I was invited to be an instructor at a high-school leadership camp in Michigan. About an hour into the first day, obvious discomfort and shyness of a boy caught my eye. He was sitting under the tree alone. I could sense that this whole experience was foreign to him. He needed a friend. I walked towards him, made my first interaction but failed.
At lunch the next day, as the campers eagerly participated in the camp song, my gaze wandered over noise and was caught by the boy “under the tree”, sitting alone and staring out of the window. I tried again, with the same questions as before. He again replied, “Yeah, I'm all right. I just don't really get into this stuff.” As I left the cafeteria, I realized this was going to take more time and effort—if it was even possible to get through to him.
Days flew with me spending more time with him and finally came the camp night when I saw what would be one of the most vivid memories of my life. The boy, once confined to the shadows of the tree, was a dancing wonder. I watched as he shared the meaningful time with people at whom he couldn't even look just days earlier. I couldn't believe it was the same person.
A few months after the camp, I received an unexpected call from the boy, who informed me of his ongoing immigration to a foreign country. A long pause followed and then he said, “I went back to school with confidence. I made new friends. My grades went up. The past few months were the best of my life.”
In that instant, I realized how easy it is to give a bit of yourself every day. You may never know how much each gesture may mean to someone else. I tell this story as often as I can, and when I do, I urge others to look out for their own “boy under the tree”.
24.How did the boy feel at the beginning of the leadership camp
A.Anxious and bored.
B.Uneasy and lonely.
C.Proud and enthusiastic.
D.Comfortable and confident.

B.The boy became the focus of the camp.
C.The boy contributed considerably to the camp night.
D.The boy began to open up and socialize with others.
26.What was the boy's main purpose to call the author
A.To show off his recent progress.
B.To express his gratitude to the author.
C.To recall the best memories in the camp.
D.To share concerns about the approaching immigration.
27.What message does the story convey
A.Camps help students shape their character.
B.Every student has the opportunity to shine.
C.Sincere care makes a difference to students' growth.
D.Reserved students face more challenges in their lives.

Doge, Grumpy Cat, Pepe the Frog...these memes (表情包) are often used in our chats with friends on the Internet. But now they have also found their way into the world of fashion.
According to a global fashion search engine Lyst, memecore (梗式穿搭) will become one of the biggest fashion hits this year. Following this trend, some brands have pushed memes to their “extremes” to get people excited. For example, UK fashion brand JW Anderson has used goldfish tanks and pixels (像素) as part of its design. Spanish fashion brand Loewe has brought out boots in the shape of bags.
This meme-inspired fashion trend is “a rejection of the idea that clothing has to obey rules defining what's ‘in’ and ‘out’,” as the fashion website CR Fashion Book notes. The only rule is to “wear what you want, even if it seems odd to those who aren't in on the joke.”
This attitude of fashion freedom has struck a chord with many young people. According to Refinery29, a creative global platform for young people, as aesthetics (审美) change rapidly, people often ask what their aesthetic is because they want something to define themselves. Growing up on the Internet, surrounded by nontraditional memes and comment sections, young people want to challenge the usual system of taste.
Meanwhile, in an era filled with stress and competition, people are left craving for jokes and irony. Now the memecore fashion trend can provide a supply to meet this demand.
Some people might say that the rise of memecore fashion is “a form of escapism”, an idea put forward by CR Fashion Book. But in a stressful life, why not wear some memecore clothes and bring more joy to both yourself and others
28.What is the idea behind memecore fashion
A.Wearing what is widely accepted.
B.Following the latest global fashion trends.
C.Wearing what makes you stand out.
D.Breaking the rules and wearing what you love.
29.Why is Refinery29 mentioned in Paragraph 4
A.To support that young people like memecore fashion.
B.To prove the importance of memes in young people's lives.
C.To introduce the effects of memecore fashion on young people.
D.To indicate that young people follow the usual system of taste.
30.Which is closest in meaning to “craving for” in Paragraph 5
A.Allowing for. B.Begging for.
C.Longing for. D.Fighting for.
31.What does the author think of the memecore fashion trend
A.It's a way to spread happiness.
B.It improves young people's aesthetics.
C.It's funny and ironic but can offend others.
D.It's a form of escapism and should be avoided.
D
Denmark retired after practicing medicine for 73 years and then volunteered her services until she couldn't anymore. She died at the age of 114.
I met her by phone when the pediatrician (儿科医生) couldn't figure out what was wrong with my baby. On the phone, she talked with me for more than 30 minutes. I took her advice, and my baby was better about 10 days later. She never charged me.
“You keep on doing what you do best as long as you can,” she was famous for the words. And it turned out her advice about actively helping others was as good as her medical advice.
Obviously, we can't all live as long as Dr. Denmark. But recent research has shown that volunteering provides a longevity boost similar to the effects of adding multiple servings of fruits and vegetables to your daily diet. Specifically, older adults who volunteer are at 24 percent less risk of early death. The positive impact of giving and volunteering on older people goes beyond that. According to the research, adults over 55 who give their time to others have an easier time with everyday tasks. Besides, volunteers experience 250 percent less cognitive decline leading to dementia (痴呆).
According to a new study in Journal of Happiness Studies, people who volunteer report higher levels of happiness and life satisfaction. The study followed people who began volunteering—monitoring their responses from the time they started volunteering. The longer they volunteered and the more they volunteered, the greater level of happiness they reported.
You may already be volunteering your time. But if you're not, consider the charities you support. Think about the skills you might be able to offer them. You are likely to be glad about what you do.
32.What can we infer about Denmark
A.She retired at the age of 73.
B.She volunteered for 73 years.
C.She was patient and professional.
D.She once forget to charge the author.
33.How many benefits of volunteering are mentioned in Paragraph 4
A.1. B.2.
C.3. D.4.
34.What does the author try to do in the last paragraph
A.Seek support.
B.Advise about sharpening skills.
C.Offer solutions.
D.Encourage people to volunteer.
35.What's the text mainly about
A.The kindness of a doctor.
B.The benefits of volunteering.
C.The process of being a volunteer.
D.The struggle of child-raising.

