I work as a waiter at a hotel.Last night an elderly couple who looked wealthy came into the restaurant and my co-worker seated them.We usually do our own tables, but because we were so busy last night we helped each other out.At one point the elderly couple signaled to me that they were ready to order.Once again we were super busy so I usually find it rude when people go out of their way to make their order, but once I took their order I understood why.
The husband began ordering and started stuttering (口吃) to an extent I’ve never heard before. It was very clear that he had a speech disorder.I could tell the wife had told her husband very clearly what she wanted, as a way for him to practice ordering. It took a while for him to order, and at the same time she was sitting there and she looked so gratified.
Honestly the whole thing just did something to me.It just made me realise that a huge part of love is acceptance and support. She could have made the order and made things a lot easier for her husband and avoid the stares from other tables, but she didn’t.Instead she supported him and was proud to see him complete the order.
Another thing this whole thing did was to remind me that life is difficult for all of us.I thought these wealthy people had everything going for them and I’m sure they do, but it just reminded me that all of us have our problems. In the beginning, I took their gesture of wanting to order as being rude, but I think they signaled it because he really wanted to get the order right.
24.How did the author feel when the couple signaled to order?( )
A.Very angry. B.Very surprised.
C.A little excited. D.A little unhappy.
25.What does the underlined word “gratified” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?( )

A.She had difficulty in speaking. B.She liked to practice ordering.
C.She was smart and hardworking. D.She was patient and considerate.
27.What’s the author’s purpose of writing the last two paragraphs?( )
A.To make some comments. B.To give some suggestions.
C.To share some personal views. D.To draw some final conclusions.
C
The world’s best performers aren’t born that way. They may have innate, superior physical and intellectual traits, but that’s not what makes them champions. The difference between good and great, between doing well and achieving excellence, isn’t physical. It is entirely mental.
American figure skater Nathan Chen was the heavy favourite to win the gold medal in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, but he faltered in the short program and came away with a fifth-place finish. Why? Because, as he told us during an interview, Nathan was too concerned about what other people were saying and thinking about him.He forgot why he was there.
The best performers learn to find the security of acting solely out of their own values. They put aside reputational fears and focus solely on their own values and motivations.
How do they do this? It starts with clearly understanding identity.Who are you? What do you care about and stand for? These seem like easy questions, but have you actually taken the time to think about them?
To understand your identity, we advise creating a values credo (信条).Notice and write down your values and the things you care about, the identity markers that define you. What brings you energy and joy? What are your core characteristics and attributes? What do you most respect in yourself and others?
The good news is that when you stay true to identity, reputation usually takes care of itself.
When Nathan Chen returned to the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022, he was armed with his values credo. When he started feeling uneasy about what the press, spectators, and judges were thinking about, he successfully redirected those thoughts to remind himself why he was there.
He fell in love with the sport and worked hard to achieve excellence for one simple reason. It was fun.He loved skating.Inspired by his credo, and this sense of joy, Nathan Chen stayed true to himself in Beijing and blew the competition away. Now his identity includes that well-earned gold medal.
28.What sets the best performers apart from the common people?( )
A.Hard work. B.Great talent.
C.Good fortune. D.Mental state.
29.Why did Nathan Chen fail to win the gold medal in 2018?( )
A.He lacked practical experience. B.He hadn’t practiced hard enough.
C.He focused on others’ opinions. D.He was affected by the audience.
30.What’s the author’s purpose of asking some questions in Paragraphs 4 and 5?( )
A.To advise us to achieve success. B.To advise us to unlock potential.
C.To help us to find our personal credo. D.To help us to become best performers.
31.What message does the author try to convey by writing the passage?( )
A.Be your personal best. B.Try to find your passion.
C.Dare to follow your dream. D.Conquer your fear of failure.
D
Too much stress can make it more likely for a person to get sick, and so scientists are trying to think of ways to keep people from being overly stressed. In this experiment, scientists studied the effect of music on stress.
Scientists asked women to either listen to relaxing music, nature sounds, or to nothing.Following the music session, they had the women stand in front of an audience and perform two tasks.First, each woman had to give a speech.Second, each woman had to do complex maths in her head. These two tasks make up the Trier Social Stress Task, a method scientists use as a sure-fire way to make people feel stressed.
Scientists know that the body responds to stress by releasing cortisol (皮质醇), and so they used it to measure stress.Scientists compared cortisol levels after listening to music and at various times after doing the Trier Social Stress Task. The scientists also measured an enzyme (酶) called alpha-amylase.Alpha-amylase is important to your body as it kills unwanted bacteria and it helps break down the food that you eat.Alpha-amylase is also released by the nervous system in response to stress.
The scientists tested how classical music and nature sounds affect levels of cortisol and alpha-amylase.The alpha-amylase levels of people who listened to classical music went back to normal more quickly compared to the people listening to nature sounds.
The people listening to relaxing music showed a stress response that was shorter compared to the other groups. The shorter response helps to prevent the body from getting worn out. This means that listening to relaxing music might help to improve the stress response and health.
The results of this study were a bit mixed.Scientists still have a lot of work to do to see if listening to music can reduce stress by lowering cortisol levels in the body.Until we know more, maybe play some tunes or listen to some nature sounds when you feel stressed.Even if it doesn’t directly help your stress level, it’s still nice to hear a good song.
32.Why were the participants asked to make speeches and do maths?( )
A.To attract more audience.
B.To let them create music.
C.To explore their brains.
D.To make them stressed.
33.What did the scientists do to the participants?( )
A.They broke down the food they ate.
B.They measured their cortisol levels.
C.They helped them kill body bacteria.
D.They calmed them down with music.
34.What is a finding of the study?( )
A.Classical music helps to prohibit alpha-amylase.
B.Nature sounds prevent the body getting worn out.
C.Relaxing music helps the body calm down faster.
D.Listening to nature sounds makes cortisol levels higher.
35.What is the best title for the text?( )
A.Does Listening to Music Reduce Stress?
B.What Should We Do to Become Relaxed?
C.Can Classical Music Beat Nature Sounds?
D.Why Can Music Influence People’s Health?

