming less meaningful: the OECD has found that even some university graduates post numeracy and literacy scores that might embarrass a child. Meanwhile, those adults who want to return to class without beginning with long, expensive university courses often find good alternatives are lacking. Faster actions to fix all these problems seem like a bright idea.
32. What does the data released by the OECD show
A. Adults may be less literate than before.
B. The majority of adults are well-educated.
C. Children can have easier access to education.
D. Adults find numeracy and literacy less useful.
33. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. The effectiveness of education. B. The role of advanced technology.
C. The value of literacy and numeracy. D. The decline in political engagement.
34. Why is England mentioned in paragraph 4
A. To criticize its outdated education system.
B. To reveal the decrease in its dropout rate.
C. To demonstrate its high ranking in the OECD.
D. To highlight the significance of children's education.
35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. University students are financially supported.
B. Children are embarrassingly worse in numeracy.
C. Degrees and abilities are not necessarily matched.
D. Expensive university courses have good alternatives.

In psychology, the word "prove" is used carefully, much like a painter applies each brushstroke (笔触) with great care. Unlike the strong conclusions in physical sciences, psychological research builds a bigger picture through many small studies. 36._______ His discovery was not a sudden breakthrough but the result of hard and detailed work.
Similarly, Elizabeth Loftus's research doubts how accurate witness reports are. Instead of calling it "unreliable," researchers use terms like "potential unreliability." 37._______ So, they use words like "demonstrate" and "suggest" to show the uncertainty in their conclusions.
38._______ Instead, I teach my students to think critically about how to use it, much like a gardener who cares for plants. When students first use the word, I encourage them to think about factors that could challenge their conclusions. For example, I might ask them, "How do we know that not all participants had false memories " Or, for French students, "Why might these findings not apply to French culture "
This approach helps students grasp the complexity of psychological research and develop critical thinking skills. It encourages them to reflect and analyze, helping them communicate their findings with accuracy. 39._______
In psychology, "proving" something is like building a symphony. 40._______ In education, teaching critical thinking and clear language use is essential for understanding the core of psychological research.
A. This indicates that findings might change.
B. In my classroom, I do not ban the word "prove."
C. Each piece of evidence adds to a larger understanding.
D. Psychological theories are often revised as new evidence emerges.
E. As a teacher, I often remind my students to use this word appropriately.
F. This method also builds appreciation for the depth of psychological inquiry.
G. For example, Eric Kandel spent years studying sea animals to learn how memory works.

One Saturday morning, Jeremy woke up to a quiet house. Usually, Mom was awake making breakfast and cleaning the kitchen, but not today. At the sound of his mom coughing, Jeremy knocked on her bedroom door and asked with great concern if she was okay."Honey," Mom said weakly. "I have a terrible cold. You can have cereal (燕麦) for breakfast and watch cartoons. I'm going to stay in bed."
Jeremy poured some cereal into a bowl and ate the pieces dry. Mom must feel very bad if she was staying in bed all day. How could Jeremy help First, he wiped up the crumbs of cereal he left on the kitchen counter. He also put away the cereal box neatly, so the kitchen looked just as it did when he woke up. But what else could he do Jeremy thought. Saturday was the day when mom did some washing. Jeremy loved to watch the clothes spinning in the machine. That should be fun! He ran to his room to get the clothes basket, inside which there was his mother's favorite white dress, among other clothes and a pair of red socks.
Jeremy opened the door to the washer and put the clothes inside. He had watched Mom do the washing lots of times, so he knew where to find the washing powder and how to pour it into the machine. Finally, he closed the door and pressed the big button that said "START." Jeremy looked through the round glass window. Water was pouring in, and the machine was starting to spin, making his clothing tumble around. That was easy!
Jeremy watched cartoons until he heard the washing machine beep. That meant the washing was done. Jeremy opened the door to take out the damp clothes. He took out a few at a time and moved them into the dryer. Everything seemed clean, and Jeremy felt proud. Then he pulled out a pink dress.

This is powerful evidence that even though models are trained to output one word at a time, they may think on much longer horizons to do so.
D
32. 答案:A
根据第一段中In literacy (读写能力), a lot more countries have seen scores decline than advance, despite the fact that adults hold more and higher educational qualifications than ever before.
Yet a century of technological development has not cut demand for people who are good with numbers or words. Adults who do badly in the OECD's tests earn much less than those who top them. They are also in poorer health, less satisfied with their life, less trusting of others and more likely to feel that they have no voice in politics.
Improving lessons for children is the surest way of creating more capable grownups. England's adults have gradually improved their position in the OECD's rankings, mostly because the youngest ones are scoring better than before.
Degrees are becoming less meaningful: the OECD has found that even some university graduates post numeracy and literacy scores that might embarrass a child. Meanwhile, those adults who want to return to class without beginning with long, expensive university courses often find good alternatives are lacking.

