It's 1:30 am in Kenya's populated north, and 50 people are lying on their backs on the shore of a dried-up river, staring up at the night sky. These stargazers have travelled 250 miles to Samburu to witness the Perseid meteor shower(英仙座流星雨). They are not disappointed: Every few minutes, arrows of light shoot across the sky like silent fireworks.
The Star Safari is organised by a Kenyan astronomer, Susan Murabana, who has brought a 50kg,170cm-long telescope to allow the group to view Mars and deep-sky objects. But here in Samburu, where light pollution is minimal, the Perseid meteors—visible with the naked eye(肉眼)—steal the show.
Every two months, Murabana and her husband load their telescope onto the roof and set off for rural communities, where they give up to 300 children a chance to view the planets and learn about constellations(星座) and the basics of astrophysics. They primarily targets schools in remote areas because of her mission to give girls an opportunity that she wishes had been available to her.
“When I started this work, I didn't see people who looked like me. I was a lone ranger and I wanted to change that,” says Murabana.
“There is a common misconception in Kenya that astronomy in general is hard, boring, and only for boys,” she adds. “I'd like to teach young girls that astronomy is neither of these things and that they, too, can become astronomers,” says Murabana.
Murabana's passion for astronomy began in her early 20s when her uncle invited her to join a similar outreach session organized by the Cosmos Education. “That was a game changer. If an outreach group had come to me when I was a young teenager, my attitude towards a career in astronomy would have been positive. I ended up studying sociology and economics, but maybe I would have desired to be an astronomer,” she says.
Inspired by the Cosmos Education, Murabana completed an online master's degree in astronomy at James Cook University in 201l and set up her own outreach programme. She looked on Dr. Mae Jemison, the first black woman in space, as a role model. “I hope that one day, through this work, I will spark a chain reaction that leads to the first African woman in space.”
24.What do the underlined words “steal the show” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.Ruin the effort. B.Face the challenge.
C.Attract more attention. D.Keep the promise.

26.What can we learn about Murabana from Paragraph 6
A.She enjoyed playing games.
B.She longed to be an astronomer.
C.She is an initiator of Cosmos Education.
D.She regretted not taking astronomy earlier.
27.Which of the following can be the best title
A.The birth of a Kenyan woman astronomer

Super images from NASA show the Moon's South Pole in incredible detail. The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) used a ShadowCam(影子相机) to try and take high-resolution pictures. Pictures showed “features and terrain(地形) details that are not visible to LROC”.
Experts at the space organization were interested in the area around the Shackleton Crater because of suspected ice deposits(沉积物). Scientists believe layers of the ice deposits have existed on the Moon for millions or billions of years. The ice deposits could serve as an important resource for exploration because they are composed of hydrogen and oxygen. Those gases can be used for rocket fuel or life support systems. Areas like the Shackleton Crater are at an angle so parts of it are never exposed to sunlight. If a person were at the Moon's South Pole, the Sun would never rise or set and stay low on the horizon. The South Pole also provides near constant communication with Earth.
It comes as a NASA spacecraft that will fly Earth on Sunday. It's expected to drop off at least a cupful of rubble(碎石) it grabbed from the asteroid(小行星) Bennu. The sample capsule will land into the Utah desert. Its mother ship, the Osiris-Rex spacecraft, quickly leaves to encounter another asteroid. Sunday's landing marks the end of a 4 billion-mile journey that included reaching the carbon-rich asteroid Bennu. It successfully collected samples, and encountered challenges such as a jammed lid that led to some spillage in space.
It is hoped that findings from the study will help scientists figure out how to deflect(使偏转) Bennu. Bennu is set to dangerously strike Earth with the force of 24 atom bombs on September 24, 2182. The space rock, which is as big as the Empire State Building, swings close to our planet every six years. However, the agency says there is a 1 in 2,700 chance that it could strike Earth, with disastrous results.
28.What is the function of the first paragraph
A.To explain the meaning of LROC.
B.To lead to the main topic.
C.To describe the Moon's South Pole.
D.To present the importance of the ShadowCam.
29.What do we know from Paragraph 2
A.Ice deposits can be used for exploration.
B.Sunlight cannot reach the Shackleton Crater.
C.The Shackleton Crater is a popular tourist destination.
D.Ice deposits are found in the area around the Shackleton Crater.
30.What is the expected result of the NASA spacecraft that will fly Earth on Sunday
A.It will conduct new experiments in space.
B.It will test new technology for deep space exploration.
C.It will bring back a cup of rubble from the asteroid Bennu.
D.It will collect more ice deposits from the asteroid Bennu.
31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.The asteroid Bennu is rich in carbon.
B.Scientists can make the asteroid Bennu change its direction.
C.There's a strong possibility of Bennu striking Earth in the future.
D.The asteroid samples brought back by NASA are likely to have scientific research value.