We need to be conscious of the fact that people around us influence us in subtle ways that may encourage us, or keep us from moving forward.36.( ) Here are some points we need to keep in mind.
The circle of five.
Motivated speaker Jim John famously said, “You’re the average of the five people you spend most of your time with.” 37.( ) If this “circle” of people is goal-driven, and encouraging, we can experience a positive impact on our actions. On the other hand, if the people around us are negative and restrictive, we may subconsciously “live-up” to these qualities and stunt our own personal growth in the process.
38.( )
How do you identify who is influencing you? Be mindful of the conversations you have with people and the activities you engaged in with them. What are the opinions that dominate in your social group? What are the similarities between you and the five people you are constantly close to? If there is a difference between what you are and where you want to be, look at your circle of five and you will see how instrumental they are in influencing your path.Identify and exclude time and energy vampire’s from your circle of five.
Nourish your circle.
Once you identify the people who belong to your reference group, it is important to nourish these relationships.39.( ) Different individuals evolve at a different pace. The important part is to be aware of this living and changing “circle of five”.Of course, five is a rough guide. It could be slightly more or less.Let this circle of five motivate you, help you gain courage, and take the right actions.
40.( ) Play this role sincerely and demonstrate a growth mind set to anyone who lists you as part of their circle of five.
A.Know your circle.
B.Enrich your circle.
C.Do you know who are in your circle?
D.Over time, this core circle may change.
E.How can we make use of it to live a better life?
F.The influence of those around us can be quite significant.
G.Remember, just like others influence you, you also exert an influence on others.

