Although she died more than twenty five years ago, many Americans still argue about Ayn Rand.People also continue to talk about her ideas and her interesting life.

While visiting an elementary school library in 2016, I noticed there were hardly any science fiction books for readers under 12.This discovery prompted me to spend the next five years researching the shortage of science fiction books for children in this age group.
I reached two big conclusions.First, I found that adults often think that kids can't understand science fiction — but they can.Second, I found that authors and illustrators (插画家) are not depicting characters from diverse backgrounds in children's stories about the future.
Diverse representation in science fiction is especially important because these authors are not only imagining futures, but also are the sorts of people who create those futures.
When science fiction authors imagine a wide variety of people like women, people of color and disabled people as the scientists of the future, then they provide models for more children to imagine themselves in those careers.Research has shown that seeing female scientists in media affects whether girls imagine themselves in STEM — science, technology, engineering and math careers. The first Black female astronaut, Mae Jemison, says that she was able to imagine herself going to space because as a young person she saw Nichelle Nichols playing Lieutenant Nyota Uhura on Star Trek.
An expert on race in science fiction says that science fiction must include a variety of humans rather than a variety of aliens to celebrate the potential of diversity in the future.
Science fiction authors could be leaders in the efforts to diversify children's books if creators fill the shortage of children's science fiction with stories that include characters from diverse backgrounds.
The burden is not only on creators, though.Educators and parents also need to seek out science fiction with diverse characters in order to make sure that children's book collections reflect a future that welcomes everyone.
8.What did the author find after visiting an elementary school library in 2016
A.Science fiction included a variety of humans and aliens.
B.Authors described characters from diverse backgrounds.
C.Readers under 12 almost had no science fiction books to read.
D.Readers under 12 could hardly understand science fiction.
9.What is especially important in science fiction according to the author
A.Diverse representation.
B.Understandable language.
C.Abundant aliens.
D.Fantastic plots.
10.What is the purpose of the quotation (引述) from Mae Jemison in Paragraph 4
A.To stress women's key role in space and science.
B.To justify influences of providing models in books.
C.To attract readers' interest and introduce who she is.
D.To indicate how important children's imagination is.
11.What can we learn from the last paragraph
A.Children's book collections welcome everyone and should be easily understood by all walks of people.
B.Everyone is welcome in the future so children's book collections should meet every child's need.
C.Only science fiction authors are to blame if children read science fiction lack of diverse characters.
D.Creators, educators and parents should provide science fiction with diverse characters for children.
D
Fantasy literature, a reading genre (类型) that was introduced from the Western world, has recently been developing rapidly in China. It is now popular among not only adult readers but also children.
A forum (论坛会) was recently held in Beijing during which participants agreed that such development trend would have an increasingly strong effect on children's literature in China.Mr Xu Dexia, director of China Children's Press and Publishing Group, believes fantasy fiction will continue to_heat_up in China this year though it is still in its beginning.

A senior editor of children's literature at the People's Literature Publishing House, Feng Zhen, says it is good to see that fantasy literature becomes popular in China.Fantasy literature is purely imported from Western countries.Chinese authors took some time to get used to it before being able to produce such stories of their own. That is why there has been blank in the domestic market. With the Harry Potter stories introduced into China, such books quickly became popular in this country.
“Even though Western fantasy literature is popular, Chinese children still have difficulty fully appreciating such stories simply because of different cultural backgrounds,” Mr Feng said.“Therefore, Chinese writers have a huge role to play in helping develop this branch of literature for our young readers.”
Mr Feng praised the success of Luoling's Magic, a best seller written by Chinese writer Chen Liuhuan. The book tells a 13 year old alien girl growing up on Earth. The series has sold 1.6 million copies since hitting the shelves.

18 year old Sadiya was born in Deora, a small village in eastern India, but moved to the city of Mumbai when she was three. Her father's small business was forced to close temporarily in 2020 and the family returned to her ancestral village.
However, it greatly shocked her when she found that attending school was uncommon in Deora, where almost half of the villagers couldn't read.Unable to afford textbooks, many families often withdrew their children from schools. They didn't wish to educate their children, many of whom had to work in the fields with parents though some had the desire to read.
Sadiya, the college girl with a strong sense of social responsibility, has been trying to seize opportunities to open doors for others.Fluent in Hindi, Urdu, and English, she often speaks at inter college events on the right to education and enjoys a high reputation among college students.
Used to taking on challenges, Sadiya was determined to do something for the children. One day last July, Sadiya sat down with her family elders and proposed the idea of setting up a library. Many shook their heads in disagreement — this wasn't how a young girl should spend her time.
After many discussions, Sadiya finally convinced them and gained access to her relative's guesthouse, mending it with D|S67 that she'd won in public speaking awards. She took the help of her uncle, Akbar, and cousin, Nawaz, and got to work.Walls were repainted, the bamboo roof was repaired and lights and bookshelves were fixed, and the room was filled with chairs and a long table.Vivid charts stuck on the walls — from anatomy (解剖) to transportation, lightened the space.Looking at the newly decorated “library”, Sadiya couldn't hold back her excitement while imagining the children reading books here by light.
All was ready except books. So what Sadiya was desperate to do next was fill the shelves with books. She drew on all her savings and purchased many books suitable for children online.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

第二节
参考范文:
But these books were far from enough. To ensure children get access to more books, Sadiya took pictures of the library and uploaded them online, calling on students to donate books to the children library. Before long, hundreds of new and secondhand books poured in, but they needed checking, classifying and arranging in order on the shelves, which took Sadiya, her uncle and cousin a whole week.Tired as Sadiya was, a smile lit up her face when she pictured the scene where children were buried in reading by the bookfilled shelves.
With everything ready, the library finally opened.Several children stepped in curiously, asking Sadiya, “Can we read the books?” “Sure.Welcome!” Sadiya encouraged them. Some chose what they liked, while others hesitated.Realizing they had trouble reading, Sadiya gathered them in a corner, teaching them from the very beginning.Soon more children joined in.Every night Sadiya spared some time to give lessons so that more children could gain knowledge from the books.Sadiya's efforts opened the wisdom door for them, which would surely make a great difference to their lives.
