Grammar——过去将来时
概念:过去将来时描述从过去某一时间看将要发生的某个动作或存在的某个状态。
一、过去将来时的常见结构及其用法
(一)过去将来时的主要形式:would+动词原形
[先感知]
①Yet,very few people knew that future avatars would have such a wide variety of forms and uses.(北师必二U4)
然而,很少有人知道,未来的虚拟形象会有如此多样的形式和用途。
②They said the letter inside would explain what it was all about,but he had to postpone opening it until 2 o’clock.(人教必三U5)
他们说里面的信会解释一切,但他得推迟到两点钟再打开。
③Many would become sick,due to the extreme cold and low air pressure,and a few would even lose their lives.(外研必三U5)
由于极端严寒与低气压,许多人会生病,甚至有少数人会丢掉生命。
④He couldn’t ensure that he would arrive on time.

⑤If I were you,I would not do that.

[会发现]
在句①和句②中,would do 用于宾语从句中,主句谓语为一般过去时。
在句③中,would do表示一种习惯性动作,可以翻译为“会”。
在句④中,would do表示计划或安排。
在句⑤和⑥中,would do用在虚拟语气中。
[明规则]
“would+动词原形”表示:
1.表示从过去某时来看将要发生的动作或存在的状态。常用于宾语从句中。
2.表示过去的某种习惯性行为,只用would。
3.表示根据计划、安排即将发生。
4.用于虚拟语气中表示对现在或将来情况的虚拟。
(二)过去将来时的其他形式

[会发现]
在句①和②中,“was/were going to+动词原形”表示过去准备、计划做某事。
在句③中,“was/were about to+动词原形”意为“正要、即将”。
在句④和⑤中,“was/were to+动词原形”,表示曾计划做某事,但不表明计划是否被执行。
[明规则]
1.“was/were going to+动词原形”表示过去准备、计划做某事,或将要发生某事。
2.“was/were about to+动词原形”意为“正要、即将”,表示过去即将发生的动作。常用于句型“be about to do...when...”,表示“正要做……这时……”。
3.“was/were to+动词原形”表示曾计划做某事,但不表明计划是否被执行;或表示命中注定要发生的事。

二、特殊用法
1.go、come、leave、arrive、take off等少数瞬间动词可用过去进行时表示过去将要发生的情况。
I asked her whether she was coming to the party.
我问她是否要来参加晚会。
He told me Mr Green was leaving for Hawaii a few hours later.
他告诉我格林先生几个小时后就要去夏威夷。
2.条件状语从句和时间状语从句中需用一般过去时表示过去将来时。
I didn’t know when she would come,but when she came I would let you know.
我不知道她什么时候来,但她来了我会告诉你。
注意:第一个when引导宾语从句,可使用过去将来时;第二个when引导时间状语从句,只能用一般过去时代替过去将来时。
[再运用] 用所给动词的适当形式填空