It was ten years ago.I was a shy girl with few words. In every social occasion, I avoid having conversations with strangers.
However, I was fond of listening to and telling stories. As the storytellers on stage tell interesting stories, the audience laughed and wept and sang.Like everyone else, I was attracted by them and admire them.I kept telling myself in my heart:“I love stories! These are my kind of people! I want to be a storyteller!”
Then one day I heard about an upcoming storytelling event in my town and decided to attend.
Needless to say, storytelling necessitated getting up on a stage under bright lights and addressing strangers.Storytelling also required using a microphone and tons of memorization.Let’s not forget self-confidence and the ability to act that were also needed! Where was I going to get the talent, memory, and courage needed to become a storyteller?
Next to dying, public speaking was my greatest fear.I must be out of my mind! I thought to myself. My memory isn’t that great. What if I get up there and forget my story?
However, I didn’t want to fail, and the opportunity to give the gift of laughter or touch people’s hearts with heartwarming stories meant more to me than the pain of self-discipline it would require to become a storyteller. All I had to do was grab myself by the neck and march forward through my wall of fears.
The first time I went on stage, I felt like I was being led to the guillotine (断头台).One hundred pairs of eyes are fixed on me as I stand on stage performing a humorous story. My hands were icy cold, and my mind went completely blank. As a matter of fact, my knees trembled as I walked down the steps.Nothing improved once I was in the hall.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式作答。
I didn’t want to give up, and my hard journey of practice began.
Finally, the big day of the storytelling event came when I had to rise to the challenge.

M:Man is set to enter a new stage of transport as a flying car will go on sale next year. The BlackFly vehicle was shown publicly for the first time by the maker Opener in California on Thursday.Larry Page provides money for the flying car.BlackFly’s designers say it can travel for up to 40 km at a speed of 100 kph.It will eventually cost the same as a regular car.The vehicle has been tested in Canada, which has authorized its use.Even though it will fly to the skies, drivers will not need a pilot’s license to get behind the controls. However, BlackFly operators will have to successfully complete a pilot’s written examination and receive training in how to use the vehicle.
Some experts say the term “car” is somewhat of a wrong name as it has no wheels and cannot be driven on roads.A more accurate description would be a person-carrying vehicle. The vehicle can only carry one person.Company CEO Marcus Leng said,“Opener is reenergizing the art of flight with a safe and affordable flying vehicle that can free its operators from the everyday restrictions of ground transportation.” Robert Eustace, the former Senior Vice President of Knowledge said the age of personal flight could be arriving with BlackFly.He said,“I’ve noticed that things go from impossible to unavoidable in a very short period of time.”

第一节
What leads to success?
There is no denying that a variety of factors contribute to one’s personal success, such as talent, luck, education, and hard work. It seems to me that hard work plays the most important role in one’s achieving success.
Let me give you an example to demonstrate my point. Lang Lang is arguably one of the most well-known pianists in the world. Needless to say, he has a special gift for music. However, never should we ignore the fact that he practiced playing the piano for eight hours a day when he was very young. Fundamentally speaking, it was his hard work that made him stand out from the crowd and win a position in the world stage.
If you want to succeed, just work hard. The harder you work, the luckier you will be.
第二节
I didn’t want to give up, and my hard journey of practice began.I started to tell stories every day, sometimes in front of my classmates and sometimes in front of the mirror in my living
room.Within a few months of deliberate practice, I spoke more naturally and fluently.More importantly, my self-esteem began to rise and my confidence started to improve noticeably.Eventually, I got into the habit of speaking in public and I became more comfortable talking with new people. As a matter of fact, the more people there were, the more excited I was.I was a different girl from the shy one who was afraid of strangers and public speaking.I had changed myself dramatically, which was simply amazing!
Finally, the big day of the storytelling event came when I had to rise to the challenge.Unlike the first time, I went on the stage with ease and relaxation.I told a well-prepared and brilliant story in a vivid way.A big round of applause proved that I had done a great job.A thrill of excitement (and relief) blasted through me.Recognition was not common in my life before this.Never before had I experienced such a feeling of achievement. All these wonderful changes in my life came about when I listened to my heart and conquered my fears.

