1.Maybe I was too young, maybe she hid it too well, or maybe I was just too excited that Christmas was on the way.
2.In December, our excitement grew each day — lights appeared in the streets, Christmas cards arrived, and there was snow everywhere.
3.I was on my best behaviour as we opened the presents.
赏析:on my best behaviour用得形象又恰到好处。on one's best behaviour的英文释义是:to behave as well and politely as you can in order to please someone,从英文释义中可以看出汉语意思为“(为了取悦某人)竭力循规蹈矩”。
I want you both kids to behave well at Grandad's at Christmas.
____________________
Don't worry; ________________________.
With the College Entrance Examination approaching, ________________________.
1.I remember Granny sitting on my bed and singing softly until I fell asleep.
此处sitting on my bed 和 singing softly是并列宾语。在这两个动作后面又加上了时间状语从句until I fell asleep,表示sitting on my bed 和 singing softly两个动作一直持续到作者睡着。
2.Granny laughed so much that her paper hat fell off.
这句话使用了so ...that ...
3.When I think about what makes Christmas so magical, it's not just gifts and Father Christmas that come to mind.
When I think about what makes Christmas so magical是when引导的时间状语从句,在这个时间状语从句中what引导宾语从句,作think about的宾语。主句是一个强调句型,即“it+be+被强调部分+that+其他”,此处的被强调部分是not just gifts and Father Christmas。
I remember that my mother sat beside me and helped me with my homework until I finished it.
→I remember _____________________________________________________ until I finished it.
When I think about what is important in life, ________________________.
The boy in the back of the classroom ____________________ all the other students turned back to see what was happening.
A few weeks after that Christmas, Granny passed away.
古今中外死亡都是讳莫如深的话题,所以英语词汇对“死亡”的委婉说法也很多,例如:pass away, breathe one's last, fall asleep, go west, kick the bucket, pay one's debt to nature, go to a better world, go home, close one's eyes, depart, leave us, have found rest等。
She heard the news that her beloved grandmother __________________, frozen with shock.
Granny and I made sugar biscuits, stuffed the turkey and then I sat on my granny's lap and we sang Christmas songs.
第一个and连接Granny和I;第二个和第三个and都连接动作。
The rain came pouring down, the streams rose and the winds ________________________.

One year, our son Tom, who was six years old, asked for a new sound system.“Please bring me a new stereo so I don't have to listen to my dad's old music,” he told the shop's Santa.Jenny and I took note.
On Christmas Eve, we let Tom sleep in our bed at the back of the house, where the sound of Santa wouldn't wake him. Then I went to my NASA-level workshop in the spare bedroom and spent the whole night putting together that stereo.
At one point, I took a break to move Tom from our bed to his — he was afraid that Santa might think he wasn't home and would forget to leave presents behind. He moved a bit while I carried him but never opened his eyes.At last, I finished the stereo and positioned it by the tree.Jenny and I fell asleep early that Christmas morning, filled with satisfaction. At 7:00 a.m., Tom woke us up and led us to the Christmas tree in the hall.He fell in love with the sound system.
A few days passed, and Tom asked me a surprising question.“Dad, how did I get from your bed to mine?” Ever the clever one, I said, “Santa moved you! Isn't that fun?” He said nothing, walking into the hall and looking closely at the floor. He came back, arms folded.“Dad, we need to talk, but Mom can't hear. You are Santa Claus! Look at the wheel marks on the carpet. The stereo was rolled out of that bedroom and down the hallway.” I was shocked. He was only six.
His big concern was that we should not tell his mother, because he was certain she didn't know.“It will be our little secret forever,” I told him, much to his delight.“We men have to stick together.”
After that, Tom got to be Santa on Christmas when we donated presents to a needy family — he just loved it.

A.He didn't want his mother to hear.

D.He saw his father putting together the stereo at night.
√
根据倒数第三段中的“You are Santa Claus! Look at the wheel marks on the carpet.”
6.From the story, how do you find Tom

I've never visited the town of Wetumka in Oklahoma of the US. But I know people there celebrate a day every year when they laugh at themselves. 8 And they plan a town festival on the last Saturday of September to celebrate it.
It all started at 1950 when a man calling himself F. Bam Morrison arrived in Wetumka and persuaded local people to put up money to bring a circus to the town. 9 They thought he was a good guy.
Businessmen bought plenty of food, drinks, and souvenirs in preparation for the crowds of people. And Morrison sold tickets in advance. 10 They were happy with the thought of a circus in their own village.
On the day the circus parade was to march down the main street, happiness turned into disappointment when nothing happened. F. Bam had slipped away (溜走) in the night with all the money he had raised. 11 The people of Wetumka had been fooled.
It didn't take long for their disappointment to turn into enjoyment, however. Someone came up with the idea of holding a four-day celebration. 12 They called their party The Sucker Festival. People celebrate the fact that they had been cheated. And now Sucker Day is an important event in Wetumka every year.
A.They call it Sucker Day.
B.So there would be no circus.
C.All the townspeople bought the tickets.
D.Everyone in town had heard about the festival.
E.They had all the food and goodies for the celebration.
F.Local people didn't know him, but they trusted his words.
G.F. Bam Morrison told the businessmen they had to make up their mind.
8.选A 根据设空上句中的“I know people there celebrate a day every year when they laugh at themselves”以及下句中的“they plan a town festival on the last Saturday of September to celebrate it”可知,选项A提到了节日的名字,承上启下,符合语境。
9.选F 根据设空前后句子“persuaded local people to put up money to bring a circus to the town”和“They thought he was a good guy.”
10.选C 根据上句“And Morrison sold tickets in advance.”
11.选B 根据设空后的“The people of Wetumka had been fooled.”
12.选E 根据设空前句中的“Someone came up with the idea of holding a four-day celebration.”
