As I watched my son Nathan play basketball for his high school team, I was starting to feel sorry for myself and for him.His team was facing adversity on the court and he was playing in a hostile environment — it was the competitors' home gym filled with their supporters, and Nathan's team was trailing (落后) for three quarters of the game.As for me, I had been fired from my job earlier in the day.
During my drive home, I kept telling myself that I would find work again in a short time — I am confident in my experience and abilities. This is the same belief as I tried to teach my son.
The basketball game entered the fourth quarter with Nathan's team still trailing.I saw the determination on his, as well as his teammates' faces as they fought back to not only tie with the other team, but then go ahead by three points. Then,a player from the other team made an unbelievable shot to tie the score again. With the game in a tie and few seconds on the clock, Nathan found himself with the ball and with skills and confidence, he proceeded to make a basket with a defender hanging all over him.The defender was warned for a foul (犯规).
As Nathan stood at the foul line preparing for a shot that would make his team three points ahead, I saw the determination on his face. There was no room for self doubt.Nathan was able to tune_out_ all the distractions and nail the free throw with such skill. It was as if he had done it a thousand times.
As I sat there, my heart bursting with pride, it dawned on me.I had taught him perseverance in the face of adversity, and he had just taught me the same lesson. That brief moment of self doubt and feeling sorry for myself was blown away by the actions of my son on the basketball court. He will play in the finals, and it doesn't matter if he wins or loses. At this moment, we both won.

Thinking of getting your child to take up a sport that involves (牵涉) a coach or instructor Good news: A new study finds that children who take part in organized physical activity at a young age are less likely to have emotional difficulties by the time they turn 12.
“The elementary school years are a key time in child development,” said Frederic N.Brier, a psycho education professor who led the study, published this month in Pediatric Research.“And every parent wants to raise a well adjusted child.”
Researchers followed a birth group over time to examine whether continual participation in organized sport from 6 to 10 would lower risks related with emotional distress (情绪困扰), anxiety, shyness, social pullback at the age of 12.Their goal was to test this question as critically as possible by eliminating (排除) pre existing child or family conditions that could offer an alternative explanation.
To do this, Brier and his team examined data from a group of children born in 1997 or 1998 who are part of the Quebec Longitudinal Study of Child Development. From age 6 to 10, mothers reported whether their children participated in organized physical activity. At the age of 12, teachers reported on the children's levels of emotional distress, anxiety, shyness, and social pullback at school.
“The results revealed that children who participated frequently from 6 to 10 showed fewer instances of those factors at the age of 12 than their peers who did not join in physical activity in a continual way,” said Brier.“We found these benefits above and beyond pre existing individual and family characteristics.”
“Getting kids actively involved in organized sport seems to promote global development. This involvement appears to be good on a socio emotional level and not just because of physical benefits.Being less emotionally distressed at the key stage between elementary and high school is a priceless benefit for children, as they are about to enter a much larger universe with bigger academic challenges. This research supports current parental guidelines promoting children's involvement in physical activity,” Brier concluded.
8.Why did Brier's team follow a birth group over time
A.To check their health.
B.To test their guess.
C.To learn about their study.
D.To find out suitable sports.

A.By analyzing data.
B.By doing survey on teachers.
C.By doing experiments.
D.By organizing physical activities.
10.What does Brier think of the results
A.They are of little value.
B.They need further testing.
C.They are against their guess.
D.They are up to his expectation.
11.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.It's easy to raise a well adjusted child
B.Organized sport promotes emotional difficulties
C.School education is critical for child development
D.Sticking to organized sport can help kids adjust

