These days, seemingly everyone is creating their own business. People are talking about entrepreneurship as if once you start your own business, everything will flow smoothly for the rest of your life. Unfortunately, this is rarely the case.
My story of building resilience (复原力) in business began when I was an employee years ago, tired of working for someone else. I wanted to start my own business, so as a musician myself, I came up with the concept of helping other musicians with their business.
It was not an easy time. I had to count pennies to feed myself. But slowly, through word-of-mouth spread, not only among musicians, but small businesses as well, I was developing a client base. After years of hard work, eventually my company now serves 500 companies.
As a musician, I decided to create a music and film project called X: The Human Condition. It was my message in a bottle—you are not alone. I wanted to inspire people who felt disconnected, alienated, different.
I had to fund it myself because out of all the people I approached in the entertainment industry, they all said it would be impossible and nobody wanted to invest. But I was determined to prove them wrong. Over 12 years, I struggled to get the project off the ground. I almost went broke and became so ill that I nearly lost my vision permanently. I overcame every obstacle that was put in front of me, and after 12 years I was able to release the project successfully. The experiences with adversity led me to create the website, Rise UpAgain.org, a community of people from all over the world overcoming difficulties and sharing their stories to inspire others.
When it comes to entrepreneurship, expect the unexpected. Regardless, be aware that there is no shortcut to building resilience. Mastering adversity is one thing that must be learned through trial and error. But the important thing to note is that when you do go through adversity, never think of it as your enemy, but think of it as your ally.
24.What can we learn about the author
A.He was a successful musician. B.He longed to be a boss.
C.He changed his career path. D.His business ran smoothly.
25.Why did the author start the project X: The Human Condition
A.To send a message in a bottle. B.To fund the homeless people.

26.What is the biggest challenge for the author to start his business
A.Health problems. B.Financial difficulty.
C.Lack of experience. D.Community objection.
27.What would the author say to new businessmen
A.Try to make some errors.
B.Get used to your expectation.
C.There is no shortcut to success.
D.Difficulties can make you tougher.
C
You're passed over for a job. Your back aches. Faced with difficulties large and small, you wonder if you're an unlucky person. We turned to experts to understand why we believe in luck and how we can have that belief to make changes in our attitude towards life.
Richard Wiseman, a psychology professor, doesn't believe there's anything magical about luck—it won't help you or hurt you. “On the other hand, considering yourself lucky or unlucky is a way of seeing yourself, which has an impact on how you behave and how you think, and becomes a kind of self-fulfilling anticipation,” he says. “So, in a sense, it absolutely does exist.”
The sociology lecturer Vik Loveday interviewed academic employees who were on temporary contracts, an uncertain situation that caused anxiety. In general, when these academics learned about good news concerning their careers, such as getting a permanent job, they would attribute it to luck. Because they felt they had so little control,a move in a positive direction happened almost by accident, rather than as the result of hard work.
In a 2021 study, Professor Woolley has looked at this idea in childhood and adulthood. For example, basketball player Michael Jordan would wear his college practice shorts under his National Basketball Association uniform for good luck. “Obviously, it is the superstitious (迷信的) custom that gives him confidence and then he plays better,” Woolley says.
Is it possible to change your attitude towards luck to get better outcomes Wiseman believes some steps can improve your luck. He has found “lucky people not only maximize opportunities and know where they're heading, but often change course depending on how the wind is going”. Lucky people can also transform bad experiences into good. Specifically, you can shift your focus towards the positive by keeping a “luck diary”. Also don't be a creature of habit. Watch a different TV program, speak to different people—even small shifts can be effective.
28.What does Wiseman say about luck in Paragraph 2
A.It might be wise to try one's luck.
B.Luck is a magical force to control us.
C.The belief in luck influences our behavior.
D.People's well-being is determined by luck.

A.Confirming Loveday's study.
B.Showing luck exists in real life.

