(2024·烟台高一下学期月考)Being active really means two things. First, you take responsibility for your life. Second, you have a “can-do” attitude. Can-do is very different from “no-can-do”. If you think can-do, and you’re creative, it’s amazing what you can achieve.
American aviator Elinor Smith once said,“It has long since come to my attention that people of achievement seldom sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.”
George Bernard Shaw, the English playwright, knew all about can-do. Listen to how he said it: “People are always complain about their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them.”
Pay attention to how Denise was able to create the circumstances she wanted:
I know it’s strange for a teenager to want to work in a library, but I really wanted that job — more than I had ever wanted anything, but they weren’t hiring. I would go to the library every day and read, hang out with my friends, and just get away from home — what better place to work than someplace I already hung out at? Although I didn’t have a job there, I got to know the office staff (员工), and I volunteered for special events and very soon I was one of the staff. It paid off. When they finally had an opening, I was their first choice, and I found one of the best jobs I ever had.
4.What does Elinor Smith mean about people of achievement?
A.They do something difficult.
B.They wait for good chances.
C.They try to get things done.
D.They choose something easy.
5.What did George Bernard Shaw encourage us to do?
A.Accept our situation.
B.Create a better situation.
C.Understand our situation.
D.Look for a better situation.
6.How did Denise get the job she wanted?
A.By getting some support.
B.By asking for some advice.
C.By pleasing the office staff.
D.By making good preparations.
7.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.How to Find a Good Job
B.How to Work in a Library
C.Work Hard and Never Give up
D.Be Active and Achieve Success

(2024·石家庄高一下学期质检)The start of a new school year is often a very exciting time for many students. It also tends to be a time of increased worry and stress about the year that lies ahead.Even children who typically adjust well to change and new situations often feel a lot of anxiety.Fortunately for most, this anxiety will fade fairly quickly over the first couple of weeks. However, for others, it may persist and have a larger impact on a student’s social and academic performance.Try some of the ideas below to help ease anxiety with the transition back to school.
Let your children know you care.If your children are anxious about school, send personal notes in their lunch box or book bag.Children absorb their parents’ anxiety, so show your optimism and confidence to your children.Let your children know that it is natural to be a little nervous anytime you start something new, but that they will be fine once they become familiar with their classmates, teachers, and school routines.
If the first few days are a little challenging, try not to overreact.Reassure your children that you love them, will think of them during the day, and will be back.Remain calm and positive.
Acknowledge anxiety over a bad experience the previous year.Children who had a difficult time academically or socially, or who may have faced bullying, may be more fearful or unwilling to return to school.Consider sharing your children’s concern with the school and confirm that the problem has been addressed.Reassure your children that you and the school are working together to prevent further issues.
Improve your children’s ability to solve problems.Talk with your children about ways to manage a difficult situation on their own.Work through examples of challenges faced during prior school years.Encourage your children to tell you, a teacher, or another trusted adult at school if the problem persists.Maintain open lines of communication with the school.
8.What do we learn about anxiety before a new school year?
A.It is very common.
B.It lasts a long time.
C.It affects only a few.
D.It’s easy to deal with.
9.What will parents write on their personal notes according to Paragraph 2?
A.Be careful!
B.Stay strong!
C.Don’t make mistakes.
D.Respect your teachers.
10.What should parents do if their children have faced bullying?
A.Leave them alone.
B.Talk to the bullies’ parents.
C.Make contact with their teachers.
D.Encourage them to solve it independently.

A.To analyze some facts.
B.To teach some theories.
C.To draw some conclusions.
D.To make some suggestions.

