One day, 12 year old Sean Redden surfed the Internet and went to a popular chat room. Just as he was about to be offline, he saw a name he'd never seen there before, Susan. Her brief message was “Would someone help me?”
Sean typed back, “What's wrong?” A moment later he received this message, “I can't breathe. Help me! I can't get out of my chair.”
Oh, man, Sean thought. Pretending to be paralyzed (瘫痪) was a bad joke. Then he wondered what if she really is sick “Hey, Mom!” he called. “There's a kid here who's sick or something.” Sharon looked at the computer screen. “It's not just some game, is it?” she asked.
The message was not a joke. Susan was actually a 20 year old student, working late at night at a college library near Helsinki, Finland — almost 7,000 miles away from Sean's home in Texas. While searching the Internet, she began to feel terrible pain all through her body. The library was silent and empty. The nearest phone was outside in the hallway. She couldn't move that far. Any movement caused the pain to get worse. Then she realized she might get help on the Internet.
“I don't think it's a joke, Mom,” Sean said. And he typed, “Where are you?” After a long while, the letters appeared, “Finland.” Sean and Sharon couldn't believe it. Not knowing what else to do, Sharon called the local police.
Sharon explained the situation to the officer Amy Schmidt. Schmidt told Sharon to try to get the sick girl's phone number. Texas police called the international telephone operator and asked to be connected to the proper agency (机构) in Finland. The call was put through to a nearby rescue station. The Texas police gave Susan's address to the Finnish operator. When Sean heard that, he typed, “Help is on the way.”
In a few minutes, Susan heard people running down the hallway outside the door. Suddenly, the door opened. Emergency workers and three policemen ran in. Susan turned once more to the computer, “They are here. Thanks. Bye bye.”

A new trend called “praise groups” or “in need of praise” chat groups has become popular on the social media. In Chinese culture, where modesty (谦逊) is valued, openly seeking and giving praise is uncommon. These chat groups provide a platform for people to receive compliments (赞扬) and encouragement, which are often lacking in their daily lives.
To join a praise group, users can pay a fee on e commerce sites, starting at 50 yuan for five minutes of compliments. The group members will then show the person with praises and kind words. The compliments can be designed for a friend or loved one as well. Participants have found that being praised by strangers can help lift their spirits and improve their self confidence.
For example, Meng Zha, a student at Shanghai's Tongji University, tried the service and found it amusing and uplifting. She received compliments on her appearance and even quotes (引用) from popular songs. Ms Meng couldn't help but laugh at the compliments and expressed her desire to post such high quality praises in the future.

第二节(满分25分)

When she looked around her house, Betty Margaret saw lots of electronics. Along with the usual things like her laptop and smartphone, there were all of her kids' electronic devices: cell phones, video game devices and more! There seemed to be more than enough ways for her and her three children to be online all day, every day.
Ms Margaret worried that her kids were becoming too dependent on the Internet and electronics. Then she began to reread one of her favorite books, Henry Thoreau's Walden, which gave Ms Margaret an idea. Thoreau spent 2 years in a simple cabin without running such luxuries as computers and electronic devices for a while.
Ms Margaret talked with her kids and explained that she wanted the family to try living for 6 months without Internet, cell phones, TV, and video games. Ms Margaret writes articles for a newspaper in Australia, and had written several books as well. She told her children that if they agreed, she would write a book about their experience and they could go on a trip abroad with the money from sales of the book. Her three children agreed, and “the experiment” as Ms Margaret called, began.
Over the course of the experiment, the Margaret's children had different reactions to life without electronics. Before the experiment began, Anni, the eldest of the children, read books more than her younger brother and sister. She therefore had a relatively easy adjustment to the family's new lifestyle. Anni could also use the library's computer for her homework. Bill, who loved to play video games before the experiment began, had to find a way to spend all of his new free time. He started to spend more time practicing his saxophone (萨克斯管). Susan, the youngest child in the family, had the hardest time adjusting to life without electronics. She felt restless for the first weeks and later, influenced by her elder sister, gradually began to find interest in the novel experiences brought by various books.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。
Upon having their daily family gathering after dinner, Ms Margaret, wearing a mysterious smile, announced the big news that they had come to the end of “the experiment”.
The vivid description of their true and funny experience toward the new lifestyle undeniably contributed to the hit of the book.

I'm Li Hua, a senior 2 student in our city. Knowing the museum is recruiting volunteer interpreters during the summer holiday, I am writing to apply for the post advertised on the Internet.
I am convinced I have the right qualifications for it. For one thing, with fluent oral English, I have no difficulty in communicating with foreign visitors. For another, not only am I familiar with the history and traditions of our city, but also I have strong affection for them, which enables me to provide visitors with more professional service. Unexpectedly, the three children didn't jump up and rush to fetch their beloved smartphones. Instead, Anni and Susan sitting reflectively. Bill shrugged and said, “Saxophone has won my overall interest from video games.” A surge of satisfaction flew through the mother's mind and she thought she had made the right decision.
The vivid description of their true and funny experience toward the new lifestyle undeniably contributed to the hit of the book. It dawned on a number of parents to follow her suit and guide their own children to a more reasonable and scientific way when approaching electronic devices. What a hard yet meaningful experience that highlights everything good outside of the virtual world!