D.Comparing a different kind of luck in sports.
30.How can we improve our luck according to the last paragraph
A.Getting into a routine. B.Sticking to a goal firmly.
C.Setting down terrible things. D.Making changes flexibly.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Less Anxiety, More Luck
B.Good or Bad Luck Up to You
C.One Can Stay Lucky Through Life
D.Genius—Mother of Good Luck
D
The Greek historian Herodotus reported over 2,000 years ago on a misguided experiment in which two children were prevented from hearing human speech so that a king could discover the true, unlearned language of human beings.
Scientists now know that human language requires social learning and interaction with other people, a property shared with multiple animal languages. But why should humans and other animals need to learn a language instead of being born with this knowledge
Given that the ways honeybees communicate are quite complex, we decided to study how they learn to communicate to answer this language question.
Bees possess one of the most complicated examples of nonhuman communication. They can tell each other where to find resources such as food, water, or nest sites with a physical “waggle (摇摆) dance”, by circling around in a figure eight pattern centered around a waggle run. This dance conveys the direction, distance and quality of a resource to the bee's nestmates.
Bees begin to dance only as they get older. Could they be learning from practiced teachers
We thus created isolated experimental colonies of bees (蜂群) that could not observe other waggle dances before they themselves danced. Like the ancient experiment described by Herodotus, these bees could not observe the dance language because they were all the same age and had no older, experienced bees to follow. In contrast, our control colonies contained bees of all ages, so younger bees could follow the older, experienced dancers.
We recorded the first dances of the bees. The bees that could not follow the dances of experienced bees produced dances with significantly more directional, distance and order errors than the dances of control bees.
We then tested the same bees later, when they were experienced dancers. Bees who had lacked teachers produced significantly fewer errors, possibly because they had more practice or had learned by eventually following other dancers. The dances of the control bees remained just as good as their first dances.
Complex communication is often difficult to produce even when individuals are born with some knowledge of the correct signals. Bees are born with some knowledge of how to dance, but they have to learn how to dance even better by following experienced bees.
32.Why does the author say the experiment on the two children is a misguided experiment
A.Language learning is a social activity.
B.Language learning has changed greatly.
C.Children are born with human speech.
D.Children develop differently in language.
33.What does the underlined word “isolated” in Paragraph 6 indicate
A.Old bees could not produce waggle dances.
B.Old bees could not observe waggle dances.
C.Young bees were separated from older ones.
D.Young bees could follow experienced bees.
34.What do we know about the bees whose dances remained as good as their first dances
A.They had little practice in waggle dances.
B.They had learned waggle dances without teachers.
C.They were experienced in teaching waggle dances.
D.They had learned waggle dances before their first dances.
35.What does the last paragraph serve as
A.A guide to complex communication.
B.An answer to why language should be learned.
C.An example of nonhuman communication.
D.A proof that bees are born with some knowledge.

Everyone knows about straight-A students. Many straight-A students actually put in fewer hours of homework time than their low-scoring classmates. Here are some secrets of the young study champions.
36.
Top students bear no breaks during study time. Once the books are open or the computer is booted up, phone calls go unanswered, TV shows unwatched, and snacks ignored. Study is business; business comes before recreation.
Get organized
Paul Melendres, a straight-A freshman from New Mexico, keeps two folders—one for the day's assignments, another for papers completed and graded. 37. Melendres' methods have actually proven effective. Even students who don't have a private study area remain organized to cut down time-wasting searches.
Clean up your act
Neat papers are likely to get higher grades than sloppy ones. “The student who turns in a neat paper,” says Claude Olney, an Arizona State University business professor, “is already on the way to an A. It's like being served a cheeseburger. 38. ”
Speak up
“If I don't understand what my teacher is explaining, I will ask him to repeat it,” says Christopher Campbell. Class participation goes beyond merely asking questions, though. 39. “Better academic grades come from better understanding,” says Campbell. “I don't want to memorize information for tests only.”
Test yourself
As part of her note-taking, Domenica Roman emphasizes points that she thinks may be covered during exams. 40. Later she gives herself a written examination before the test day. “If I can't answer the questions satisfactorily, I will go back and review the points,” she says.
A.Set priorities
B.Schedule your time
C.She designs test questions based on them.
D.It's a matter of showing intellectual curiosity.
E.A bag or drawer keeps essential supplies together.
F.Hard work isn't the whole story behind their academic grades.
G.You can't believe it tastes good if it's presented on a dirty plate.

