在复合句中,修饰 或 的从句叫定语从句。被修饰的名词或代词叫 ,引导定语从句的词叫 。关系词包括关系 和关系 。

一、关系代词与关系副词的选用
如何确定关系词: 一找从句
(分析从句的成分) 二划先行词
三定关系词 ①作主/宾/定/表语→关系代词
②作状语→关系副词
Eg: This is the factory he used to work.
Eg: This is the factory I visited last year.
二、定语从句关系副词的用法
(1)当引导定语从句的关系词在从句中用作时间、地点、原因状语时,应使用关系副词when, where, why或 “介词+which”。
(2)关系副词的作用如下:
1.指代表示时间、地点、原因的先行词。
2.在从句中充当句子成分——状语,即在从句中起副词的作用。
3.起连接作用,把主句和定语从句连接起来构成主从复合句。
三、关系副词引导定语从句
(1)when引导定语从句
when表示时间,代替先行词并在定语从句中做时间状语,其先行词往往是表示时间的名词,如time, day, year, month, week, moment, occasion, age, period, stage等。
Eg: I’ll never forget the day when I joined the team .
练习:
①I’ll never forget the day I lived in the mountains.
②I’ll never forget the day I spent in the mountains.
(2)where引导定语从句
where表示地点,代替先行词并在定语从句中做地点状语,其先行词往往是具体地点place, room, mountain, airport或抽象地点的名词如case, state, condition, point, situation等。
Eg: The school where my son studies is near a park.
Eg:They have reached the point where they have to separate with each other.
练习:
①This is the house he was born.
②This is the house was set up by his parents.
(3)why引导定语从句的用法
why表示原因,代替先行词并在定语从句中做原因状语,其先行词是表示理由的名词reason。
Eg: Do you know the reason why he is so upset
练习:
①This is the reason he was late.
②This is the reason he told us for his being late.
(4)关系副词when, where, why引导定语从句时,关系副词也可用“介词+关系代词”代替。
1.when可以换成 “介词+which”。
I still remember the day. I came to Beijing on that day.
I still remember the day when (= ) I came to Beijing.
2.where可以换成 “介词+which”。
This is the hotel. They stayed in the hotel.
This is the hotel where (= ) they stayed. 这就是他们待过的旅馆。
3.why可以用for which来代替。
This is the reason. He left in a hurry for this reason.
This is the reason why (= ) he left in a hurry.这是他匆匆离开的原因。
四、介词+关系代词引导的定语从句
(1)关系代词的确定
当关系代词在定语从句中作介词的宾语时, 我们通常用“介词+关系代词”引导定语从句。先行词指物时,关系代词只能用which;先行词指人时, 用whom。
Eg: The man to whom you spoke is a teacher.
Eg: The city in which she lives is far away.
(2)介词的确定
1.看介词与先行词搭配。
I still remember the day I met her.
I will never forget the farm I worked with you.
The money you were to buy food is gone.
2.看定语从句中动词或形容词与介词的搭配。
Do you like the book she spent $10
Do you like the book she paid $10
He is the man you can believe.
The West Lake, Hangzhou is famous, is a beautiful place.
3.根据从句所表达的意义来确定。
Air, which man can’t live, is really important.
This is the man whom my brother has worked for ten years.
4.表示“所有”或“整体的一部分”时通常用介词“of”
He has two sons, both graduated from Peking University.
Tom wrote many children’s books, nearly half were about campus culture.
