High School Programs in Australia
Beautiful weather, friendly people and a widely varied landscape are just a few of the reasons you should choose to spend time in Australia as a high school student. Here are some programs you can choose from.
High School Exchange
Individuals studying for a semester or full year in Australia will usually live with a host family. This is a great opportunity for students to see what daily family life is like in Australia. Students learning English will see their language skills improve from communicating with their new friends and family, while those familiar with the language already can use this opportunity to learn more about the day to day life in Australia.
Youth Travel Tours
Travel tours for teens are a wonderful way for high school students to spend a short, concentrated amount of time abroad. Tours are usually for different themes such as cooking, adventure travel, or volunteerism. Students will have a fun, unique experience while incorporating educational components like environmental or cultural studies — and all without missing your normal coursework back home.
Summer Study Program
For students who only have the few months of summer break available, an advanced summer program is perfect. Just keep in mind, the summer of the northern hemisphere is actually the winter of Australia. Oftentimes these summer programs can be partnered with universities that will allow students to receive college credits.
1.What can High School Exchange offer
A.A good command of what we learn at school.
B.A better understanding of Australian culture.
C.A wonderful way to communicate with famous teachers.
D.A precious chance to make friends from different countries.
2.Who may want to choose Youth Travel Tours
A.Those who are interested in painting.
B.Those who are interested in cooking.
C.Those who like doing adventure sports.
D.Those who want to take a part time job.
3.Which program should you choose if you want to earn college credits

Emma Rosen had one of the best and most sought after jobs in the civil service in the UK. 20,000 candidates (候选人) applied, but fewer than 1,000 were offered jobs. But it turned out that she didn't like sitting at a desk all day, and she struggled to see how what she was doing would make much difference to anything.
Instead of going to work every day and complaining about her job until she reached retirement age, Emma decided to find out what made her happy, what her skills were, and what sort of career would need them. She wrote a list of the jobs she had wanted to do since childhood and set about getting two week placements (安排) in all of them over a year.
She was 24 years old, and she wanted to have tried out at least 25 different jobs before her 25th birthday. She spent the months before she quit her job saving up her year off, and spent all her free time setting up the different jobs.
A year later, Emma said her favorites were the jobs that were more creative, relevant to travel or were outdoors. “Things like travel writing, archaeology, farming, working with the police, being a blogger, an explorer and an author,” she said.
“Considering that I am now working as a writer and speaker, communication skills in both verbal (口头的) and written form have been the most important. There were also plenty of more technical skills that I learned, like website design, social media management, building a commercial brand and conducting interviews.”
Emma added she also saw her softer people focused skills improve. “I could be very adaptable, quickly build relationships and accept change — I could walk into a new team or situation and get on well with everyone. Finally, there were things like showing that I was active, an independent and creative thinker as well as an innovative problem solver — I could certainly show that I could think outside the box!”
4.What does the underlined word “sought after” mean in the first paragraph
A.Complicated. B.Desirable.
C.Ordinary. D.Traditional.
5.Why did Emma quit her job in the civil service
A.The job made no difference to anything.
B.The job made her complain all day long.
C.She was struggling to do the current job.
D.She was eager to realize her self worth.
6.Which of the following best describes Emma's favorite jobs
A.They are care free and popular ones in civil service.
B.They are only the ones needing communication skills.
C.They are where creativity and skills were badly needed.
D.They have nothing to do with travel or outdoors.
7.What can we infer from the last two paragraphs
A.Emma benefited much from experiencing a variety of jobs.
B.Emma acquired technical skills to build a commercial brand.
C.Emma was flexible enough to change situations to her favor.
D.Emma thought independently to be a creative problem solver.
C
Technology has changed almost every way of our life and now it seems to be the time to update education systems around the world. Children and young adults make up one third of the Internet users, so it's no surprise that they are more hyper connected (超连接的) than their parents.
In a survey of 1,400 educators, most of them believe that classrooms of the future will be centered on personalized learning. This student centered way will allow children to choose their own pace (节奏) and learning goals based on personal interests, all of which can be guided by artificial intelligence (AI), chatting robots (chatbots) and video based learning.
AI in education specially focuses on telling what a student does or doesn't know, and then develops personalized courses for each student. Chatbots are also quickly becoming a key tool in the next generation education. Designed to simplify the exchange of ideas and information between students and computers, chatbots provide a lot of benefits. Although video based learning may not necessarily be considered as creative as AI or chatbots, 98% of the educators view it as an important part of personalized learning experiences. Some schools report bringing video teaching into their courses in some way, but even higher demand for video based learning may come from students in the near future.
The new classroom learning style is completely different from the traditional learning style and is considered to be a great change in how students get information. However, research has shown that children will keep getting information from books besides screens. Obviously, low tech schools are more likely to believe that human interaction is important when it comes to keeping children interested and excited to learn.
Although we may not be in the age of online teachers, the benefits of technology as a teaching aid are true. However, what's more important is that these aids are helping keep students rather than technology at the heart of education.
8.What will future classrooms focus on according to the survey
A.Self paced learning.
B.Learning without goals.
C.The teacher centered way.
D.The traditional learning way.
9.What are chatbots used to do
A.Create wealth. B.Train educators.
C.Improve communication. D.Develop courses.
10.What can we learn from Paragraph 4
A.Low tech schools are on the rise.
B.Children will completely depend on screens.
C.The way to get information should be changed.
D.Students will still get information from books.
11.What is the text mainly about
A.Why education is so important.
B.How robots will replace teachers.
C.How technology shapes the future education.
D.Why computers will play a role in the future education.
D
In most cases, people pick the easiest way out: the path of least resistance. Yet, it is the hard choice — the path of most resistance — that is more beneficial and provides most success in the long run. How do these paths differ What are the dangers of an easy life What are the rewards for a hard life
Taking the path of least resistance means choosing the easiest available option, without thinking about its long term consequences. For example, you eat whatever and whenever you like. It may feel nice at first but they have a very high price — guaranteed obesity (肥胖). Most people in modern world follow this path, and this is why so many people struggle without self control, good habits, etc.
The path of most resistance is about choosing the option that will lead to more personal growth, even if it means suffering in the early stage. For example, it may cost you a lot to quit watching TV for hours. But over the long term, you'll free up a lot of time that will lead to a more satisfying life than that of a couch potato. At first sight, this way is unattractive. It requires effort and loss of pleasure, and leads to potential suffering. Yet, on the other side of all that lies a world of more confidence and self control. In the end, they more than make up for the passing shallow pleasures.
We're lazy by nature. Some may point out that because of this laziness that we now enjoy so many wonders of technology that people in the past would kill to have. But ask the same individuals praising laziness if they would be happy living a life where everything is given to them the moment they think about it. They would have zero difficulties, no aims in life and no obstacle to get over and no wise human would want such an existence.
12.How does the author show the dangers of choosing the easy path
A.By asking questions.
B.By giving examples.
C.By giving explanations.
D.By making a comparison.
13.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.Watching TV for hours.
B.Getting shallow pleasures.
C.Having many life struggles.
D.Choosing the path of most resistance.
14.Which of the following would the author agree with
A.Life is to be enjoyed, not suffered.
B.There should be some challenges in life.
C.Set your life goals as early as possible.
D.Good habits provide short term pleasures.
15.What is the author's purpose in writing the text
A.To tell us humans are lazy by nature.
B.To encourage us to take the hard path of life.
C.To prove that laziness leads to wonders in life.
D.To show the common lifestyles of young people.

