Why not find a new friend in 2024—yourself! You may want to get love and care from a good friendship. Well, you shouldn’t have to go far to find them.
Loving yourself, also called self-love, means being as kind to yourself as you are to others. Give yourself the love and care you should give your friends and family. Becky Goddard-Hill, the writer of Create Your Own Confidence, says it means speaking to yourself with kindness. It also means taking really good care of your body and mind.
Studies show that self-love is good for your schoolwork, health and friendships. Self-love makes you believe in yourself. It makes you feel that you deserve (值得) good things, such as kind friends and fun experiences. It doesn’t mean you’ll be happy all the time, but when you face difficulties, you won’t upset yourself.
Start by being kind instead of being angry. When you make a mistake, don’t get angry with yourself. Tell yourself that everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Then work out what you could do differently next time. Remember that no one is perfect. Becky suggests writing down your strengths (优点) as they can help you remember how excellent you are. “Looking at the list often will help bring out the best in you,” says Becky.

We spend most of our time with friends we like. What kind of people are welcomed by others, then There are people that can always attract (吸引) you. By being with them just once, you start to like them. If you wonder why they attract people and want to be a person like them, you should learn from them.
Firstly, everybody wants to be happy and nobody wants to spend their time with an unhappy person. If you are with a happy person, you are more likely to be happy, too. This is what we call mood linkage (心境联结). So if you are a happy person, many people are willing to spend their time with you.
Next, everybody needs someone to encourage them, because sometimes in our lives we meet some bad things. So if you always choose to cheer others up with encouraging words or actions, they will be glad to spend time with you.
Lastly, you are not a true friend if you don’t give a hand to your friends when they need help. You should always be helpful. One day when you need help, they will be there for you, too.

第一节 任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文,用英文填空或回答问题。(注意每小题的词数要求)
Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. That is why some friendships don’t last (持续) long. To have a good friend, you must learn to treat (对待) your friend in the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest (诚实的), be generous (慷慨的) and be understanding.
Being honest is the start of a good friendship. Friends must trust each other. If a friend finds out that you are not honest, you may lose your friend’s trust.
Generosity (n.慷慨) means sharing. You don’t have to give your lunch money or your clothes to your friend, but you can share the things you enjoy—like your hobbies and interests. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be meaningful to a friend. They show your friend what is important to you. Your friend can know you better by sharing.
Everyone needs to help with a problem. Talking about the problem to a friend can be the first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend, you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend’s place so that you can understand the problem better.
No two friendships are the same. But all true friendships have these three things. If you plan to keep your friendships, you must practice being honest, generous and understanding.
