A team of students in the Netherlands have designed and built a solid car that’s completely powered by the sun. The car, called Stella Terra, is the first solar-powered car that can travel off-road for long distances without needing a recharging station.
Students at Eindhoven University of Technology have been working on solar-powered cars for years. But last year, 30 students, known as Solar Team Eindhoven, took a year off to work on developing an off-road solar-powered car.
To bring a highly efficient (有效的) solar-powered car closer to reality, the team designed the entire car, from top to bottom. The car generated energy using the absorbed solar power from the solar panels (板) on top, which are 97% efficient. Most solar panels, by contrast, are only about 20% efficient, meaning a waste of about 80% of the sunlight they get. Weighing just 2,600 pounds, the car has a top speed of 90 miles per hour and can run for 440 miles on a sunny day. On the bottom, they designed a system to handle the heavy shaking that comes when driving over uneven surfaces.
The landscape of the Netherlands limits the testing options available to the team, so they took the car on its biggest test drive across Morocco, where the car had to weather through forests and dry riverbeds, across loose desert sand and up challenging mountain paths. The car succeeded in doing all of this and all without ever stopping at a charging station.
“It was an incredible trip with a positive ending. We’re pushing the boundaries of technology,” says Wisse Bos, the team manager. The team take pride in their car, but they won’t be upset if car companies start to copy their ideas. In fact, they hope Stella Terra will inspire car companies to work on similar projects. But despite their success, the students think it’ll take 5 to 10 years before car companies are able to build a similar car.
24.What’s the purpose of mentioning the data in Paragraph 3?
A.To highlight the development of cars. B.To explain the car’s complex structure.
C.To clarify problems with other solar panels. D.To demonstrate the car’s good performance.
25.Why was Morocco chosen to do the major car testing?
A.It’s a thinly populated place. B.It enjoys a pleasant climate.
C.Its landforms meet test requirements. D.It has convenient transportation.
26.How did Wisse Bos sound about their car?
A.Disturbed. B.Shocked.
C.Excited. D.Awkward.
27.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.An Adventurous Trip
B.The Future of Electric Cars
C.Stella Terra: the First Eco-friendly Vehicle
D.Students Create Lasting Solar-Powered Car

When I first met Nao Junior, he was in his 40s and one of only nine members of his Indigenous (土著的) group, Great Andamanese, who still spoke the idiom of his ancestors. As a language specialist, I had researched more than 80 Indian languages. I was on the islands to document their Indigenous voices before they faded into whispers.
Words in this language consisted of two classes: free and bound. The free words were all nouns that referred to the environment and its inhabitants, such as ra for “pig”. They could occur alone. The bound words were nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs that always existed with markers indicating a relation to other objects, events or states. The markers came from seven zones of the body and were attached to a root word to describe concepts such as “inside”“outside”“upper” and “lower”. For example, the morpheme (词素) er-, which qualified most anything having to do with an outer body part, could be stuck to -cho to yield ercho, meaning “head”.
Just as a head, a bound word, could not conceptually exist on its own, the mode and effect of an action could not be divided from the verb describing the action. Great Andamanese had no words for agriculture but a great many for hunting and fishing, mainly with a bow and arrow. Thus, the root word shile, meaning “to aim”, had several versions: utshile, to aim from above; arashile, to aim from a distance; and eshile, aiming to make a hole with a sharp object.
The studies established that the language seems to be truly old in origin. In a multistage process of development, words describing diverse body parts had changed into morphemes referring to different zones and combined with content words to yield meaning. The structure alone provides an insight into an ancient worldview in which the macrocosm (宏观世界) reflects the microcosm, and everything that is or that happens inseparably connects to everything else.
28.What is the purpose of the author’s stay on the islands?
A.To meet with an old friend. B.To teach Indigenous idioms.
C.To record an ancient language. D.To trace her ancestors.
29.Which of the following best explains “Aim at a pig’s head from afar” in Great Andamanese?
A.Arashile ra ercho. B.Arashile ercho.
C.Eshile ercho. D.Eshile ra ercho.
30.What can we infer from the verbs in Great Andamanese?
A.A verb could describe more than one action.
B.Some of the verbs could be used on their own.
C.The locals probably live off seafood and meat.
D.The tools used in people’s daily lives are diverse.
31.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A.Great Andamanese is the origin of multiple languages.
B.Great Andamanese is a doorway to the ancient wisdom.
C.Great Andamanese tells the development of the community.
D.Human body shapes Great Andamanese’s unique worldview.

