A QUICK GUIDE TO GUEST FEEDING OF WILD DOLPHINS
Prepare to get wet
To feed the dolphins, you’ll need to walk into at least knee-deep water. So wear shorts or swimwear, or hire waders (waterproof overalls) from the stand in front of the Eco Centre. $ 2 from each rental is donated to the EcoMarines.
Do not touch the dolphins
Not only may you make the dolphins feel uncomfortable or harm them, but this is a requirement of the Queensland Government. Break this rule and you’ll be asked to leave immediately.
Precautions (预防措施)
If you have a cold, flu or respiratory (呼吸道的) illness, you are not permitted to feed the dolphins. Pregnancy women are not allowed to enter the water beyond their knees.
Wild dolphin viewing & wild dolphin feeding access
Please note that temporary visitors to Moreton Island are not allowed access to the resort areas for the nightly dolphin viewing or feeding experience. All guests that are authorized to stay overnight at properties within the grounds of the resort have general admission access to the dolphin viewing areas each evening. Only guests who have booked official day trips and select overnight stays with Tangalooma Island Resort will be able to participate in the nightly dolphin feeding program, but only if it was included in your original package. Consult your confirmation documents to confirm your access.
Wild Dolphin Feeding is dependent on dolphin attendance, weather conditions & tides, therefore their arrival cannot always be guaranteed; however over the last 3 decades of the program, we have experienced a 99% attendance rate.

Isaac Woodhouse, an Australian teen, could achieve an NFL (美国国家橄榄球联盟) achievement never defeated by anyone outside the US or Canada. Melbourne’s Isaac Woodhouse has grabbed the attention of talent scouts (星探) who believe the 19-year-old has what it takes to become the first Australian to become a quarterback (四分卫) in the NFL. Despite playing just 10 matches, the former Xavier College student on Friday flew to the US hoping to follow in the footsteps of American football greats such as seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.
Isaac Woodhouse never played quarterback for a division I US school, let alone the NFL, but colleges known for American football are said to be interested in the 1.98m tall, 105kg heavy teen.
“It’s a bit unique — I’m hoping to be the first quarterback to ever do it from Australia,” Woodhouse said. “Obviously there have been some Australian athletes who have gone over there and done pretty well, and they have had some success. But I’m hoping to clear the way for some quarterbacks and other skill positions.”
Woodhouse told the Herald Sun he resolved to make history as top US colleges competed for his services. Woodhouse said that it had all happened really quickly but all he could do was learn along the way, try his best and see how it went.
His coach Glenn Parke, a quarterback for Victoria for 22 years, said, “US scouts have been taking notice as Woodhouse chased his NFL dream. Not only would he be the first Australian, but he would be the only non-North American to ever do it. So this is the rare air, extremely rare and exceptional kind of stuff that could happen if things go well for him.”
4. Why did Isaac Woodhouse fly to the US
A. To pursue his American football dream.
B. To pay a visit to Tom Brady.
C. To visit some American colleges.
D. To express gratitude to the talent scouts.
5. Which is right about Isaac according to paragraph 3
A. He believes he’s the top player in Australia.
B. He thinks little of Australian athletes.
C. He is willing to make contributions to the whole team.
D. He desires to beat all American players.
6. Which words can best describe Woodhouse
A. Ambitious and determined. B. Talented and imaginative.
C. Humorous and patient. D. Strong-willed and creative.
7. What do Glenn Parke’s words mean in the last paragraph
A. Success for Woodhouse is not tough.
B. Only Australians can do rare wonders.
C. Woodhouse has no chance to succeed.
D. Woodhouse’s success would be extraordinary.