The professor introduced the applications of AI in education, like smart tutoring and personalized learning. He also shared some real-world cases where students improved their academic performance significantly with the help of AI tools.
It really broadened my horizons. I realized AI can make learning more efficient and interesting. Moreover, I'm more motivated to explore how to use AI to enhance my own learning process.
Yours,
Li Hua

But he remembered there was no pink dress in the laundry basket. Overwhelmed by a surge of confusion, Jeremy pulled out a few more clothes and checked over each item. As his eyes rested on the red socks, Jeremy was sure that he had found the answer. His heart missed a beat—he had spoiled his mom's favorite dress by not washing them separately! Panic seized Jeremy, leaving him in a sweat. However, he knew he had to face the music. He took a deep breath to compose himself.
Holding the pink dress Jeremy dragged himself towards his mom's bedroom. Hardly had he approached the bedside when Mom noticed her son's unease. She sat up, asking him what was wrong. Jeremy held out the pink dress, stumbling through an explanation. "I know you meant to help," Mom beamed at Jeremy. Then she held the dress up before her and said in an approving tone, "I think it looks nice." At this, Jeremy grinned from ear to ear, giving his mom a warm hug.

M: No, I was busy with my report. Did you watch it
W: Yes, I went with my cousin. It was quite good.
Text 2
W: Hi, Albert. I just received a call from Peterson's company. They want to know if the brochures are ready.
M: Well, the printing has been delayed because the factory went through a power failure the other day.
Text 3
W: Excuse me. Where are the checking desks for American Airlines
M: Over there. Desks numbers 47 to 50.
W: Okay, thanks.
Text 4
W: Steve, what would you say is your hometown
M: Um, that's a difficult question because I've traveled around so much. Still, um, Toronto, I suppose. I've lived there for more than twenty years. I wasn't born there, though.
Text 5
W: Look at all the paper in the waste basket next to the copy machine. That's really wasteful. There should be a better way to deal with it.
M: Well, we should try to recycle all our waste paper. That would save money and help the environment.
Text 6
M: Who was that
W: It was Cindy. She sounded very upset and said that she couldn't follow the teacher. I knew the training class was making her upset.
M: Honey, calm down. She'll be all right.
W: I'm calling her teacher. Give me Miss Gale's number. Maybe she could help her.
M: Okay, okay, her number is 673-898-98.
Text 7
M: Lucy, I have a conflict in my schedule. I don't know what to do.
W: Can't you rearrange your schedule
M: No, the other sections of the courses I need are closed.
W: Then you'll have to drop a course.
M: I don't know which one to drop — Math 102, or History 301
W: Well, since you want to major in Computer Science and you need to take Math 102 before taking several computer science courses like CS 203, it's important to take Math 102 right away.
M: You are right, but I do like history and I heard the history teacher is a very good one. I'll think about it.
Text 8
W: Hey, you are back from your vacation. Where did you go
M: Maddieville.
W: Where is Maddieville I've never heard of it.
M: It's a small town about a six-hour drive from here. There is an old-style main street just like one in the good old days, you know. It was really amazing. Along the street, there are many old shops, and the people are very friendly.
W: I'm not sure I'd want to travel back in time. It doesn't sound very exciting.
M: It was not as lively as some places I had been to but I enjoyed the old shops, the sincere people and the true friendliness.
W: What did you do there
M: For an entire week, I visited the shops, ate at the family-owned restaurants, and learned about the unusual history of the town by chatting with the old-timers at the local bar.
W: But that sounds like a boring place to me.
M: Then I guess you wouldn't want to go back with me this summer for their music festival.
W: Did you say music festival Maybe I shouldn't dismiss small-town appeal quite so quickly.
Text 9
W: Did you enjoy your stay with us, sir
M: Yes, very much. Now I need to get to the airport. I have a flight that leaves in about two hours. I heard you have a free airport bus service
W: Yes, we do. The next bus leaves in about half an hour. It takes about twenty-five minutes to get to the airport.
M: Fantastic. I'll just wait in the hallway. Will you please let me know when it will be leaving
W: Of course, sir. Oh, before you go, would you please settle the bill for your drink at our bar just now
M: Oh, sorry, I almost forgot. How much is it
W: Fifteen dollars and fifty cents. How would you like to pay
M: Credit card. And I'll need a receipt, please.
W: Okay. Would you like to sign the hotel guest book while you wait
M: Sure, I had a really good stay here.
W: Thank you again for staying with us.
Text 10
W: Well, now let me tell you what I've been doing in recent years. In 2015, I retired from my post as a designer for a furniture company. And since then, I've been working as a volunteer. In 2017, I joined Green Woodpecker—an organization that promotes environmental protection. At the beginning, I mostly worked in public squares near the west railway station, helping the traffic police and giving directions to passengers. Then my work focus changed. When our city adopted the new tobacco control rules in June, 2018, I began a new task: persuading people not to smoke in public places. In addition to the railway station, I have been going to places where there are many restaurants and bars. We work in groups of three, and try to stop people from smoking. Fortunately, most smokers are supportive and put out their cigarettes when we ask them to, but that was not the case in the early days — some smokers could become quite violent.
I like being a volunteer. The work is exciting and makes me feel young. It has now become part of my life.
