A
Nobody expects a natural disaster to strike. Neither does anyone know the impact it can have on life. The following measures can save your life in an emergency.
Typhoon
Typhoons occur in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, particularly in exposed regions like the Caroline Islands, the Philippines, and Japan. The best place to hide during a typhoon is a secure basement or a bathroom with no windows. A must have device is a battery powered weather radio, through which you will hear evacuation orders or in other cases, instructions on how to survive in your shelter and learn about the weather situation.
Flood
Floods occur more often than any other natural disaster and change the landscape dramatically. They are usually caused by intense rainfalls lasting for days. Don't try to be the bravest person around and stay in your house. Once you hear the evacuation warning, leave for safer higher grounds with your important papers in a waterproof container.
Avalanche (雪崩)
An avalanche can hit when you are enjoying Alpine skiing in a dreamlike location. It is very fast and disastrous, burying everything in its way under tons of snow. When an avalanche starts, try to move to the side of the slope as fast as you can. If you get buried in the snow, dig an air pocket to be able to keep breathing. Wait for the rescue team to find you and don't waste your energy shouting or digging frantically. Call out when you hear the team approaching.
Wildfire
Wildfires spread at an amazing speed and destroy everything in their way. If you are caught in a wild fire, use a wet cloth to cover your nose and mouth to ensure that you can breathe. Try to stay upwind of the fire at all times and get close to a pond or river. Stay low and cover yourself with wet clothing, a blanket, or soil until the fire passes.
1.Among the four natural disasters, which one requires people to hide indoors

From climbing a human ladder to swimming with the crocodiles (鳄鱼), there's nothing this Spanish botanist wouldn't do in the name of plants.
Carlos Magdalena the Spanish botanist tried to ignore the “Crocodile Danger” sign as he walked into the lagoon. Based in the hot houses and labs of London's Kew Gardens, he thought he'd spotted a new waterlily species and it wouldn't be the first time he'd risked his life doing his job. His mission is to save the world's most endangered plants. As_well_as_Harrison_Ford's_film_character,_the_great_gardener_is_also_known_as_the_Plant_Whisperer._He's suffered dehydration in the planet's largest desert, driven through rivers to reach an uncommon vegetation and experienced sickness in the Peruvian Andes, where he climbed a human ladder next to a towering drop to reach a rare flower.
“Directly or indirectly plants provide the air we breathe, medicines, clothes, shelter, food and drink,” he says in a firm voice. “Without them we wouldn't be here. It's as simple as that.”
Carlos grew up rolling the peaks and valleys of northern Spain in search of natural wonders but quickly learned all was not well.
There are some 400,000 plant species, with many more waiting to be discovered, and it's estimated that a quarter of them are facing dangers of dying out. “They need our help and we should use whatever means possible to ensure their survival.”
Often peering into microscope late into night, Carlos marked himself out in the botanic world. Before long he came to understand that plants have a way of talking and to understand their needs, you had to listen to them. His work was daunting (令人却步的) but he eventually triumphed. “It was like scoring the winning goal in a World Cup final,” he says.
4.What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 suggest
A.He was good at gardening.

B.His scoring a goal in the World Cup final.
C.His future study on preserving endangered plants.
D.His successful examples of saving endangered plants.