Painting had always fascinated Bazan since she was born. At the age of two, she held her first art exhibition on the family refrigerator. “Your artworks are really unique! So, I assume you're as good as Leonardo da Vinci or anybody else,” said her mother, who had always been highly encouraging Bazan. Then, Bazan signed up for an art class and quickly discovered her natural talent, “To me, a canvas(画布) is a door to another world where I have full creative control,” Bazan used to say to her mother.
The year she turned five, however, she was diagnosed with mental anxiety. She struggled with focusing, paying attention, or sitting still. Her mother still supported her in learning art, though. Even with family support, finding the feeling in control had often been a horrific challenge for her.
Bazan attended the University of Kentucky in 2010, whose major was art education, but didn't connect with the prospect of teaching. It made her unhappy. “I just wasn't drawn to it as much,” she said. Confusion about her uncertain future, coupled with her increasingly severe illness, made her eventually drop out of college.
Life went on for a decade. Bazan had a son and moved to Sheboygan, far away from her parents. She worked in a local grocery. Every day after work, she rushed home to care for her son. Life was difficult. Soon after, she divorced her husband because of her bad condition.
As her son grew up, Bazan became restless, and reconsidered the meaning of life. She felt she couldn't give up on the calling of her art. “I love art,” she said. It occurred to her that she could learn different techniques—from sewing and spinning and weaving to printmaking or painting. She would discover a new path in her professional development, instead of being a salesclerk all her life.
After days of consideration, Bazan made a big decision.

News spread 4 years later that Bazan graduated from college with honors.

Para. 1
Paras.
Para. 5
根据第二段第一句“Scientists now know that human language requires social learning and interaction with other people, a property shared with multiple animal languages.” 故选A。
根据画线词后的“that could not observe other waggle dances before they themselves danced”可知,实验组的蜂群在自己起舞之前无法观察到其他的摇摆舞蹈。再根据后一句中的“Like the ancient experiment described by Herodotus, these bees could not observe the dance language”可知,就像希罗多德描述的古代实验一样,这些蜜蜂无法观察舞蹈语言。
根据第八段最后一句“The dances of the control bees remained just as good as their first dances.” 再根据第六段最后一句“In contrast, our control colonies contained bees of all ages, so younger bees could follow the older, experienced dancers.”
根据最后一段第一句“Complex communication is often difficult...signals.” 这与第二段第一句“Scientists now know that human language requires...animal languages.”
The bees that could not follow the dances of experienced bees produced dances with significantly more directional, distance and order errors than the dances of control bees.
“that could not follow the dances of experienced bees”为that引导的定语从句,修饰先行词bees;句中还包含“more...than...”
A.Set priorities(优先事项)
B.Schedule your time(时间)
C.She designs test questions based on them.(试题)
D.It's a matter of showing intellectual curiosity.(求知欲)
E.A bag or drawer keeps essential supplies together.(必需品存放)
F.Hard work isn't the whole story behind their academic grades.(勤奋与成绩)
G.You can't believe it tastes good if it's presented on a dirty plate.(脏,不好吃)
36.A 主旨句。
与前文“The student who turns in a neat paper...is already on the way to an A.”进行比较,用比喻的手法,说明试卷就像汉堡,如果不整洁,就不会得到好的评价。

45.A 根据空前“they faced challenges later in life when they needed to borrow money but couldn't”可知,他们因信用不良无法获得(secure)低息贷款。
46.C 根据后文“That has fueled my sense of 47 to teach the next generation of students personal finance.”
47.B 根据后文“It's why I helped develop a personal finance course for teens and young adults.”
48.C 根据后文“we asked the students what 49 interested them”可知,作者问学生对什么感兴趣。

50.B 根据后文“How much do I need to save to make these purchases Which purchases do I prioritize ”可知,作者让学生思考(considering):应该省下多少钱来买这些东西 优先购买哪些 pose提出;examine检查;tackle处理。
51.C 根据后文“...I hope more schools and youth organizations will offer financial education.” search for寻找;pay for支付;care for照顾。
故填was launched。
注意:主语为单数名词或代词,尽管后面跟有with,together with,except,but,like,as well as,rather than,more than,no less than,besides,including等引出的短语,谓语动词仍用单数形式。
故填which。
make a decision to do sth. 故填to select。
此处为so...that... 故填that。
例如:not only...but also..., neither...nor..., such...that..., hardly...when..., no sooner...than...