Why do we find ugly animals so attractive? And what makes odd-looking creatures so cute?
Evolution plays a role. According to Austrian zoologist Konrad Lorenz, human attraction to infantile (婴儿的) features, such as big eyes, large heads and soft bodies, is an evolutionary adaptation that helps ensure that adults care for their children, guaranteeing the survival of their species. Strange-looking animals such as blobfish, pugs, aye-ayes and bulldogs all share these infantile qualities that cause an affectionate response among humans and an innate instinct to nurture and protect. And these infantile characteristics increase a person’s “protective behavior, attention and willingness to care” for the individual and reduce the “likelihood of aggression towards an infant”, says Marta Borgi, a researcher.
Ugly animals often have other value — some, like the blobfish or the naked mole rat, live in extreme environments that they have adapted to in remarkable ways. Scientists are keen to study these animals to understand whether their biology might provide fresh insights that could lead to treatments for human health conditions such as cancer, heart disease and neurodegenerative diseases.
But while many ugly creatures are exquisitely adapted to their lives in the wild and can provide enormous benefits to the ecosystems they live in, they often still don’t get as much attention as more traditionally cute and cuddly animals. This can result in a bias (偏见) which leads to many of the less attractive species being overlooked in terms of research.
There are culture-led other factors that also drive our obsession (痴迷) with ugly-cute animals. “The ugly-cute thing is very fashionable,” says Rowena Packer, a lecturer of animal behavior. “This is partly driven by social media, with many celebrities (名人) and influencers showing off pet pugs and French bulldogs on Instagram,” she says.
But there are some serious welfare concerns around this trend. Vets are urging people not to choose a flat-faced dog breed, because they suffer from serious health problems. Pugs and French bulldogs which have been selectively bred experience breathing difficulties, repeated skin infections and eye diseases. So while goofy features such as bulging eyes and wrinkly faces may make us smile, we might want to reconsider our obsession with “ugly-cute” pets.
32.According to Konrad Lorenz, what features in animals are attractive to humans?
A.Shiny colors. B.Big eyes and large heads.
C.Unusual body shapes. D.Soft fur and large faces.
33.What does the underlined word “overlooked” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Valued. B.Reconsidered.
C.Ignored. D.Misunderstood.
34.How do social media drive people’s obsession with ugly-cute animals?
A.By leading different cultures.
B.By showing off ugly animals’ behaviors.
C.By exposing many celebrities and influencers.
D.By publicizing widely known people’s ugly-cute pets.
35.What is the text mainly about?
A.How ugly animals adapt to the wild. B.Why we like ugly-cute animals.
C.Why lovely animals attract humans. D.How we handle animals’ health problems.

  阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Where is it? We’re going to be late!” Janice searched the house crazily for her wallet. “Josh! Did you hide my wallet? We have to be at Grandpa’s for his birthday party!” Josh, Janice’s four-year-old younger brother, smiled innocently at her, but his cunning (狡黠的) eyes gave himself away. She tried her best not to shout. Grinning (咧嘴笑) like a cat, Josh reached under the sofa, pulled out her wallet and held it over his head. Janice grabbed it.
Ten minutes later, they hurried to the train station. Red-faced and sweating, Janice let go of Josh’s wrist and removed the sweat from her forehead. The train arrived. Her smile froze when she realized that the train was packed with passengers. Grabbing Josh’s hand, Janice boarded the train. She commanded, “The train’s really crowded, Josh. Behave yourself, stick close to me, and no monkey business!” Josh nodded, holding tightly to a rail. Janice smiled.
When it was time to get off the train, Janice quickly pushed her way through the crowd to get onto the platform. “We made it!” Janice said, turning around. Josh was nowhere to be seen. The crowd was flooding out, but Josh was not among them. “The train doors are closing,” then came the electronic voice. Soon, the crowd on the platform died down. The last thing Janice saw was Josh’s little anxious face at the train window: Just as Janice was about to call out Josh’s name, the train disappeared from view. “Josh!” Janice screamed.
Janice’s mind was transported back to when she was lost at the zoo. She could still vividly remember the towering figures surrounding her and none of them were familiar. “I don’t want Josh to go through that same bitter experience,” Janice let out a sigh.
Janice took out her mobile phone, ready to call her mother. However, midway, she decided against it. Her mother, who was far away in France on business, could do nothing but get restless. Janice paced up and down the platform anxiously.

(Text 10)
W:Last night I had a frightening experience. While I was eating dinner at the fast food restaurant where I normally go when I’m in a hurry, the manager announced that everybody had to leave the building. The place was crowded and that made the situation dangerous, as everyone was determined to get out first. To make matters worse, an elderly woman, who must have weighed 300 pounds, had just come up to the entrance, which was also the only exit. In the meantime, I remembered that I had left my purse in the chair I had been occupying when the announcement was made. It was certainly not convenient to return and get it, but I had to do it. When I finally got outside, I saw that the police bomb team had arrived and the men were studying the area. They finally found out that it was all a false alarm and the crowd went away.

第一节
Learning through Traveling
I recently visited the captivating city of Beijing, the heart of China’s rich history and culture. From the Forbidden City to the bustling hutongs, not only did I experience a tapestry of sights, sounds, and traditions, but I was struck by the hospitality and warmth of the local people. Their culture taught me valuable lessons about the importance of roots and heritage.
This trip taught me that traveling is not just about seeing new places, but also about learning new ways of thinking and understanding. It opens our eyes to the beauty of diversity and allows us to embrace the world with a more open mind.
第二节
Just then, Janice received a call from an unknown number. “Hello? Janice? I’m at Paya Station! I’m calling from a kind lady’s phone!” Josh cried out in his panicked voice. “Take it easy, Josh. I’m coming,” Janice comforted him. Soon Janice caught the next train. On getting off at Paya Station, she saw Josh dashing towards her, his face soaked with tears. Janice wrapped him into a tight hug, whispering, “Thank goodness! I’ve found you at last!” Taking Josh’s hand, Janice approached the kind lady passenger, who had been accompanying Josh and had missed her own train. Janice expressed her sincere appreciation repeatedly.
Having waved goodbye to the lady, they headed for their destination. After about an hour’s bus ride, they made it to their Grandpa’s house, where they threw a grand birthday party for Grandpa, singing and dancing cheerfully. Having had a delicious meal and a happy chat, they parted with Grandpa and started their trip back home. This time, Janice held Josh’s hand all the way and they boarded the returning train. “Thankfully you don’t have to be put through that terrible experience,” Janice smiled at Josh, assuring her brother, “Never will I leave you alone.” For them, this unforgettable trip would stick in their memories.