With humans encroaching (侵入) more and more on wildlife habitats, animals are finding that the best way to survive isn't to pack up and move — it's to adapt to the night life. A variety of previously daytime animals such as foxes, deer and boars have become active at night to avoid human activity out of fear. But this nighttime switch comes with its own risks.
Researchers looked at how 62 species of animals on six continents changed their behavior in response to human activities such as hunting, farming, and development. The studies employed various technologies to follow the animals, from GPS trackers to motion activated cameras.
Once night falls, the animals surveyed became far more active than they were before humans arrived, hunting and looking for food in the dark. For example, animals that used to split their activity evenly between day and night typically increased their nighttime activity to 68%.
The team also found the animals responded similarly to these human encroachments, regardless of whether human activity directly affected them. So, a deer might become more active at night simply because it sees humans hiking nearby, not because it's being hunted.
The researchers believe these nighttime behaviors not only allow humans and animals to coexist more peacefully, they may be able to give us hints as to how to plan conservation efforts accordingly, such as limiting human activity during times when a specific species is more active. But moving to the nightlife could also have downsides for these animals. A nighttime lifestyle can reduce an animal's ability to hunt and find food successfully and can even affect its ability to find a mate. Switching to a nighttime lifestyle can affect natural patterns of life even if these animals are doing so to reduce their interaction with humans. So, just because animals are becoming more active at night doesn't mean they've escaped the influence of humans.
8.Why are animals becoming more active at night
A.It is easier to find food at night.
B.It is easier to escape being hunted.
C.They have got used to nightlife.
D.They can be less affected by humans.
9.How did the researchers find the animals' behavioral changes
A.They followed and watched the animals.
B.They compared different animals.
C.They used modern technologies.
D.They found more animals at night.
10.What can we infer from the fourth paragraph
A.Deer can get used to nightlife easily.
B.Animals can be affected only when being hunted.
C.Any human encroachment can affect animals.
D.Animals should stay away from humans.
11.What is the passage mainly about
A.Animals move to nightlife due to human encroachments.
B.Animals have their own ways to get used to life changes.
C.Animals should be well protected before it is too late.
D.The benefits and risks of animals' nightlife style.
D
Efforts were under way in Bangladesh (孟加拉国) to deliver food and drinking water to millions of people struggling after a heavy rain led to flooding, which hit a quarter of the country. There are around 3.5 million Bangladeshis at risk of river flooding every year according to a 2015 report by the World Bank.
On Wednesday, at least 17 of the country's 64 districts (地区), mostly in the northern and north eastern Sylhet, were suffering from the natural disaster. Government officials said at least 36 people had been killed and about 4.5 million people stuck so far. The floods also caused damage to agriculture (农业), electricity, and clean water supply.
Sylhet is among the worst affected, with several areas without electricity. “Many people are in great need of food and drinking water,” said Enam Ahmed, 45, living in the worst hit Sunmaganj district. “There is water everywhere but no drinking water. Flood shelters are filled with people but they are not getting enough food,” he said.
The situation in Bangladesh has been worsened by rain water falling down from the surrounding hills of India's Meghalaya state, which received more than 970mm (38 inches) of rain on Sunday, according to a government report.
“The flood situation in the three Barak valley districts continues to be very serious. Army rescuers have evacuated thousands of trapped people to safe places. 14 rescue teams with more than 70 boats and over 400 men have been pressed into action in the heavily flooded districts,” said a local flood control official. About 5.5 million people have been displaced,_about 3.7 million of whom are staying in government run temporary (临时的) shelters on higher ground.
Locals in the flood affected areas said they had never seen such serious floods before.
12.What is the second paragraph mainly about
A.The role played by government officials.
B.The people trapped in the disaster.
C.The number of districts in the country.
D.The damage caused by the floods.
13.What do we know about the flood shelters
A.There is a crying need for food.
B.They can provide enough clean water.
C.They are too old to hold people.
D.There are few villagers staying inside.
14.What does the underlined word “displaced” in Paragraph 5 mean
A.Called on. B.Checked out.
C.Moved away. D.Sent in.
15.What can we infer from the text
A.More rescue efforts are needed.
B.The floods hit the whole country.
C.The disaster is the biggest ever.
D.Rivers nationwide are at risk.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
On an Arctic island, an enormous vault (保险库) has been built deep underground. Like any bank vault, it holds treasures. __16__ This vault holds seeds from food crops around the world.
The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is in Norway. It is a seed bank, a place to store and protect seeds. More than 800 thousand different seed samples rest here. All are dried and kept in temperature and moisture controlled conditions. __17__
Many nations have their own seed banks, too. One main purpose is to make sure that even if crops fail, there will still be seeds for farmers to plant.
__18__ Loss of diversity can cause problems. That was made clear in Ireland in the 1840s. People grew and ate just one kind of potato, which had no defense when a disease struck. The potato crops failed, and one million people died as a result.
Seeds hold information for scientists. __19__ They might grow into plants that can resist pests and disease. They might grow where other plants can't. Even the seeds of an invasive plant like kudzu are saved in seed banks. Perhaps scientists will find out their use someday.
A nation commonly has more than one seed bank. Still, a backup plan is a good idea. Floods, fires, war, and other disasters can destroy storehouses of precious seeds. __20__ The seeds come from all over the world, and they belong to everyone, not just one nation.
A.But you won't find precious jewels or metals here.
B.That's why the Svalbard Global Seed Vault was created.
C.Another main purpose of seed banks is to protect diversity.
D.The seeds of plants that are no longer farmed may be useful.
E.They will still have seeds to plant, crops to grow, and food to eat.
F.The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is nicknamed the Doomsday Vault.
G.This means the air in the vault stays dry and the temperature is always the same.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The four mountain climbers were still breathing heavily as they looked out into the distance. The views from the top of the mountain were breathtaking. In all directions, valleys, forests and other mountains were laid out before them. They could even see the small wooden houses of the village where they had spent the night and the route they had taken to reach the top of this small but dangerous mountain. Laughing loudly, they were surprised at their courage in climbing such a steep and rocky mountain slope. Filled with an enormous sense of achievement, the four young climbers patted each other on the back.
As the other three continued to enjoy the views, Jason, the leader of the group, stared at the horizon with a troubled look on his face.
“What is it, Jason?” Sofia, the youngest of the group, asked.
“Those dark clouds in the distance mean a heavy storm is fast on the way,” Jason replied. He remembered the villagers had warned him of the unpredictable weather conditions on top of the mountain and that a terrible storm could appear from nowhere.
“But it's so warm and sunny here. I don't think the storm is coming this way,” Sofia said, more in hope than expectation.
However, Jason feared the worst and knew only too well what would happen if the storm caught them in the open. He addressed the group in a calm but serious tone, “If the storm hits us, the temperature will fall dramatically. The rain and mist will make it difficult for us to see where we are going and we could easily get lost or fall off a cliff. The wind will take our strength, so we need to get moving fast.”
The four mountain climbers packed up their facilities and immediately started back down the mountain. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the storm was upon them sooner than expected. The wind screamed in their ears, the driving rain stung (刺痛) their eyes and the mist made it impossible for them to see clearly.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。
With it getting dark, Jason decided that it was just too dangerous to continue.

