FAMOUS CHINESE PAINTINGS, ARTISTIC TREASURES
With thousands of years of continuous history, China is one of the most unique nations. Over many centuries, Chinese artists have created paintings that are now in the hearts of more than a billion people.
Nymph of the Luo River — Gu Kaizhi
The legend has it that Cao Zhi, a prince of the state of Cao Wei, fell in love with the governor's daughter. However, she married his brother, Cao Pi, and the prince became upset. Later, he composed an emotional poem about the love between the goddess and common people. In the 4th century, Gu Kaizhi, a Chinese artist, was moved by the story and illustrated the poem.
Court Ladies Adorning Their Hair with Flowers — Zhou Fang
During the Tang Dynasty, China had a prosperous economy and flourishing culture. In this period, the genre of “beautiful women painting” enjoyed popularity. Coming from a noble background, Zhou Fang, a Chinese artist, created artworks in this genre. In his painting, the ladies stand as though they were fashion models, but one of them is entertaining herself by teasing a cute dog.
Along the River During the Qingming Festival — Zhang Zeduan
Zhang Zeduan depicted the landscape in his work Along the River During the Qingming Festival. However, instead of concentrating on the vastness of nature, he captured the daily life of the people of Bianjing, present day Kaifeng. His work shows much about life in the Northern Song Dynasty.
A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains — Wang Ximeng
Not only did officials and scholars enjoy listening to music but they also found pleasure in depicting nature. One such painter was Wang Ximeng. He was a prodigy. Wang Ximeng painted A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains when he was only seventeen years old. He died at the age of twenty, but he left one of the largest and most beautiful paintings in Chinese history.

An Art Class
When Kelly was twelve, she started taking classes at Miss Grace's School for Art. She didn't like it at first: the “novice artists” — the kids who hadn't really done art before — worked mostly with clay, and Kelly was a terrible sculptor.
It wasn't until her third year that Kelly found something she was really good at — charcoal drawing. She loved watching the lines spread unevenly across the page as she moved the bits of charcoal back and forth over the paper.
One day, Sophia, the best artist in her class, sat down and set up her easel (画架) next to Kelly. Kelly felt a sinking feeling in her stomach. She'd actually found an art form that she enjoyed and was good at — and now Sophia was going to outshine her again Kelly fought back tears when Miss Grace entered the room.
“Hello class,” Miss Grace said. “We'll continue to work on the project today. What masterpiece would Sophia have come up with?”
Kelly looked at Sophia's easel and she couldn't believe it. It was a mess! For a brief moment, Kelly couldn't actually believe her drawing was better than Sophia's.
But then she looked at Sophia, who was watching Kelly with an anxious expression. “I ... I couldn't decide what to do,” Sophia said. “And you're so good. Sometimes I feel like my stuff is just so bad in comparison.”
Kelly looked to see if Sophia was joking, but she seemed completely serious. Now Kelly was shocked. “I'm not talented ... Miss Grace seldom praises me. You're the best one in our class!”
Sophia raised her eyebrows. “I might be a really good copier of the stuff, but I have no idea what to do when it comes to making up my own images. You are so great at making new things out of the old stuff. I've loved your works.”
“I've loved yours, too,” Kelly said.
“Well, definitely not this one,” Sophia said.
Kelly smiled. “Maybe not right now. But if you move these lines up ...” she said, pointing her finger on Sophia's paper.
Sophia was quiet for a moment. “That's a great idea!” she said finally.
Kelly smiled and turned back to her drawing, looking every so often at Sophia's work to see that she was taking her advice, down to the last line.

Finger painting is an art that most people have experienced in childhood. But there are still people who know little about this art form.Finger painting is a simple activity that involves dipping (浸;蘸) fingers in paints and then using fingers to create objects and shapes on a piece of paper. All you need is a table at elbow height, a few sheets of plain paper, and a few bottles of watercolor.
When engaging kids in this activity, one should use non toxic (无毒的) paints only.If not available in the market readily, non toxic paints can be made at home easily.Preferably, the paints should also be eatable.Finger paints come in bright colors and can be purchased relatively inexpensively.Adults can save money by making their own finger paints using a mixture of cornstarch, food coloring and water.
It is a common fallacy that finger painting is for children alone; rather it's an activity that can be enjoyed by adults in equal measure.Adults can use rubber gloves while painting to avoid dirty marks of paints on their hands. When a group of people are gathered for an exercise of finger painting, it can be a great way of creating a bond between the group.Art and painting parties are a popular concept in the West.Organizations can also use finger painting as a team building activity by making participants paint together on a large canvas.
There's no limit to the expression of feelings in finger painting. All one needs to do is go all out and put all their feelings on a piece of paper by dipping their fingers in paints. While painting, one may unconsciously choose colors that reflect their emotions. For example, you may choose the color red to express your anger or green to express hope.At times you may be confused, and the painting will help you describe your confused state of mind.Once you get your emotions on paper, you are likely to feel relieved.
So what are you waiting for Plan a finger painting session soon, and experience the joy.