Thomas and John have a lot in common. They are both talented high school seniors. They both love basketball. They are both captains of their respective high school basketball teams. But on one Saturday night in February, they were forever linked in the minds of all who were present for a mutual act of courage, sportsmanship(体育精神) and respect.
The remarkable moment came during a game between Thomas's small town Illinois team and John's big city team in Wisconsin—a game that almost wasn't played. Just days before the game, John's mother lost her five-year battle with cancer. Her death was sudden and painful for all who knew her.
John's coach wanted to cancel the game, but John insisted that the game should be played. So with heavy hearts, his teammates prepared to honor their captain's wishes and play without him.
What they weren't prepared for was John's appearance in the gym mid-way through the first half. As soon as the coach saw John, he called a time out, and players and fans surrounded the young man to offer love and support.
The coach asked him if he wanted to sit on the bench with the team. “No,” John said. “I want to play.” Of course his team was excited to have him. But because John wasn't on the pre-game roster(候选名单), putting him in the game at that point would result in a technical foul(犯规) and two free throws for the opposing team.
However, John's coach agreed with that. He could see that this was the teenager's way of coping with his loss. He thought the points didn't matter. The opposing team understood the situation and told the referees(裁判) to let John play and forget the technical foul. The referees argued that a rule is a rule, and the free throws would have to be taken before the game could proceed. For possibly the first time in basketball history, referees had to force a team to accept and take the technical free throws.
As the team captain, Thomas volunteered to take the free throws.
John and his teammates stood and applauded the gesture of sportsmanship.

A
故选A项。
根据Basic Landscaping 中的“You should be capable of doing physical work and lifting objects over 50 lbs.”(你应该有能力做体力劳动和举起超过50磅的物体。)以及Vegetable Farm Assistants中的“Have the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs and perform tasks that require bending or kneeling for several hours.”(能够提起和搬运50磅的重物,完成需要弯腰或跪着几个小时的任务。)
根据第一段中“obvious discomfort and shyness of a boy caught my eye”和“He was sitting under the tree alone.”
At lunch the next day, as the campers eagerly participated in the camp song, my gaze wandered over noise and was caught by the boy “under the tree”, sitting alone and staring out of the window.
“as the campers...camp song”为as引导的时间状语从句;现在分词短语“sitting alone and staring out of the window”作定语。
故选A项。
故选A项。
This meme-inspired fashion trend is “a rejection of the idea that clothing has to obey rules defining what's ‘in’ and ‘out’,” as the fashion website CR Fashion Book notes.
“that clothing has to obey rules defining what's ‘in’ and ‘out’”为that引导的同位语从句,作抽象名词idea的同位语,其中what引导defining后的宾语从句;as引导非限制性定语从句。
根据第二段中的“she talked with me for more than 30 minutes”可知,Denmark有耐心,根据“I took her advice, and my baby was better about 10 days later.”

41.C 根据后文“And I told her I failed”可知, George失败了。
根据前文“When Eugenie George first heard that her friend passed a financial exam”可知,她的朋友通过考试,这里应是祝贺她的朋友。 故选A项。
43.D 根据前文“Envy was eating me up”可知作者是嫉妒的。

even if即使;as if好像……;now that由于; so that以便。故选A项。
48.B 根据后文“It makes relationships ‘closer and more enjoyable.’”
50.A 根据前文“during their hard times”可知,在困难时期的事,应是丢掉工作。 故选A项。
根据后文“how they respond to our 52 ”可知,这里应是对快乐的反应。look forward to期待;contribute to有助于;get used to习惯于;react to对……
52.C 根据前文“In fact, how friends react to our joy”可知,空处应与joy形成对比。
53.B 根据前文“We see it as something that comes to us, instead of”可知此处表转折,与“自然发生在我们身上的东西”相对的是“创造出来的东西”。
54.C 根据前文“freudenfreude can lift us up and”可知,空处和lift us up并列。
故填a。
not only...but also...
故填to sample。

Thomas and John, John's coach
Just days before the game, John lost his mother,so his teammates played without him. But John appeared in the gym mid-way through the first half. To make John play in the game, the free throws would have to be taken.

One possible version:
As the team captain, Thomas volunteered to take the free throws. One would have expected he was looking for an opportunity to keep his team close in the hard-fought game. Or one could even assume he wanted a chance to add a couple of points to his personal statistics. In either case, one would be wrong. Thomas thought he must do something special to comfort John. So he took the ball from the referee, looked at the basket and shot the ball calmly. Surprisingly, Thomas shot lightly on purpose, and he missed the chance to score.
John and his teammates stood and applauded the gesture of sportsmanship. So did all of the fans. Thomas said loudly, “I did it for the guy who lost his mom. It was the right thing to do.” When the two teams met after the game, nobody on either side was much concerned about wins or losses. “This is something our kids will hold for a lifetime,” Thomas's coach said. “They may not remember the statistics 20 years from now, but they'll remember what happened in the gym that night.”