(Text 6)
M:Could you tell me what happened?
W:Sure. We were in a taxi.Hun was showing me around the city when he

M:What do you think of that small room downstairs? We could change
it into a meeting room for Professor Brian to use.

you’re there! Is there anything on Thursdays?
M:Mr Brown is running his usual club again, just like last year.
W:Oh! Mr Brown’s Thursday film club! I enjoyed that. We had
some great discussions.
M:Yes.I’m hoping to do that this year, too.And on Fridays, the
local singing club will be upstairs and the guitar club is downstairs.
W:Oh, yes.I tried the singing club a few years ago, but the songs
were quite boring.
M:Well, I guess I’ll see you on Thursday evenings then!
W:Yes!
(Text 10)
M:Man is set to enter a new stage of transport as a flying car will go
on sale next year. The BlackFly vehicle was shown publicly for the first
time by the maker Opener in California on Thursday.Larry Page provides
money for the flying car.BlackFly’s designers say it can travel for up to
40 km at a speed of 100 kph.It will eventually cost the same as a regular
car.The vehicle has been tested in Canada, which has authorized its
use.Even though it will fly to the skies, drivers will not need a pilot’s
license to get behind the controls. However, BlackFly operators will have
to successfully complete a pilot’s written examination and receive
training in how to use the vehicle.
Some experts say the term “car” is somewhat of a wrong name as it
has no wheels and cannot be driven on roads.A more accurate description
would be a person-carrying vehicle. The vehicle can only carry one
person.Company CEO Marcus Leng said,“Opener is reenergizing the
art of flight with a safe and affordable flying vehicle that can free its
operators from the everyday restrictions of ground transportation.”
Robert Eustace, the former Senior Vice President of Knowledge said the
age of personal flight could be arriving with BlackFly.He said,“I’ve
noticed that things go from impossible to unavoidable in a very short
period of time.”

What Is LEGO?
By Jim O’Connor
The LEGO company was founded in 1934 by a Danish carpenter who
loved making wooden pull toys. From its humble beginnings, the
company has lived up to its name — which comes from the Danish phrase
leg godt, which means “play well” — encouraging children to use their
imagination and build whatever they can dream up.The Lego Group’s
motto is “only the best is good enough”.
The west was at its wildest from 1865 to 1895, when the west of the Mississippi River remained wild and lawless.Famous for cowboys, American Indians, lawmen, gunmen, and pioneers, this period in
America captures the imagination of all kids and now is brought vividly to life.

I work as a waiter at a hotel.Last night an elderly couple who looked
wealthy came into the restaurant and my co-worker seated them.We
usually do our own tables, but because we were so busy last night we
helped each other out.At one point the elderly couple signaled to me that
they were ready to order.Once again we were super busy so I usually find
it rude when people go out of their way to make their order, but once I
took their order I understood why.
The husband began ordering and started stuttering (口吃) to an
extent I’ve never heard before. It was very clear that he had a speech
disorder.I could tell the wife had told her husband very clearly what she
wanted, as a way for him to practice ordering. It took a while for him to
order, and at the same time she was sitting there and she looked so
gratified.
Honestly the whole thing just did something to me.It just made me
realise that a huge part of love is acceptance and support. She could have
made the order and made things a lot easier for her husband and avoid the
stares from other tables, but she didn’t.Instead she supported him and
was proud to see him complete the order.
Another thing this whole thing did was to remind me that life is
difficult for all of us.I thought these wealthy people had everything going
for them and I’m sure they do, but it just reminded me that all of us
have our problems. In the beginning, I took their gesture of wanting to
order as being rude, but I think they signaled it because he really wanted
to get the order right.