  (2024·嘉兴高一上学期期末考试)
If it seems like all your friends have smartphones, you may be on to something. A new report by Common Sense Media, which reports on technology and media for children, found that by the age of 11, more than half of kids in the US have their own smartphone. By age 12, more than two-thirds do, and by 14, teens are just as likely as adults to own a smartphone. Some kids start much younger. Nearly 20% of 8-year-olds have their own smartphone!
So, what’s the right age for you? Well, I study the effects of media and technology on kids, and I’m here to say that there is no single right answer to this question. The best I can offer is this: When both you and your parents feel the time is right.
Here are some points to consider to help you and your parents make this decision.
Be responsible: Have you shown that you are generally responsible? Do you understand the value of money, and can you save up to buy things you want?
Keep safe: Do you travel to or from school or after-school activities without an adult? This is when phones often go from a “want” to a “need”. Sometimes parents report that they feel better knowing they can reach their children directly, and that their kids can reach them, too.
Be careful: Do you treat your friends with kindness and respect? Do you know the fact that once something goes out onto the web, it can never truly be deleted (删除)?
When you have a smartphone, your parents are the No.1 most important influence in your life. If parents use their phones all day, guess what? Their children probably will be, too. However, if parents have smartphone habits like putting the phone away during meals and not texting and driving, that will go a long way towards helping kids develop the same habits.
12.In America, about 67% children own their phones at the age of .
A.11 B.12
C.13 D.14
13.A phone goes from a “want” to a “need” when children use it to .
A.get some information online
B.chat with their friends online
C.send messages to their friends
D.keep in touch with their parents
14.What should parents do according to the last paragraph?
A.Teach their children to use phones.
B.Use their phones as little as possible.
C.Control their children’s using phones.
D.Set a good example for their children.
15.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.The Advantages of Having a Phone
B.How Do Children Use Their Phones?
C.How Old Should Children Be to Get Phones?
D.The Problems With Children’s Having Phones

As national exams are coming, here are some ways you can support your child through this stressful period.
Talk to them about exam nerves
It’s important to communicate with your child that feeling nervous before an exam is entirely normal. 16 Listen to their concerns and help them process their emotions.Always be supportive and give constructive feedback while avoiding being critical and negative.
17 This can help them understand that stress is something that everyone goes through at different times.
Make sure they get enough sleep
Your kids may want to give up sleep in order to get more study time. 18
According to Dr Rachel Dawkins from the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, kids who regularly get enough sleep have improved attention, behaviour, learning, memory and overall mental and physical health.Kids aged 6 to 12 should get between 9 and 12 hours of sleep, while teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 should get 8 to 10 hours of sleep a night.
Help them get some down time
The closer your kids get to the exams, the more important it is to help your kids get some down time away from studying. 19 It can also be in the form of mindfulness meditation (冥想), which can help sharpen their mind, help them focus and also improve their memory.
Help them with their revision
Another way to show support is by helping your child come up with a study timetable.Talk them through what needs to be done and help them work out how much time they will need for each subject. 20 Remember to schedule regular breaks for them to relax.
A.Focus on your exams.
B.You need to get well prepared for it.
C.Encourage them to share their feelings with you.
D.This shows them that you are interested in their progress.
E.However, it is far healthier to encourage them to get to bed early.
F.Perhaps you can share a simple story about how you overcome work stress.
G.This can be in the form of physical activity, such as going to the park to take exercise.

  (2024·烟台高一下学期月考)Being active really means two
things.First, you take responsibility for your life.Second, you have a
“can-do” attitude.Can-do is very different from “no-can-do”.If you think
can-do, and you’re creative, it’s amazing what you can achieve.
American aviator Elinor Smith once said, “It has long since come to
my attention that people of achievement seldom sat back and let things
happen to them. They went out and happened to things.”
George Bernard Shaw, the English playwright, knew all about can-
do.Listen to how he said it: “People are always complain about their
circumstances for what they are.I don’t believe in circumstances. The
people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the
circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them.”
Pay attention to how Denise was able to create the circumstances she
wanted:
I know it’s strange for a teenager to want to work in a library, but I
really wanted that job — more than I had ever wanted anything, but they
weren’t hiring.I would go to the library every day and read, hang out
with my friends, and just get away from home — what better place to
work than someplace I already hung out at? Although I didn’t have a job
there, I got to know the office staff (员工), and I volunteered for
special events and very soon I was one of the staff. It paid off. When they
finally had an opening, I was their first choice, and I found one of the
best jobs I ever had.