In many people's eyes, artist Mark Rothko's enormous paintings are nothing more than masses of color.Yet, a painting can be worth nearly D|S100 million.Besides, Pablo Picasso's twisted faces attract some viewers but terrify others.
Why does the phenomenon happen The answer may lie in our brain networks.Researchers have now developed an algorithm that can predict art preference by analyzing how a person's brain breaks down visual information and decides whether a painting is “good”.The findings show for the first time how basic features of a painting combine with human judgment to give art value in our minds.
Most people, including researchers, consider art preference to be various, says Anjan Chatterjee, a neurologist (神经科医生) at the University of Pennsylvania who was not involved in the study. In some cases, personal preference is rooted in biology. For instance, sugary foods help us survive. And people tend to share similar standards of beauty when it comes to human faces and landscapes. However, when it comes to art, we seem to care about and value relatively arbitrary (任意的) things, according to Chatterjee.
To figure out how the brain forms value judgments about art, neuroscientist Kiyohito ligaya and his colleagues first asked more than 1,300 volunteers on the website to rate a selection of 825 paintings from four Western types including impressionism, cubism, abstract art and color field painting.Volunteers were all over the age of 18, but researchers didn't give exact information about their familiarity with art or their ethnic or national origin.
The researchers revealed that paintings preferred by the same groups of people tended to share certain visual characteristics. These characteristics all fell into two categories:“Low level” characteristics, like contrast and color, were intrinsic (固有的) to an image; “High level” characteristics, like the emotion a painting brought about, required human understanding.Once the method was trained, it could analyze these characteristics in new paintings and accurately predict which works a person would like.
12.What do the cases in paragraph 1 mainly indicate
A.The value of different works of art.
B.The characteristics of different artists.
C.The importance of facial appearances.
D.The differences in people's appreciation of beauty.
13.Which of the following ideas may Anjan Chatterjee support

A.The identity of the participants.
B.The background of the paintings.
C.The wide range of paintings.
D.The national origin of the participants.

Normally, Levi greeted the bus driver, Larry Farrish, with his usual cheerful smile and a warm wave.He was always the first to board the bus, excited to start the day ahead with his friends. However, on this particular day, Levi's behaviour was strikingly different.
As the bus came to the scheduled station, Levi slowly made his way onto the vehicle, his head bowed and his steps heavy.Farrish, who had come to expect Levi's bright smile and enthusiastic greeting, couldn't help but notice the change in the boy's manner. He watched as Levi took his usual seat at the back of the bus, his shoulders sunk and his eyes fixed on the floor.
Farrish, a kind and considerate man, couldn't bear to see Levi's sadness. As he drove the bus through the familiar route, he considered what could be causing the boy's sufferings. He knew that Levi was a happy and outgoing child, so the sudden change was puzzling. He felt it a must to figure out the source of the little boy's depression.
As the bus neared Levi's school, Farrish turned around in his seat, gently called Levi out and inquired about what was wrong. The boy looked up, his eyes red and swollen from crying.Levi hesitated for a moment, and then whispered in a quiet voice, “I forgot my pajamas for Pajama (睡衣) Day.” Farrish's heart sank.He knew how much Levi had been looking forward to Pajama Day, a special event at his school where students could come dressed in their comfortable pajamas and enjoy a relaxing atmosphere. It was a day that Levi had talked about for weeks, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to show off his pajamas.
Now, however, his excitement had turned into disappointment. He had simply forgotten to pack his pajamas, and as a result, he would be unable to participate in the festivities.Farrish could see sadness stand on Levi's face, and he knew that he had to do something to help relieve the boy's pain.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。
Waving goodbye, Farrish decided to take action.