Wind power is one of the best sources of renewable energy and it is providing power around the globe. In some countries, the use of renewables is more than that of traditional fuels in producing electricity.
Once, wind power was only available to large companies and governments with access to large areas of land for wind farms. That’s because wind power made use of large structures with massive wind turbines (涡轮机). But now, small-sized wind turbines are available to help power private homes.
There are two types of micro wind turbines available to private customers. The first is a roof-mounted turbine and the second is a stand-alone one. The advantage of a roof-mounted turbine is that the wind turbine can catch the wind easily, and can be fixed in just a few hours. A roof-mounted turbine can generate between 0.5 kilowatts (千瓦) and 2.5 kilowatts per hour a day. Stand-alone turbines, on the other hand, are more powerful than roof-mounted ones, but are more complicated, and take longer to fix. A stand-alone turbine can produce 15 kilowatts per hour a day, which is enough to power most homes.
A French company created a small turbine called the Aeroleaf. Aeroleaf turbines are designed to look like a curled leaf, and can be used in private homes, public parks, and places of business. As the wind blows, the leaves turn like dancers. They are often fixed in groups, and hung on equipment referred to as wind trees or wind bushes. These beautiful equipment, which comes in many different colors, looks like sculptures.
Micro turbines provide one more way for private households to mitigate their reliance on the electric network, and hence use fewer traditional fuels. While their function is primarily practical, they can also be a fun, strange, and beautiful addition to any household or private or public space. This just goes to show that saving the planet need not be dull or ugly, but can also be a lovely way to beautify the world.
8. Why was wind power once limited
A. It needed large land areas. B. Its turbines were too heavy.
C. Its structures were very complex. D. It was not environmentally friendly.
9. What is the advantage of stand-alone turbines
A. They can be fixed in several hours.
B. They are sufficient to power most households.
C. They turn wind power into electric energy better.
D. They are convenient to move around.
10. What does the underlined word “mitigate” in paragraph 5 probably mean
A. Increase. B. Maintain. C. Lower. D. Remove.
11. What is the best title for the text
A Micro Wind Turbines Are Taking Off
B. Different Wind Turbines Are Clearly Contrasted
C. Aeroleaf Turbines Combine Beauty with Function
D. Private Households Gain Significantly from Wind Power
D
For the first time in Canada, surgeons have successfully carried out the first stage of a procedure involving implanting (植入) a tooth into the eyes of people with a type of severe blindness in the hopes of restoring their vision.
Known as “tooth-in-eye” surgery, the operation was recently carried out in three patients with severe corneal (角膜的) blindness. Tooth-in-eye surgery aims to change that in two surgeries. This first step is the creation of the implant. This requires the removal of one of the patient’s teeth, which is shaved down into a square-like shape with a hole drilled into it that will hold a plastic optical lens (光学透镜). The shaped tooth is then placed inside the patient’s cheek, where it stays for around three months to develop new tissue and a blood supply.
Once that’s happened, in the second stage, surgeons remove the implant from the cheek and put it into the eye, where the plastic lens allows light through, restoring the patient’s vision. “It’s like replacing the windscreen on a car when it’s totally frosted over,” Dr Greg Moloney, who led the Canadian surgeries, told the Vancouver Sun.
It might sound a bit unpleasant to put someone’s tooth in their eye, but it actually makes a lot of sense; both the fact that teeth are super hard and that it’s the patient’s own tooth increase the chances that the implant will last long term. “The procedure isn’t completely risk-free, but there is no risk of rejection, because we’re using part of the patient’s own body.”
The patients are set to experience the second surgery later this year. One of those patients, Gail Chapman, was the first to receive the initial surgery and was hopeful of what the procedure could mean for her future. While this was a Canadian first, tooth-in-eye surgery is far from new. It’s been around since the 1960s, when it was pioneered by Italian Professor Benedetto Strampelli, and was later improved into the procedure that it is today.
12. What is involved in the first stage of the “tooth-in-eye” surgery
A. Placing the plastic lens in the eye.
B. Restoring the patient’s eyesight partly.
C. Removing a patient’s tooth for the implant.
D. Moving the implant from the cheek to the eye.
13. What is the key role of the plastic optical lens in the second-stage surgery
A. To fix the tooth in the eye. B. To help the eye receive light.
C. To reduce the pain of the patient. D. To accelerate the treatment process.
14. Why does the surgery use the patient’s own tooth
A. To simplify the surgical procedure.
B. To reduce the risk of implant rejection.
C. To lower the cost of the entire surgery.
D. To make the implant look more natural.
15. What does the author think of the “tooth-in-eye” surgery
A. The surgery has been improved a little.
B. There is a serious danger of infection during the surgery.
C. The surgery will become popular in Canada.
D. The surgery dates back over fifty years.

Last summer, a group of high-school students, including Lily, Tom, and Jack, participated in an environmental protection camp in a small coastal town. The town was famous for its beautiful beaches, but recently, it had been suffering from severe pollution due to the large amount of plastic waste washed up on the shore.
On the first day of the camp, the instructor, Mr. Green, took them to the beach. What they saw was shocking. The once-clean sand was covered with all kinds of plastic items, from bottles and bags to broken toys. “This is the result of our inappropriate use of plastic,” Mr. Green said seriously. “Our goal this week is to clean up this beach and raise people’s awareness of environmental protection.”
The students immediately got to work. They divided into several groups, each equipped with gloves and large trash bags. Lily and her group were responsible for the northern part of the beach. As they picked up the plastic waste, they were disappointed by the amount of it. “How could people be so irresponsible ” Lily complained angrily. Tom, who was in the same group, sighed, “It seems like an endless task, but we have to do something.”
After hours of hard work, they managed to fill dozens of trash bags. However, they knew that this was just a solution for a short time, not permanent. They needed to find a more effective way to prevent the plastic pollution. That evening, they had a group discussion. Everyone shared their ideas. Jack suggested organizing a community-wide campaign to encourage people to reduce plastic use. Some students thought it was a good idea, but others were worried that it might not attract enough attention.

【答案】Dear Jim,
Glad to hear you’re preparing a speech on wildlife protection. Here’s some information.
Currently, many wild animals are endangered due to habitat loss, illegal hunting, and climate change. For example, species like tigers and elephants face rapid population decline. Urgent action is needed!
To protect them, governments should strengthen laws against poaching and expand nature reserves. Additionally, raising public awareness through education is vital. Everyone can help by supporting eco-friendly organizations or avoiding products from illegal wildlife trade.
Hope this helps! Good luck with your speech!
Yours,
Li Hua

【47题答案】
【答案】 Just then, Lily had an inspiration. “Why not use social media ” she said passionately. “We can create short and eye-catching videos about the beach pollution and our cleaning efforts. Then post them on platforms like TikTok. With the power of the Internet, we can reach a much wider audience.” The others were immediately excited about the idea. They spent the next few days filming the videos and appealing to people to take action. Tom, who was good at video editing, worked day and night to make the videos as attractive as possible.
The campaign turned out to be a huge success. Once the videos were uploaded, they went viral within a few days. Many people liked and shared them. The residents were deeply touched and decided to join the fight. Some businesses started to provide eco-friendly alternatives to plastic products. The students were overjoyed to see their small actions making such a big difference. They realized that with determination and creativity, they could contribute to protecting the environment.听力部分录音稿