(2024·石家庄高一下学期质检)The start of a new school year is
often a very exciting time for many students. It also tends to be a time of
increased worry and stress about the year that lies ahead.Even children who
typically adjust well to change and new situations often feel a lot of
anxiety.Fortunately for most, this anxiety will fade fairly quickly over the
first couple of weeks. However, for others, it may persist and have a
larger impact on a student’s social and academic performance.Try some of
the ideas below to help ease anxiety with the transition back to school.
Let your children know you care.If your children are anxious about
school, send personal notes in their lunch box or book bag.Children
absorb their parents’ anxiety, so show your optimism and confidence to
your children.Let your children know that it is natural to be a little nervous
anytime you start something new, but that they will be fine once they
become familiar with their classmates, teachers, and school routines.
If the first few days are a little challenging, try not to
overreact.Reassure your children that you love them, will think of them
during the day, and will be back.Remain calm and positive.
Acknowledge anxiety over a bad experience the previous
year.Children who had a difficult time academically or socially, or who
may have faced bullying, may be more fearful or unwilling to return to
school.Consider sharing your children’s concern with the school and
confirm that the problem has been addressed.Reassure your children that
you and the school are working together to prevent further issues.
Improve your children’s ability to solve problems.Talk with your
children about ways to manage a difficult situation on their own.Work
through examples of challenges faced during prior school years.Encourage
your children to tell you, a teacher, or another trusted adult at school if
the problem persists.Maintain open lines of communication with the
school.

If it seems like all your friends have smartphones, you may be on to
something.A new report by Common Sense Media, which reports on
technology and media for children, found that by the age of 11, more
than half of kids in the US have their own smartphone.By age 12, more
than two-thirds do, and by 14, teens are just as likely as adults to own a
smartphone.Some kids start much younger.Nearly 20% of 8-year-olds have
their own smartphone!
So, what’s the right age for you? Well, I study the effects of
media and technology on kids, and I’m here to say that there is no single
right answer to this question. The best I can offer is this: When both you
and your parents feel the time is right.
Here are some points to consider to help you and your parents make
this decision.
Be responsible: Have you shown that you are generally
responsible? Do you understand the value of money, and can you save
up to buy things you want?
Keep safe: Do you travel to or from school or after-school activities
without an adult? This is when phones often go from a “want” to a
“need”.Sometimes parents report that they feel better knowing they can
reach their children directly, and that their kids can reach them, too.
Be careful: Do you treat your friends with kindness and respect?
Do you know the fact that once something goes out onto the web, it can
never truly be deleted (删除)?
When you have a smartphone, your parents are the No.1 most
important influence in your life.If parents use their phones all day, guess
what? Their children probably will be, too. However, if parents have
smartphone habits like putting the phone away during meals and not texting
and driving, that will go a long way towards helping kids develop the
same habits.

As national exams are coming, here are some ways you can support
your child through this stressful period.
Talk to them about exam nerves
It’s important to communicate with your child that feeling nervous
before an exam is entirely normal. 16 Listen to their concerns and help
them process their emotions.Always be supportive and give constructive
feedback while avoiding being critical and negative.
17 This can help them understand that stress is something that
everyone goes through at different times.
Make sure they get enough sleep
Your kids may want to give up sleep in order to get more study
time. 18
According to Dr Rachel Dawkins from the Johns Hopkins All
Children’s Hospital, kids who regularly get enough sleep have improved
attention, behaviour, learning, memory and overall mental and
physical health.Kids aged 6 to 12 should get between 9 and 12 hours of
sleep, while teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 should get 8 to 10
hours of sleep a night.
Help them get some down time
The closer your kids get to the exams, the more important it is to
help your kids get some down time away from studying. 19 It can also
be in the form of mindfulness meditation (冥想), which can help
sharpen their mind, help them focus and also improve their memory.
Help them with their revision
Another way to show support is by helping your child come up with a
study timetable.Talk them through what needs to be done and help them
work out how much time they will need for each subject. 20
Remember to schedule regular breaks for them to relax.
A. Focus on your exams.
B. You need to get well prepared for it.
C. Encourage them to share their feelings with you.
D. This shows them that you are interested in their progress.
E. However, it is far healthier to encourage them to get to bed early.
F. Perhaps you can share a simple story about how you overcome work
stress.
G. This can be in the form of physical activity, such as going to the park
to take exercise.
