When he was 18, Isaac went to study at Cambridge University. He was very interested in physics and maths. But in 1665, the Great Plague, a terrible disease, spread in England, and Cambridge University had to close down. Isaac had to return to the farm. However, he continued studying and testing new things at home.
One day when he was drinking a cup of tea in the garden, he saw an apple fall from a tree. He thought, “Why do apples fall down instead of going up ” From this, he formed the theory of gravity (万有引力). Gravity is an invisible force. Nobody can see it. But it pulls objects towards the Earth and keeps the planets moving around the Sun. Isaac made another important discovery. He called it “Three Laws of Motion” (三大运动定律). These laws explain how objects move. Isaac’s laws are still used today for sending rockets into space.

In our society, we often care about what others do, but this can sometimes feel stressful. Especially for public persons, there’s often a hidden pressure. People often show anger toward them on social media (媒体) because of their unintentional (不经意的) decisions. The Olympic champion (冠军) Quan Hongchan suffered from this. According to reports, Quan returned to Guangzhou after attending an event. During her trip, she stopped by an Apple store to buy a phone for her family. This should have been a simple personal choice, but it quickly drew attention on social media. Some people said she didn’t love our country just because she chose a foreign brand.
This situation raises questions about how society sees famous people and their personal choices. Should athletes be treated so strictly for such decisions The answer is, of course, no, Quan has the same rights as anyone to make personal decisions, including which products to buy Being a public person doesn’t mean giving up the freedom (自由) to make ordinary choices. As a teenager, she should be allowed to enjoy privacy (隐私) like anyone else.
However, public persons like Quan often suffer from too much attention from the public Since her Olympic win in 2021, Quan’s life has been under a microscope (显微镜) . This kind of attention creates big pressure, turning what should be a kind of pride into a kind of stress.
It’s time to consider why the public pay more attention to her personal choices than her real achievements. Quan is an Olympic champion who has brought pride to our country with her athletic skills. Instead of paying too much attention to small matters like her choice of phone, the public should celebrate her hard work in sports and the fame she has won for our country on the world stage. After all, public persons enjoy the same freedom as anyone else to live their lives.

As Asimov worked long hours in the store, he noticed that the sci-fi magazines kept drawing customers in. 32 His father, however, thought that sci-fi magazines were useless. He told his son not to waste time reading about things that “do not exist and never will”.
33 Asimov continued to read those magazines secretly. While they opened the door to a whole new world for the boy, his father gave him a library card. The boy became a regular visitor to the library nearby. As Asimov himself once wrote, “ 34 And I made the most of it. For a poor boy whose family could not afford to buy books, the library was like a door to wonder.”
Asimov sold his first sci-fi story when he was still in high school. As his writing kept improving, Asimov’s stories became more and more popular. By the time he was thirty-six, 35 He created the word “robotics” and invented the famous “Three Laws of Robotics”. 第一节 任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
Are electric cars (电车) good for the Earth Many of us would probably say yes. But Robert Sansone knows the answer isn’t that simple. Sansone is called a natural-born engineer. It is not surprising if you know the 17-year-old has completed nearly 60 engineering projects.
A couple of years ago, Sansone watched a video about the advantages and disadvantages of electric cars. The video explained how the motors (发动机) of these cars are made. Most of them use rare-earth metals (稀土金属). These materials are very expensive. Even worse, they are often collected in ways that are harmful to the Earth. “Must we use these metals Is there a more environmentally-friendly way ” Sansone thought. He had heard of the synchronous reluctance motor (同步电动机) before. But its performance should be improved.
Over the following year, Sansone put one design after another to the test. Things didn’t go well at first. He failed fourteen times before coming up with a working model. The model is about 40% more powerful than a traditional one. And it doesn’t use rare-earth metals. These efforts have helped Sansone win a big award. He took part in this year’s Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (大奖赛) with his motor. It’s the world’s largest pre-college science competition. He stood out from more than 1,800 competitors to win first prize.
Sansone, however, isn’t yet done with his invention because it is far from perfect. It is difficult to make. This means it’s hard to become widely used. So Sansone has continued to improve and test his motor. Hopefully Sansone’s design will completely change the electric car industry one day.
71.How many engineering projects has Sansone completed at the age of 17
72.Are rare-earth metals expensive
73.What is the world’s largest pre-college science competition

The Computer Has Changed My Life
Inventions are around us. Among the inventions, the computer has a great influence on me and it has changed my life. Before I had a computer, I used to communicate with my friends by letter. When I met new words, I had to look them up in the dictionary. When I felt stressed, I just listened to music on MP3. After I received a computer on my twelfth birthday, my life changed. I can communicate with my friends freely by receiving and sending e-mails.
I can use the computer to search for some useful information and look up new words. When I feel stressed, I can listen to music online to relax myself. In a word, the computer has changed my life a lot.
