What will the future houses be like Will they have gardens on their walls Can they control the houses’ temperature Architects believe that there are many different possibilities. But the only thing for sure is that the houses will be as green as possible.
The Tree House: Many architects would like to build a “tree house” like a leaf. The surface of the house collects sunlight during the day. The sunlight energy can be used to heat water, drive household machines, and even provide fresh air for the home. The “root” of the house is deep under the ground. It uses the soil to control the home’s temperature.
The Lizard (蜥蜴) House: Like a lizard, changing colour with the weather is the most important design of a lizard house. When it’s in the bright sun, the cover of the house will turn white to protect it from strong heat. During cloudy days, it turns dark and takes in as much light and heat as possible to produce energy for lighting.
The Garden House: Food production will be one part of the house design. Gardens may appear on the outside walls of the house. People can plant vegetables on them. So they just need to walk outside and collect vegetables every day.
The Self-cleaning House: Things like floor, wall, and sofa in the Self-cleaning House will be cleaned or dried by themselves. People don’t need to clean them or get them dried under the sun, so that they can have more time to rest.

I went to the volunteer work orientation (培训) at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital in California several days ago.
Before I went there, I thought it was just a meeting for us to learn some information on how to do volunteer work. To my surprise, this meeting lasted for four hours! It told us many things about how to be a good volunteer at hospital.
For example, Shannon C. Graham, the director, told us to keep eye contact while offering help and never wait to be asked but offer help first. She also told us to bend down (弯腰) to listen while patients are talking to show that we’re willing to hear. We should lead them to ask others for help and never say “It is not my business” if we can’t answer their questions.
For the whole meeting, Miss Graham taught us how to satisfy patients through our words, body language and manners. It impressed (使……印象深刻) me a lot. Americans pay so much attention to serving people with a professional attitude (专业的态度).
I suddenly realized why many people feel foreigners are really nice and friendly. They have been trained to do so since they were young. They always ask themselves: How do people feel toward my service How can I improve to let them feel better I really like this kind of culture.

When you finish some chores at home, will your parents give you a reward (奖励) It is common for parents to do that. But some people do not think it is a good idea.
One of them is Susie Walton, an education expert. She believes if kids get rewards, they will think that housework is not worth (值得) doing unless they get something in return. Kids won’t sweep the floor if they see it is dirty. But they will if their parents reward them for it. Walton also said, “A home is a living place for everyone in the family. It’s important for kids to see that we all should play our part in keeping our home clean.”
Other people don’t think so. They believe that rewards encourage kids to do more chores. Rewarding also teaches them real world lessons. They can learn that we need to work to make money.
Now, there are also mobile phone apps like ChoreMonster. With the app, kids get points after doing chores. After getting some points, they can do something they like. For example, parents will allow them to play video games for half an hour if they get 80 points.
So each side seems to have their own reasons. Whether you give children rewards depends on your own ideas. Maybe you have better ways to solve this problem.
根据材料内容选择最佳答案。
( )1.Which of the following is Susie Walton’s opinion
A.Don’t ask kids to do housework. B.Don’t give kids rewards for doing chores.

( )4.Where can we find the topic in the passage
A.In the first paragraph. B.In the second paragraph.

Let’s try our best to protect the environment
Dear friends,
I’m a student of Grade 9 in Jinan. As we know, we have only one Earth. But in recent years, many disasters happened on the Earth and unusual weather appeared very often. All these bad things were caused by the terrible environment, but the terrible environment was caused by humans. As students in Jinan, what should we do
First, we should spread something unusual to protect our environment. For example, we can give talks on how important the environment is. Second, we should save water and electricity in our daily life. Third, in order to reduce air pollution, it’s better to go to school by bus or bike or on foot. Fourth, we can sort the garbage into four categories: recyclable, harmful, dry and wet waste. And we can reuse bags instead of plastic bags.
If we all keep doing these things, I believe the environment will be better and better. Let’s try our best!
