Enric Sala is a former university professor, and quit the academic field to become a full-time environmental protector. In 2008, he founded Pristine Seas, a project that combines exploration, research, public policy and media to inspire the creation of ocean protection areas. It aims to protect at least 30% of the ocean by 2030 for the benefit of nature and humanity. Less than 8% is currently protected.
To date, the project has helped to create 29 of the largest ocean reserves on the planet, covering an area of over 6.9 million square kilometers, an area which is twice the size of India. The achievements are the result of Enric’s 36 trips across the globe, from the Southern Line Islands to Greenland and Alaska.
The ongoing ocean protection efforts show Enric’s lifelong passion. He says he admires a famous French filmmaker and undersea explorer. Growing up in Catalonia in the 1970s, he would sit in front of TV watching his hero every Sunday. He was fascinated by the amazing places, the brave underwater explorers and the wonderful creatures. All was what he wanted to do in his life.
Enric writes that in the last century alone, humans have removed over 90% of the ocean’s large fish, yet less than 8%of the ocean is under protection. It is possible to make the ocean continuously beneficial to people and the planet. All humans must do is rewild the sea. Enric writes that preserving the planet’s wild places, on land and in the ocean, is a matter of human survival and economic importance in his book, The Nature of Nature: Why We Need the Wild, published in 2020. The process of rewilding, or recovering and protecting natural processes, allows nature to do the hard work for us.
Mentioning the successes of wildlife recovery in Yellowstone National Park, Mozambique National Parks, and the Southern Line Islands, Enric adds that our natural world can be a lasting and strong engine of regeneration (再生), and that we just need to give it some space.
24. What is the goal of Pristine Seas by the year they set
A. To protect at least a third of the ocean.
B. To conserve a minimum of 30% of the ocean.
C. To document underwater species in Catalonia.
D. To build 29 of the largest ocean reserves on Earth.
25. What inspired Enric to devote himself to ocean protection
A. His dream of becoming a famous sea explorer.
B. His tiring experience as a university professor.
C. His passion for the unknown underwater world.
D. His admiration for what a French filmmaker did.
26. According to Enric, what is essential to hold the ocean’s benefits to humans
A. Rewilding the sea. B. Strengthening fishing activities.
C. Increasing ocean exploration. D. Educating people on marine life.
27. Why does Enric mention the example of the wildlife recovery successes
A. To highlight the importance of national parks.
B. To prove that nature can regenerate if given space.
C. To criticize the impact of human activities on wildlife.
D. To compare different methods of environmental protection.

Why did the cow go to Hollywood Because it wanted to be in the moo-vies! Get it Because “moo” is the sound a cow makes!
This is an example of a dad joke. Anyone can make a dad joke — you don’t have to be a parent. Most of the time it’s just a joke that uses a very obvious and predictable pun (双关语). Dad jokes are usually thought to be pretty harmless, and maybe even cause feelings of love.
And researchers have found that humor may actually be an important tool for parents. A team from the US wanted to find out more about the effect humor can have when it is used by parents when raising their children. More than 300 people aged between 18 and 45 took part in a survey. They were asked to say whether they agreed or disagreed with a number of statements about humor in parenting. These included their memories of whether humor was used by their own parents, and if they might use it with their own children.
More than 70% of the participants said they believed humor can be a useful tool in parenting. And 55% said that they had been raised by parents who used humor in their parenting. The study also found that people whose parents used humor were more likely to say they had a good relationship with their parents. Many participants even said they’d like to take a course to learn about how they could use humor in parenting.
So why does it work The researchers said family life can be stressful, and humor can be a good way to reduce stress levels in the home. But that doesn’t just mean telling more dad jokes—humor could be used instead of anger to relieve a stressful situation, for example.
28. How did the author introduce the phrase “dad joke”
A. By giving an example. B. By making a definition.
C. By explaining where to use it. D. By showing its hidden meaning.
29. In which aspect do researchers plan to figure out the function of humor
A. Family harmony. B. Social gatherings.
C. Parenting skills. D. Parenting stress.
30. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A. The benefits of using humor in education.
B. Different types of humor used by parents.
C. The disadvantages of humor in family relationships.
D. Participants’ views on the use of humor in parenting.
31. What might be talked about in the following paragraph
A. How humor deals with pressure. B. What effect humor has on home.
C. Which humor should be stressed. D. Why humor makes people happy.