Jane was a disabled college student. Her travelling around mainly depended on a wheelchair, but Jane studied hard and got two degrees. Her kindness and determination deeply impressed her professors and many schoolmates, and she was loved by them.
May 19th 2019, that was the day Jane would graduate with her bachelor's degree. The graduation ceremony was to be held on the football field. Seats for the graduates were set up on the grass. While family, friends, and other audience members crowded into stadium, Jane's proud parents had travelled far to see her graduate.
Jane and other graduates would go to the stage at the end of the football field to receive their diplomas from schoolmaster. On that day, a folding chair was removed at the end of a row of graduates, and Jane's wheelchair fitted into the space nicely. When the graduation ceremony began, the schoolmaster gave an inspiring speech, encouraging students to work hard and dream big. Later, the period of presenting graduates with diplomas began.
Many graduates including Jane's good friend Carolyn, one by one walked across the football field in their graduation dresses and received their diplomas. They smiled brightly for the cameras and returned to their seats to cheers from the audience. At last, it was Jane's turn. Carolyn began pushing her across the field toward the ramp (斜坡) and the stage to help her get the diploma. Jane was thankful and joyful, expecting to celebrate the big moment in her life. And her parents watched her excitedly.
When moving forward, Carolyn and Jane felt the eyes of the crowd. Then sadly, near the ramp, one wheel of Jane's wheelchair sank deep into an unexpected big hole hidden in the grass. Then the wheelchair fell to one side and Jane fell on the grass. Her graduation dress was covered with wet mud. Jane's face burned with shame, embarrassment and shock at once. She was worried people would laugh, with tears in her eyes.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。
Carolyn rushed to help Jane get back into her wheelchair while keeping apologizing.

“Jane, you can change your dress before receiving the diploma,” said the warm hearted schoolmaster.

Carolyn rushed to help Jane get back into her wheelchair while keeping apologizing. Being too nervous, Jane couldn't make it, falling down again, though Carolyn had made all her efforts to help her. With hands covering her face, Jane wept helplessly. Everyone was looking in her direction with concern and encouragement and her parents were rushing here with a new dress rapidly. “Look up, Jane.” Carolyn whispered to Jane excitedly, “Everyone is caring about you and your parents are coming here!” Jane raised her head slowly, looking around, with tears rolling down her cheeks. At this time, the schoolmaster ran down to them, helping Carolyn carry Jane back into the wheelchair voluntarily.
“Jane, you can change your dress before receiving the diploma,” said the warm hearted schoolmaster. “Thank you for your considerateness, sir.” Jane took the new dress from her parents' hands and got dressed quickly. After pushing her to the stage in person, the headmaster awarded the diploma to Jane solemnly. At the meantime, the audience burst into thunderous applause. Everyone was celebrating the big moment for Jane and her parents were watching her proudly, when Jane felt thankful and joyful.