“Everyone should have the chance to play” is the idea behind All Terrain (地形) Georgia, a program that offers free all terrain wheelchairs at Georgia's parks to those with physical disabilities.Being in the woods, fishing, or having a picnic at one of Georgia's state parks can help those people feel normal again. This is a cooperation program between the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Aimee Copeland Foundation.
All terrain wheelchairs look like an advanced version of everyday wheelchairs. They have a tank like appearance, and their wheels are bigger. And bigger engines make them have more power to cross terrain quickly. Most importantly, these chairs are specially designed to make them reliably cross terrain that's rough, wet, sandy or snowy. Therefore, they can give people who might not be able to cross more difficult types of terrain the ability to start a trip.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 11.1% of US adults have serious difficulty walking or climbing steps. And yet, the most wheelchair friendly national park in the country, South Dakota's Badlands National Park, has only 3 roads out of 17 suitable for wheelchairs.Besides, traditional wheelchairs can be risky, uncomfortable, and difficult to use in the park, not to mention the fact that the price of some all terrain wheelchairs can be between $13,000 and nearly $30,000.
Now, as long as you complete a form and meet the requirements, you can book an all terrain wheelchair and use it for free at one of the cooperative state parks in Georgia.Do remember you need to have an adult around you during the trip. The adult must undergo a training program, carry a fully charged phone and be physically capable of seeking help, if necessary, by returning quickly to the place where the chair was checked out.
Last year, a number of all terrain wheelchairs were put into service at 11 state parks and historic sites through All Terrain Georgia.Looking ahead, Melanie Dunn, the assistant director of the Aimee Copeland Foundation, said, “The foundation will soon have the ability to move the chairs to many other parks.Everyone deserves the chance to get close to nature and we can help them do it.”
12.What may users value most about all terrain wheelchairs
A.Their ability to run on challenging terrain safely.
B.The convenience of avoiding heavy traffic.
C.The creative idea behind them.
D.Their cool appearance.
13.Why is South Dakota's Badlands National Park mentioned
A.To praise the park's user friendly design.
B.To recommend the national park to the public.
C.To show the shortage of wheelchair friendly public services.
D.To call on the government to build more special roads.
14.What do the instructions on the program in paragraph 4 suggest
A.It allows free visits to most national parks.
B.It is aimed at a risk free user experience.
C.It sets difficult training tasks for users.
D.It works better for adult users.
15.What is Dunn's attitude towards the future of all terrain wheelchairs
A.Doubtful. B.Worried.
C.Curious. D.Positive.

Running has always been a big part of my life.It was an easy and cheap way to stay healthy when I was a teenager and at university. As I got older, I kept running though I took on the responsibilities of being a mom, having a job and other hobbies.Running was a fun activity that I could do quickly and then get back to my busy day.
When I moved to a new city, I was excited about trying new foods, visiting new places, meeting new people and having new experiences. But, I also felt lonely and really wanted to make new friends.I joined a book club and a dinner group. But after a few months, I still felt like I hadn't made any close friends.
One day, someone asked me if I wanted to run in a half marathon.Without thinking, I said, “Sure, count me in!” A half marathon is 13.1 miles, which is a lot longer than the three miles I usually ran.I was a bit scared, but also excited.
After the shock wore off, I started to learn everything about running a half marathon.I even bought my first pair of really good running shoes. They were the most expensive shoes I'd ever owned.I was ready to start training with them.
My new running friends picked me up at my house, and we started to jog together.I took it slow at first, running one mile, then two. They taught me how to run properly and how to drink enough water.I learned new words like carb loading, strides, and electrolytes.I slowly built up to running three, four and five miles.Running seven miles straight felt like climbing a really high mountain, and I started to love the feeling I got after a long run.

第二节(参考范文)
The day of the race finally came.I stood at the starting line, my heart pounding with excitement and nerves. The announcer counted down, and then the race began.I took off at a sprint, my legs pumping and my arms swinging as I tried to find my rhythm. As I ran, I could feel the sweat starting to bead on my forehead. The sun beat down on me, but I pushed through, focusing on the sound of my breath and the rhythm of my feet hitting the pavement.I passed other runners, feeling a surge of excitement each time I passed someone. As I approached the final stretch, I gave it everything I had left.My legs felt like lead, but I pushed through the pain.I could see the finish line in the distance, and it fueled my determination.
All the training I had done was now paying off.I crossed the finish line first! The crowd cheered me up as I crossed the finish line, and I collapsed to the ground, exhausted but delighted.Everyone applauded for me and congratulated me on winning the game.A feeling of excitement and satisfaction seized me.I was really grateful for the tremendous changes that running had brought to my body and mind.