A team of students in the Netherlands have designed and built a solid
car that’s completely powered by the sun. The car, called Stella
Terra, is the first solar-powered car that can travel off-road for long
distances without needing a recharging station.
Students at Eindhoven University of Technology have been working
on solar-powered cars for years. But last year, 30 students, known as
Solar Team Eindhoven, took a year off to work on developing an off-road
solar-powered car.
To bring a highly efficient (有效的) solar-powered car closer to
reality, the team designed the entire car, from top to bottom. The car
generated energy using the absorbed solar power from the solar panels
(板) on top, which are 97% efficient. Most solar panels, by
contrast, are only about 20% efficient, meaning a waste of about 80%
of the sunlight they get. Weighing just 2,600 pounds, the car has a top
speed of 90 miles per hour and can run for 440 miles on a sunny day. On
the bottom, they designed a system to handle the heavy shaking that
comes when driving over uneven surfaces.
The landscape of the Netherlands limits the testing options available
to the team, so they took the car on its biggest test drive across
Morocco, where the car had to weather through forests and dry
riverbeds, across loose desert sand and up challenging mountain paths.
The car succeeded in doing all of this and all without ever stopping at a
charging station.
“It was an incredible trip with a positive ending. We’re pushing
the boundaries of technology,” says Wisse Bos, the team manager.
The team take pride in their car, but they won’t be upset if car
companies start to copy their ideas. In fact, they hope Stella Terra will
inspire car companies to work on similar projects. But despite their
success, the students think it’ll take 5 to 10 years before car companies
are able to build a similar car.

When I first met Nao Junior, he was in his 40s and one of only nine
members of his Indigenous (土著的) group, Great Andamanese,
who still spoke the idiom of his ancestors. As a language specialist, I had
researched more than 80 Indian languages. I was on the islands to
document their Indigenous voices before they faded into whispers.
Words in this language consisted of two classes: free and bound.
The free words were all nouns that referred to the environment and its
inhabitants, such as ra for “pig”. They could occur alone. The bound
words were nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs that always existed
with markers indicating a relation to other objects, events or states. The
markers came from seven zones of the body and were attached to a root
word to describe concepts such as “inside”“outside”“upper” and
“lower”. For example, the morpheme (词素) er-, which qualified
most anything having to do with an outer body part, could be stuck to -
cho to yield ercho, meaning “head”.
Just as a head, a bound word, could not conceptually exist on its
own, the mode and effect of an action could not be divided from the verb
describing the action. Great Andamanese had no words for agriculture but
a great many for hunting and fishing, mainly with a bow and arrow.
Thus, the root word shile, meaning “to aim”, had several
versions: utshile, to aim from above; arashile, to aim from a
distance; and eshile, aiming to make a hole with a sharp object.
The studies established that the language seems to be truly old in
origin. In a multistage process of development, words describing diverse
body parts had changed into morphemes referring to different zones and
combined with content words to yield meaning. The structure alone
provides an insight into an ancient worldview in which the macrocosm
(宏观世界) reflects the microcosm, and everything that is or that
happens inseparably connects to everything else.

Why do we find ugly animals so attractive? And what makes odd-
looking creatures so cute?
Evolution plays a role. According to Austrian zoologist Konrad
Lorenz, human attraction to infantile (婴儿的) features, such as big eyes, large heads and soft bodies, is an evolutionary adaptation that helps ensure that adults care for their children, guaranteeing the survival of their species. Strange-looking animals such as blobfish ,
pugs, aye-ayes and bulldogs all share these infantile qualities that cause an affectionate response among humans and an innate instinct to nurture and protect. And these infantile characteristics increase a person’s “protective behavior, attention and willingness to care” for the individual and reduce the “likelihood of aggression towards an infant”, says Marta Borgi, a researcher.
Ugly animals often have other value — some, like the blobfish or
the naked mole rat, live in extreme environments that they have adapted
to in remarkable ways. Scientists are keen to study these animals to
understand whether their biology might provide fresh insights that could
lead to treatments for human health conditions such as cancer, heart
disease and neurodegenerative diseases.
But while many ugly creatures are exquisitely adapted to their lives in
the wild and can provide enormous benefits to the ecosystems they live
in, they often still don’t get as much attention as more traditionally cute
and cuddly animals. This can result in a bias (偏见) which leads to
many of the less attractive species being overlooked in terms of research.
There are culture-led other factors that also drive our obsession (痴
迷) with ugly-cute animals. “The ugly-cute thing is very
fashionable,” says Rowena Packer, a lecturer of animal behavior.
“This is partly driven by social media, with many celebrities (名人)
and influencers showing off pet pugs and French bulldogs on
Instagram,” she says.
But there are some serious welfare concerns around this trend. Vets
are urging people not to choose a flat-faced dog breed, because they
suffer from serious health problems. Pugs and French bulldogs which have
been selectively bred experience breathing difficulties, repeated skin
infections and eye diseases. So while goofy features such as bulging eyes
and wrinkly faces may make us smile, we might want to reconsider our
obsession with “ugly-cute” pets.