The world’s best performers aren’t born that way. They may have
innate, superior physical and intellectual traits, but that’s not what
makes them champions. The difference between good and great, between
doing well and achieving excellence, isn’t physical. It is entirely
mental.
American figure skater Nathan Chen was the heavy favourite to win
the gold medal in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, but he
faltered in the short program and came away with a fifth-place
finish. Why? Because, as he told us during an interview, Nathan was
too concerned about what other people were saying and thinking about
him.He forgot why he was there.
The best performers learn to find the security of acting solely out of
their own values. They put aside reputational fears and focus solely on their
own values and motivations.
How do they do this? It starts with clearly understanding
identity.Who are you? What do you care about and stand for? These
seem like easy questions, but have you actually taken the time to think
about them?
To understand your identity, we advise creating a values credo (信
条).Notice and write down your values and the things you care about,
the identity markers that define you. What brings you energy and joy?
What are your core characteristics and attributes? What do you most
respect in yourself and others?
The good news is that when you stay true to identity, reputation
usually takes care of itself.
When Nathan Chen returned to the Winter Olympics in Beijing in
2022, he was armed with his values credo. When he started feeling
uneasy about what the press, spectators, and judges were thinking
about, he successfully redirected those thoughts to remind himself why
he was there.
He fell in love with the sport and worked hard to achieve excellence
for one simple reason. It was fun.He loved skating.Inspired by his credo,
and this sense of joy, Nathan Chen stayed true to himself in Beijing and
blew the competition away. Now his identity includes that well-earned gold
medal.

Too much stress can make it more likely for a person to get sick, and
so scientists are trying to think of ways to keep people from being overly
stressed. In this experiment, scientists studied the effect of music on
stress.
Scientists asked women to either listen to relaxing music, nature
sounds, or to nothing.Following the music session, they had the
women stand in front of an audience and perform two tasks.First, each
woman had to give a speech.Second, each woman had to do complex
maths in her head. These two tasks make up the Trier Social Stress Task,
a method scientists use as a sure-fire way to make people feel stressed.
Scientists know that the body responds to stress by releasing cortisol
(皮质醇), and so they used it to measure stress.Scientists compared
cortisol levels after listening to music and at various times after doing the
Trier Social Stress Task. The scientists also measured an enzyme (酶)
called alpha-amylase.Alpha-amylase is important to your body as it kills
unwanted bacteria and it helps break down the food that you eat.Alpha-
amylase is also released by the nervous system in response to stress.
The scientists tested how classical music and nature sounds affect
levels of cortisol and alpha-amylase.The alpha-amylase levels of people
who listened to classical music went back to normal more quickly
compared to the people listening to nature sounds.
The people listening to relaxing music showed a stress response that
was shorter compared to the other groups. The shorter response helps to
prevent the body from getting worn out. This means that listening to
relaxing music might help to improve the stress response and health.
The results of this study were a bit mixed.Scientists still have a lot of
work to do to see if listening to music can reduce stress by lowering
cortisol levels in the body.Until we know more, maybe play some tunes
or listen to some nature sounds when you feel stressed.Even if it doesn’t
directly help your stress level, it’s still nice to hear a good song.

第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选
项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
We need to be conscious of the fact that people around us influence us
in subtle ways that may encourage us, or keep us from moving
forward.36.( ) Here are some points we need to keep in mind.
The circle of five.
Motivated speaker Jim John famously said, “You’re the average
of the five people you spend most of your time with.” 37.( ) If
this “circle” of people is goal-driven, and encouraging, we can
experience a positive impact on our actions. On the other hand, if the
people around us are negative and restrictive, we may subconsciously
“live-up” to these qualities and stunt our own personal growth in the
process.
38. ( )
How do you identify who is influencing you? Be mindful of the
conversations you have with people and the activities you engaged in with
them. What are the opinions that dominate in your social group? What are
the similarities between you and the five people you are constantly close
to? If there is a difference between what you are and where you want to
be, look at your circle of five and you will see how instrumental they are
in influencing your path.Identify and exclude time and energy vampire’s
from your circle of five.
Nourish your circle.
Once you identify the people who belong to your reference group, it
is important to nourish these relationships.39.( ) Different
individuals evolve at a different pace. The important part is to be aware of
this living and changing “circle of five”.Of course, five is a rough
guide. It could be slightly more or less.Let this circle of five motivate
you, help you gain courage, and take the right actions.
40. ( ) Play this role sincerely and demonstrate a growth mind
set to anyone who lists you as part of their circle of five.
A. Know your circle.
B. Enrich your circle.
C. Do you know who are in your circle?
D. Over time, this core circle may change.
E. How can we make use of it to live a better life?
F. The influence of those around us can be quite significant.

