Help the Remote Village
A year ago, the famous astronaut received an invitation by airmail from a remote village. Intending to sniff some fresh air, he and his interpreter paid a fortnight visit there. It was a privilege for them to be there, but they were shocked by what they saw. The tracks were muddy. The river was drying up. Most villagers only possessed one broom, a few tins and several jars and their rectangular grass huts with round angles were surrounded by weeds. Besides, their school had no roof and platform, and the students had no concept of clicking a computer at all. They were badly in need.
Soon, the astronaut made a generous voluntary donation to the village. There were textbooks for students, sewing machines for tailors and tractors for farmers. His distribution catalogue also included operating a clinic and a trunk library, as well as giving weekly lessons to teach relevant farming knowledge like how to dry out seeds or raise oxen. He himself not only helped do some paperwork but also purchased grills for boys to toast potatoes and combs for girls who were dying to get one. His deeds were remembered forever.
Questions:
1.What can we learn from paragraph 1?( )
A.The village was rich.
B.The students learned by computer.
C.The situation was needy.
D.The river was full of water.
2.Which one is not the donation from the astronaut?( )
A.Textbooks. B.Weekly lessons.
C.Sewing machines. D.Houses.
3.What surprised the famous astronaut

4.What did the astronaut decide to do to help the villagers

A little girl whose parents had died lived with her grandmother and slept in an upstairs bedroom. One night there was a fire in the house and the grandmother died while trying to rescue the child. The fire spread quickly, and the situation was terrible.
Neighbors called the fire department, and then stood helplessly by, unable to enter the house because flames blocked all the entrances. The little girl appeared at an upstairs window, crying for help, just as word spread among the crowd that the fire fighters would be delayed a few minutes because they were all at another fire.
Suddenly, a man appeared with a ladder, put it up against the side of the house and disappeared inside. When he reappeared, he had the little girl in his arms. He delivered the child to the waiting arms below, and then disappeared into the night.
An investigation revealed that the child had no living relatives, and weeks later a meeting was held in the town hall to determine who would take the child into their home and bring her up.
A teacher said she would like to raise the child. She pointed out that she could ensure her a good education. A farmer offered her an upbringing (养育) on his farm. He pointed out that living on a farm was healthy and satisfying. Others spoke, giving their reasons why it was to the child's advantage to live with them.
Finally, the town's richest resident rose and said, “I can give this child all the advantages that you have mentioned here, plus money and everything that money can buy.”
Throughout all this, the child remained silent, her eyes on the floor.
“Does anyone else want to speak?” asked the meeting chairman. A man came forward from the back of the hall. He walked slowly and appeared to be in pain.

Across the UK, a group of volunteer motorcyclists are helping hospitals by delivering blood. Angela Brown is one of them. She is on call for 80 hours each month. At very short notice, she can be woken in the night and find herself riding a motorbike with a vital delivery for a hospital. But she's not an employee of any hospital. She's just a volunteer, one of the 1,400 advanced qualified riders of the Association of Blood Bikers. Last year, the Association's bikers responded to around 35,000 rapid transport requests from 262 UK hospitals. Besides blood, the bikers also deliver surgical tools and medicine. Brown first discovered blood biking when she was on a course at the institute of advanced motorists. Her trainer was a blood biker. Under his influence, Brown started volunteering as a rider. She later discovered that blood bikers once helped her own nephew, Peter. He received blood delivered by a rider on New Year's Eve, 2015. Brown says being a blood biker is a way of helping the community and being on the bike at the same time.

Continuing our broadcast of public service announcements, Worldwide Helpers is looking for a number of volunteer worker positions. All applicants must be over eighteen years of age. Those who have previous experience are preferred. As for the positions, there are three types. The first involves helping persons with wheelchairs. For this position, volunteers must be healthy. But the most important requirement is that the volunteer must have his own car. On Friday afternoons, the volunteers take their clients to various spots to enjoy nature. If you don't drive but you'd like to get involved, the center has a number of openings for people to read to the blind. For these positions, you must be available on Monday mornings and finally there are volunteers needed to care for disabled children for one week in August, helping them with daily routine. All applications for this position have to be submitted no later than Monday, August the eighth. So get out there and do something good.

1.Where there are difficulties, there are volunteers. Where people are needed, there are volunteers.
2.Since our city plans to build a civilized and healthy city, my teachers have taken turns to volunteer as traffic controllers on the street. They are very responsible, careful, not afraid of the wind and rain, standing to guide people or cars to cross the road. Even if they are very tired, they never complain about it. I think my teachers are the most respectable people.

参考范文:
When he got to the front of the hall, he stood directly in front of the little girl and held out his arms. His hands and arms were terribly scarred. The little girl cried out, “This is the man who rescued me!” With a leap, she threw her arms around the man's neck. She buried her face in his shoulder and sobbed for a few moments. Then she looked up and smiled, stating happily she would live with him.
When asked her choice, the girl gave people the reasons firmly. She said in a low but determined voice, “I really desire to get a good education that will give me chances to achieve my dreams. Besides, I know that money means a lot to me since I have no relatives to rely on. But it's the man who saved my life when I was desperately facing a fire like that. Without him, I wouldn't be here, waiting for a new choice. I hope that I can do whatever I can to pay back his kindness.”
