Meet three inventors who have had useful ideas from a young age!
The 14-year-old Remya Jose from India found that it took much time to wash clothes by hand. So Remya studied how a normal washing machine worked. Then she took some recycled bicycle parts and used them to build her own machine. Remya’s washing machine is easy to use. The invention saves lots of time and helps people to stay fit, too. It’s useful in areas with little or no electricity.
At the age of 15, Ann Makosinski from Canada heard her friend in the Philippines was having problems doing her homework because she didn’t have reliable (可靠的) electricity at home in the evening. She wanted to help her friend, so she invented a flashlight to help her. The flashlight works from the heat of your hands when you hold it, so it doesn’t need expensive batteries (电池) or electricity.
As a young teenager, Kelvin Doe began to teach himself engineering. There were often serious problems with the electricity supply (供给) in his city, and this made daily life difficult for his family and friends. At 13, Kelvin started to invent and build special batteries. He made the batteries from acid (酸), soda, and recycled metal parts that he found in recycle bins. The energy from these produced electricity for the homes in his community. Kelvin believes if you pay attention to doing one thing, you can do an invention perfectly.

Since May 8, Boston Dynamics’ dog-like robot, Spot, has been in use at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park in Singapore to help encourage social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic (新冠肺炎疫情) according to a report in the South China Morning Post.
Singapore’s government is funding the experiment of the robotic dog, which will last for two weeks at the park during off-peak (非高峰的) hours.
“The robot isn’t enforcing (强制). It’s just giving people information and encouraging them,” Boston Dynamics founder Marc Raibert told CNBC. “When Spot is patrolling (巡逻) the area, there’s a parks officer nearby who can do whatever enforcement he decides is suitable. ”
Cameras fixed on Spot will scan the surroundings and help officers work out the number of visitors in the park, but they cannot read faces and won’t collect any personal information. It also carries a loudspeaker to broadcast a pre-recorded message to remind visitors of the importance of social distancing.
Without enough manpower, Singapore is turning to robotics to reduce the manpower required for park patrols and remind people about the risks they may be putting themselves and others in.
The question, however, is whether their use of Spot will be a good tool or will only attract more people to it instead.
If the two-week experiment proves successful, the government will consider using Spot at the park during peak hours. Singapore will also do studies to see if it’s worth using other Spots in other parks. Already, Singapore engineers are trying to improve Spot, making it tell if people are together in a group or strangers passing on the grass.
No one knows if Spot will stay after the pandemic is gone, but one thing is for sure: the robot is the hardest working dog in the world.

If you watch the sky for about an hour after the sun goes down, you may see some moving stars. But they’re not real stars. They’re man-made satellites (人造卫星). And the biggest of all is the International Space Station(ISS). From May to July is the best season to watch the ISS flying over the earth. And people can see it with their eyes.
The ISS is the biggest satellite and scientists want to live on it. They think that the best way to learn more about space is to live there.
When the space station is finished, it will be like a city in space. People will stay and study there with many of the things they have at home. Laboratories, living rooms and power stations are being built. The ISS is the most expensive space program. Billions of dollars are being spent on it every year.
Scientists hope that the ISS will be a stepping stone for future space exploration(探测). “The ISS will help us understand the human body better, explore space and study the earth. It can help us make life on the earth better,” said Kathryn Clark, an ISS scientist.
Sixteen countries are part of the program: the US, Russia, Canada, Japan, Brazil and 11 European countries. China isn’t an ISS country, but it has helped with some of the experiments. In 2003, China sent some rice up to the ISS to find out what space would do to it.

Banerjee made his Braigo last year for a school science contest. Since then, he has caught the interest of a company in the USA.The company put some money in Banerjee’s machine last November, but they did not say how much money they put in.
Banerjee also got $35, 000 from his father to help him start the project. His father explained why he gave so much money to his son. What is the most surprising is that it was not 46 earlier, although the great inventor Leonardo da Vinci had 47 pictures for bicycles and flying machines and some other things. Those things were not produced 48 long after he died.
A person riding a bicycle uses very little 49 to make the bicycle move, and there is no pollution at all when you are riding. Even so, in most developed 50 , most people don’t go to work by bicycle. It is not 51 the bicycles are expensive or people feel 52 if they ride to work. It’s because the number of cars on the roads becomes larger. It certainly becomes more 53 to ride a bicycle.