Learning through Traveling
I recently visited the captivating city of Beijing, the heart of
China’s rich history and culture. From the Forbidden City to the bustling
hutongs, not only did I experience a tapestry of sights, sounds, and
traditions, but I was struck by the hospitality and warmth of the local
people. Their culture taught me valuable lessons about the importance of
roots and heritage.
This trip taught me that traveling is not just about seeing new
places, but also about learning new ways of thinking and understanding.
It opens our eyes to the beauty of diversity and allows us to embrace the
world with a more open mind.
第二节(满分25分)
  阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构
成一篇完整的短文。
“Where is it? We’re going to be late!” Janice searched the
house crazily for her wallet. “Josh! Did you hide my wallet? We have
to be at Grandpa’s for his birthday party!” Josh, Janice’s four-year-
old younger brother, smiled innocently at her, but his cunning (狡黠
的) eyes gave himself away. She tried her best not to shout. Grinning
(咧嘴笑) like a cat, Josh reached under the sofa, pulled out her
wallet and held it over his head. Janice grabbed it.
Ten minutes later, they hurried to the train station. Red-faced and
sweating, Janice let go of Josh’s wrist and removed the sweat from her
forehead. The train arrived. Her smile froze when she realized that the
train was packed with passengers. Grabbing Josh’s hand, Janice
boarded the train. She commanded, “The train’s really crowded,
Josh. Behave yourself, stick close to me, and no monkey business!”
Josh nodded, holding tightly to a rail. Janice smiled.
When it was time to get off the train, Janice quickly pushed her way
through the crowd to get onto the platform. “We made it!” Janice
said, turning around. Josh was nowhere to be seen. The crowd was
flooding out, but Josh was not among them. “The train doors are
closing,” then came the electronic voice. Soon, the crowd on the
platform died down. The last thing Janice saw was Josh’s little anxious
face at the train window: Just as Janice was about to call out Josh’s
name, the train disappeared from view. “Josh!” Janice screamed.
Janice’s mind was transported back to when she was lost at the zoo.
She could still vividly remember the towering figures surrounding her and
none of them were familiar. “I don’t want Josh to go through that same
bitter experience,” Janice let out a sigh.
Janice took out her mobile phone, ready to call her mother.
However, midway, she decided against it. Her mother, who was far
away in France on business, could do nothing but get restless. Janice
paced up and down the platform anxiously.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式作答。
Just then, Janice received a call from an unknown number.

参考范文:
Just then, Janice received a call from an unknown number.
“Hello? Janice? I’m at Paya Station! I’m calling from a kind
lady’s phone!” Josh cried out in his panicked voice. “Take it easy,
Josh. I’m coming,” Janice comforted him. Soon Janice caught the
next train. On getting off at Paya Station, she saw Josh dashing towards
her, his face soaked with tears. Janice wrapped him into a tight hug,
whispering, “Thank goodness! I’ve found you at last!” Taking
Josh’s hand, Janice approached the kind lady passenger, who had
been accompanying Josh and had missed her own train. Janice expressed
her sincere appreciation repeatedly.
Having waved goodbye to the lady, they headed for their
destination. After about an hour’s bus ride, they made it to their
Grandpa’s house, where they threw a grand birthday party for
Grandpa, singing and dancing cheerfully. Having had a delicious meal
and a happy chat, they parted with Grandpa and started their trip back
home. This time, Janice held Josh’s hand all the way and they boarded
the returning train. “Thankfully you don’t have to be put through that
terrible experience,” Janice smiled at Josh, assuring her brother,
“Never will I leave you alone.” For them, this unforgettable trip
would stick in their memories.