56. listening 本空格前面是介词about,因此这里填入动词-ing形式作
其宾语。be enthusiastic about doing sth表示“对做某事有热情”。
60. will continue 本句的时间状语为in the years to come,因此这里应
用一般将来时。
61. who/that 本空格前的people为先行词,因此这里填入关系代词
who或that引导定语从句。
62. is 本句主语为the number而非people,因此这里应用表示单数概

63. Although/Though/While 前后两个分句意义存在转折关系,因此
这里填入连词Although/Though/While引导让步状语从句。
64. a 本空格后面的名词way是可数名词,因此这里填入不定冠词a。

参考范文:
What leads to success?
There is no denying that a variety of factors contribute to one’s
personal success, such as talent, luck, education, and hard work. It
seems to me that hard work plays the most important role in one’s
achieving success.
Let me give you an example to demonstrate my point. Lang Lang is
arguably one of the most well-known pianists in the world. Needless to
say, he has a special gift for music. However, never should we ignore
the fact that he practiced playing the piano for eight hours a day when he
was very young. Fundamentally speaking, it was his hard work that
made him stand out from the crowd and win a position in the world stage.
If you want to succeed, just work hard. The harder you work, the
luckier you will be.
第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构
成一篇完整的短文。
It was ten years ago.I was a shy girl with few words. In every social
occasion, I avoid having conversations with strangers.
However, I was fond of listening to and telling stories. As the
storytellers on stage tell interesting stories, the audience laughed and
wept and sang.Like everyone else, I was attracted by them and admire
them.I kept telling myself in my heart:“I love stories! These are my
kind of people! I want to be a storyteller!”
Then one day I heard about an upcoming storytelling event in my
town and decided to attend.
Needless to say, storytelling necessitated getting up on a stage under
bright lights and addressing strangers.Storytelling also required using a
microphone and tons of memorization.Let’s not forget self-confidence
and the ability to act that were also needed! Where was I going to get the
talent, memory, and courage needed to become a storyteller?
Next to dying, public speaking was my greatest fear.I must be out
of my mind! I thought to myself. My memory isn’t that great. What if I
get up there and forget my story?
However, I didn’t want to fail, and the opportunity to give the
gift of laughter or touch people’s hearts with heartwarming stories meant
more to me than the pain of self-discipline it would require to become a
storyteller. All I had to do was grab myself by the neck and march forward
through my wall of fears.
The first time I went on stage, I felt like I was being led to the
guillotine (断头台).One hundred pairs of eyes are fixed on me as I
stand on stage performing a humorous story. My hands were icy cold,
and my mind went completely blank. As a matter of fact, my knees
trembled as I walked down the steps.Nothing improved once I was in the
hall.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式作答。
I didn’t want to give up, and my hard journey of practice
began.
Finally, the big day of the storytelling event came when I had to
rise to the challenge.
参考范文:
I didn’t want to give up, and my hard journey of practice began.I
started to tell stories every day, sometimes in front of my classmates and
sometimes in front of the mirror in my living room.Within a few months of
deliberate practice, I spoke more naturally and fluently.More
importantly, my self-esteem began to rise and my confidence started to
improve noticeably.Eventually, I got into the habit of speaking in public
and I became more comfortable talking with new people. As a matter of
fact, the more people there were, the more excited I was.I was a
different girl from the shy one who was afraid of strangers and public
speaking.I had changed myself dramatically, which was simply
amazing!
Finally, the big day of the storytelling event came when I had to rise
to the challenge.Unlike the first time, I went on the stage with ease and
relaxation.I told a well-prepared and brilliant story in a vivid way.A big
round of applause proved that I had done a great job.A thrill of excitement
(and relief) blasted through me.Recognition was not common in my life
before this.Never before had I experienced such a feeling of achievement.
All these wonderful changes in my life came about when I listened to my heart and conquered my fears.