We’ve launched so many satellites into space that we now have a huge orbital waste problem. The European Space Agency (ESA) noted that over 6,600 tons of space waste is currently floating in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
Space waste consists of various small things. Some are objects created when a payload (the equipment carried by a spacecraft or satellite) explodes or crashes into another in space. Some are objects intentionally launched during the functioning of a payload, such as covers for light-sensing instruments. Rocket bodies, or the orbital stages of launch vehicles and protective shields (盾) and engines also add to the problem.
Even tiny pieces of space waste, as small as a millimeter wide, can cause serious damage to spacecraft and satellites. According to Tiago Soares, lead engineer of ESA’s Clean Space Office, a one-centimeter piece of waste has the energy of a bomb. There are at least 1.2 million objects larger than one centimeter speeding around our orbit right now. Each of these can crash into something else, and risk creating hundreds more pieces of waste in a chain reaction, which we call the Kessler effect. In 2024, there were several major fragmentation (碎裂) events, and several smaller ones. This has led to a large increase in objects in one year, with at least 3,000 new ones being tracked.
At present, there are no international space laws in place obliging waste to be cleaned up in LEO. However, space agencies like the ESA have rules and suggestions to cut down the making of space waste. The ESA plans to use the ClearSpace-1 spacecraft to take the suitcase-sized PROBA-1 satellite out of orbit in 2028.
If these plans actually work out, they’ll be among the first real space waste cleanup missions ever. However, making greater efforts to clear even a small part of the huge amount of waste in LEO will be difficult, and take ages. Hopefully, as launches continue to become cheaper and more accessible, we’ll see more waste removal in orbit.
32. What can be inferred about the creation of space waste
A. It is partially due to human activities.
B It is a result of natural disasters in space.
C. It is mainly caused by outdated satellites.
D. It primarily originates from private space companies.
33. What does the Kessler effect refer to
A. A kind of energy released by tiny pieces of space waste.
B. A chain reaction where space waste gets new energy.
C. A creation of new space missions to clean space waste.
D. A chain reaction where space waste creates more waste.
34. What does the underlined word “obliging” in paragraph 4 mean
A. Requiring. B. Forbidding. C. Permitting. D. Selecting.
35. What can be the best title for the text
A. The Causes of Space Waste
B The Kessler Effect and Its Impact
C. The Growing Problem of Space Waste
D. The Danger of Cleaning Up Space Waste

Have you had trouble concentrating on tasks or getting things done Here are four helpful ways to improve your focus and help you reach the finish line.
Take a deep breath
____36____. When you’re stressed, your attention narrows. The fight-or-flight response starts working. Your heart beats a little faster, and you might get a little sweaty because you’re anxious. So if something requires your full attention, take a breath and calm your body down. It is your body’s response to that stress that’s causing the limitation in attention.
Allow your mind to wander
If you are finding it hard to focus, take a break and allow your mind to wander into what’s called the default mode (默认模式) network. ____37____. It’s the place where our minds find innovation and creativity and often make better decisions than the focused mind. Get yourself there with something called positive constructive daydreaming. Try traveling with your mind to someplace enjoyable — maybe it’s a walk through an imaginary forest or sunbathing on a warm, sandy beach. Free your mind for about 20 minutes of this fun and watch what happens.
____38____
You should set some limitations if you often find yourself wasting time on social media, and it’s making you feel stressed and ashamed. Try turning off push notifications (推送通知) and removing social media apps from your phone to create natural obstacles to accessing them. ____39____.
Remember your time is precious
Think about all the people and things you consider most important — your friends and your hobbies. ____40____. Are the lists the same Do you keep putting off learning to play a new song because social media won’t stop drawing your attention If you’re just giving away the only precious thing you have, make sure you spend it wisely.
A. This is where magic happens
B. Pick what you currently have
C. Stress can affect your ability to focus
D. Get rid of what takes your attention away
E. If they’re not enough, use some tools to help you
F. Only in this way can you fix your mind on something creative
G. Then think about who and what you actually spend your time on

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
To escape the hot and humid weather in South Carolina, I used to explore a state in the north or west every summer. In early 2020, I planned a trip to the Black Hills in South Dakota and arrived there on June 23rd, not knowing I was about to have an adventure.
The most exciting part of my adventure in South Dakota happened on July 5th in Custer. I woke up at 3:47 am, crawled out of my sleeping bag, and ate an energy bar. Then I walked to a hot air balloon company in downtown Custer for a 5 am meeting. There, I met other sleepy tourists who were there for the same reason as me. After filling out some paperwork and paying the fees, we got into a car and were taken to a field, followed by four trucks full of colorful materials.
In the field, I got out of the car and watched as four colorful hot air balloons were fitted and inflated (充气). A few minutes later, I climbed into a basket along with other passengers. The basket was divided into four sections around the pilot in the center. Two couples and a family were in the other sections.
However, all good things had to come to an end. From the pilot’s radio, I learned that due to a sudden change in the weather, the wind became unstable, and we needed to find a safe place to land quickly.
We seemed to be descending (下降) very fast. I noticed the pilot struggling against the wind. He was constantly adjusting the burner and the parachute vent (伞阀) to control the balloon’s descent speed, but the strong wind made it difficult. As we continued to descend, he said, “Everyone, I need you to sit down, face backward, and cover your heads.” We followed his instructions.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The basket shook violently back and forth.

Discover the Local Charm
If you ever visit my city, don’t miss the chance to try our famous Braised Pork Belly, a dish that perfectly represents the local flavor.
This traditional delicacy has a history of over 300 years. What makes it special is the unique cooking method: the pork is cooked slowly with soy sauce, sugar, and several secret spices for hours. The result is tender meat that melts in your mouth, with a rich yet not greasy taste. More than just food, it carries family warmth. Every festival, families cook it together, sharing stories while waiting. It’s a symbol of love and tradition passed down through generations.
Come and taste it — you’ll understand why it’s loved by both locals and visitors
第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】One possible version:
The basket shook violently back and forth. We were thrown from side to side as the balloon bounced across the uneven ground. I kept my head covered and held tightly to the edge, feeling the impact with every jolt. One couple cried out, but I focused on staying low and bracing myself. The pilot shouted calm instructions, reminding us not to stand until he gave the all-clear. Dust and grass flew into the air, making it hard to breathe. Finally, the movement slowed, and the balloon came to a stop, half-collapsed on its side.
