Do you still remember the debate between sweet and salty zongzi during Dragon Boat Festival It seems that the differences between northerners and southerners have always been a popular topic among Chinese people. Now another difference has drawn wide attention: The way northerners and southerners shop for food at markets.
People from southern China might say they prefer to buy what they need for just one or two meals. It is normal for them to buy just half a Chinese cabbage, two potatoes and 0.25 kilograms of beef at a time. However, you may be laughed at if you do this in the north. Instead, buying enough vegetables and meat for a week is usual, reported China Daily.
Also, when you go to the market in the south, you can buy a small amount of fruit, such as an apple or pear. Shop owners even help you peel and cut them. But it’d be hard to find shop owners in the north offering this service .
The difference could be because of the difference climate. Food can be kept for a long time in the north, as it is usually cold and dry there. Many northerners have the habit of stocking up (囤货) on food. But because of the hot and wet weather in the south, those in the south prefer to buy just enough food for one meal or one day. Otherwise, the food may go bad.
Maybe these debates about differences help us Chinese know more about each other.

Every app on my phone wanted me to know 11/11 was coming last week. I asked a co-worker if it was a special holiday. She laughed and said it was a shopping holiday. “It’s just like Black Friday,” she explained. I hoped she was wrong.
Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving in the United States. For me, Thanksgiving is the best US holiday. It’s the holiday that does not need us to buy anything special. Yes, we buy turkey, but we also invite friends and family to share. Usually, each person cooks a different dish and brings it to the meal. It’s a day to be thankful—not for turkey, but for the people we care about.
Starting around 4 a.m., thousands of people crowd outside of stores and malls. When the doors open, they rush to the shelves (货架). What are they doing On Black Friday, stores offer deep discounts (折扣), but they have a limited (有限的) number of items. As a result, it’s “normal” for people to fight each other for cheap TVs and laptops (笔记本电脑)—even toilet paper! In less than 24 hours, many people forget the lesson of Thanksgiving. Instead, they become mindless consumers (消费者).
During 11/11, I opened Taobao to find a discount on winter clothes. Two hours later, I found myself a mindless consumer too. Although I didn’t fight in the crowded stores, I got lost among all kinds of goods and kept buying things I didn’t really need. Maybe my co-worker was right—in some ways 11/11 is like Black Friday.

A.Special holidays in the US.

Should Teenagers be Allowed to Shop Online
The other day I read a piece of news about a 12-year-old boy who spent 120,000 yuan shopping online. Online shopping is one of the new ways of shopping. I like online shopping and I often buy books, clothes and snacks through the Internet.
Compared to shopping in stores, online shopping has a lot of advantages, such as it makes shopping easier and more convenient. Just stay at home and turn on the computer, and you can buy the things you want. And we can save a lot of money.
Of course, it has some disadvantages as well. For example, we can not see the product by ourselves. We just get the information from the pictures. Therefore, we may make some mistakes, such as buying things with the wrong size. What’s more, it is sometimes unsafe to pay online.