Finally, the storm showed signs of stopping and the climbers decided to continue their way down the mountain.

参考范文:
Dear Martin,
I'm glad to hear that you are going to have an adventurous outdoor trip to Africa. I am writing to offer some suggestions.
When you go there, you should always carry some emergency food supplies. Anything with sugar in it, like chocolate, will boost your energy. Other important items are a torch, which helps you see in the dark, and a survival knife used to prepare food and protect yourself against wild animals. A first aid kit is absolutely necessary. Also, it is very important to find a good backpack, since it'll hold everything you need in the wild.
Wish you an enjoyable trip!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
参考范文:
With it getting dark, Jason decided that it was just too dangerous to continue. He gathered the group in the shelter of a large rock, where he noticed that the other three were frightened and looking to him for a way out. Pushed by responsibility and pressure of leadership, Jason, shouting against the wind, explained that the safest thing for the moment was taking shelter from the pouring rain. They had expected that the storm would pass very soon. However, as darkness settled over them, the shower swept in. How time dragged!
Finally, the storm showed signs of stopping and the climbers decided to continue their way down the mountain. Unbearably cold and hungry, they felt their way downward with great difficulty, eager for a miracle. Suddenly, something caught Jason's eye. Was it a flash of light There it was again ... and another! In response, Jason immediately flashed his torch, exclaiming, “Over here! We are here!” His companions joined in. Rescue eventually arrived. Seeing the climbers, all the searching villagers breathed a sigh of relief and lovingly helped them return to the village. You see, weather changes but love remains.