A penny saved is a penny earned. And more and more penny-wise young Chinese are abandoning consumerism by leading an increasingly frugal(节俭的) life amid developing anti-consumerism concepts.
According to a survey by , nearly 50% of respondents would use all means to save money and more than 30% plan to become deal-hunters to fit in their budgets. More than 80% of Generation Z Chinese spend less than 5,000 yuan a month. When shopping, they care the most about practicality, personal preference and price, instead of brands, popularity and brand spokesmen.
And more than 600,000 users of Douban, a popular social media platform, have joined a group there named Frenzied Money Savers where members sometimes share extreme ideas, tips, books and everything to save hard-earned money. For instance, some recommended uninstalling shopping apps such as Taobao, Meituan and Pinduoduo and installing them each time you really need to buy something so as to hold back the urge to spend. And milk tea, coffee and takeout are strongly opposed by many.
Chinese have long established and valued the saving culture with the country's household savings rate leading the world. Young Chinese who are born in a relatively prosperous and abundant society have learned to get rid of the addiction to consumerism and use money in a more sensible and wiser way, which could help create a more healthy and upbeat social vibe(社会风气), besides reducing the huge waste and damage to the environment caused by over consumption.
Just as the American writer T. T. Munger said, the habit of saving is itself an education. Yet saving is certainly not the final goal, but spending money where it truly deserves helps realize one's life objectives. To save and spend wisely is a lesson young people all over the world have to learn.
32.Why are more and more young Chinese becoming penny-wise
A.They tend to accept consumerism.
B.They spend money without hesitation.
C.They are shaped by multiple cultures.
D.They are in favor of economical life.
33.What may Generation Z Chinese care the most about when shopping
A.Budgets and service.
B.Practicality and price.
C.Personal preference and brands.
D.Shopping apps and platforms.
34.What message does the author want to convey in Paragraph 4
A.Anti-consumerism is beneficial to social progress.
B.Saving money can be many people's life objective.
C.Many social issues mainly result from consumerism.
D.Young Chinese are lucky to be born in a prosperous society.
35.What is the text mainly about
A.There is no increasing need for consumerism.
B.The old virtue of being frugal is still not outdated.
C.Tips on saving money are important for the young.
D.Consumerism has an impact on economic development.

My friend James did some first-aid training at work last week to learn the fundamentals of CPR and he asked if I'd ever done the same. Yes, I've attended several CPR sessions over the years. And I've always come away with a wealth of information. But no, I don't exactly feel “trained” to save lives. 36. . Here's what I should have done—and what you can do now—to make sure any training doesn't go to waste.
Test yourself before you start.
You might be surprised to find that you've got some foundations of knowledge to build on. 37. .
Write questions as you learn.
38. . This can trick your memory into thinking that it doesn't have to work because the information is all stored in your notebook. Instead, write yourself questions for the future.
39. .
Wait a day, and then see how much you still know. If it's hard to remember, but just about possible with effort, then that's perfect. You need that little bit of struggle to start keeping information in your brain.
Keep coming back.
Put a note in your diary to test yourself again in a week, then ten days after that, then a month on... Use the questions you wrote on the day to keep challenging yourself.
Talking to James has inspired me to book myself yet another CPR course. 40. . Remember that it's the next day when the real training starts.
A.Challenge your recall later
B.Don't waste time making notes
C.But this time I'm determined to do it right
D.I've always taken it seriously and been focused
E.It was essential to take notes quickly and to pay attention
F.Practically nothing has ever made it to my long-term memory
G.Pre-testing sparks your curiosity and puts you in a frame of mind to remember

第二节 (满分25分)
  阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was 3 a.m. when the flood came on an unseasonably warm night in June. Rocks were heard breaking. Susan Roberts, new to Red Lodge, Montana, a small town of 2,300 people, woke from an uneasy sleep. She saw the lights on at her across-the-way neighbors', on the side bordering Rock Creek, a 55-mile river skirting the town's eastern edge.
Roberts's next-door neighbor, a police officer, was evacuating(撤离) with his four kids, and he advised Roberts to do the same. So she put her dogs in the car and moved it to an narrow street behind her home, about 10 feet uphill, as her husband went from house to house, waking others. It was still dark; people were sleeping and didn't realize. More people went to each other's doors, saying, “Wake up and you have to get out.”
The couple stayed in their car and on the few feet of dry land surrounding it for the entirety of the next day, watching their house ruined. Trees were washed down the town's main street. Cars floated away. Floods ruined the Beartooth Highway, a major road connecting Red Lodge to Billings. “The town looked like a riverbed,” says Roberts. “The whole community was wandering around, trying to grasp what happened.”
The day after the flood, more than 20 people, friends, neighbors, strangers, even tourists flocked(群集) to help. “People went into our wet, muddy basement and pulled everything out,” says Roberts. “They sorted and took things home to wash. One person came to clean up our yard. A mother and her two young children pulled rubbish from our chain-link fence.” Helpers even saved her precious photo albums, drying each print before returning it to the book.
And volunteers kept coming every day until summer's end. “People would not take no for an answer. If I was like, ‘Oh, we're OK now,’ they'd be like, ‘No, I'm gonna do something,’” she says.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Soon, all over town, people took action jointly to clean up the whole mess.

More than a year later, Red Lodge began to take on a new look.

第一节
A
语篇解读 本文是一篇应用文。文章主要介绍了哥斯达黎加当地动物救援中心的志愿者需要完成的工作以及成为志愿者需要满足的条件和支付的费用。
21.A 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“In addition to the caretaking of the animals, volunteers help us welcome visitors at the entrance and answer any questions that visitors may have about the shelter or its animals.”可知,志愿者还帮助在入口处欢迎访客,并回答访客可能提出的关于收容所或动物的问题,故选A。
22.C 细节理解题。根据Requirements部分中的“You need to be at least 15 years old on the program start date at the high school level or above. Speaking English is a basic requirement. No restrictions on nationality. Helping hands both in Costa Rica and beyond are welcome. Your helping hand will be required from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.”
故选A。
难句分析
原句 Not only does this shelter take in homeless animals, but also wild animals which are in bad condition.
分析 本句是not only位于句首的倒装句,转换为陈述句语序后应为“This shelter takes in not only homeless animals but also wild animals which are in bad condition.”;其中,which引导定语从句,修饰wild animals。
译文 这个收容所不仅收容流浪的动物,还收容状态不好的野生动物。
