Why do we read, and sometimes even write poetry This question is easy to answer if we change the word poetry to songs.
I sing when I feel good. When I sing my favourite songs, I feel much better. Sometimes when I am listening to music and the song words, I feel that they are written for me. A good song always makes me feel something. There are songs that I sing in my head between classes and songs that I want to sing when the school is over. They help me spend the day.
They are like bright and warm colours in the middle of greys and shades. I like songs about love and friendship. My feelings are more special when I sing my favourite songs in English.
I also like reading. I used to avoid (避免) poetry until an e-pal told me I should recite poems and not look up the meaning of the words. Poetry uses many difficult words and idioms (习语), but the best thing is to just forget about them. At first I felt quite strange. Now I always close the door and read aloud. Reading aloud gives you a strange feeling, but when you have some practice and fall into the rhythm (韵律), the rhyme (押韵) and the sounds of the words, it is really a special experience (体验).
I began with small poems, but now I think I like long poems best. I have different feelings with different poems. When I have had a bad day at school, I read Keats and forget everything. When I am sad, I read Wordsworth by the light of a candle. When the poem is finished, I close the book and my sadness is gone.

Two months ago, my son Eric lost his trombone(长号). We were very sad.
We learned that telling friends about our sad things made us feel better and less worried. We received sweet messages from friends showing their care for us. Eric received the sweetest letter reminding us that although things in life can be sad and make us upset, we can still find kindness around us.
And then, another student at a different school heard about the situation and decided to give his trombone to my son. It turned out that it was the same kind as the lost one.
We met this young man who gave it to Eric. He hoped that Eric should never stop learning and making music.
We were so thankful and happy. Eric had his first concert a couple of weeks ago. One thing about kindness is that to the receiver of kindness, it might not be necessary, but to the giver who wants to change things for the better, it becomes really necessary.

Emily and George have lived next door as long as they can remember. When they were little, they used to play together. They were good friends, though they sometimes fought over toys or quarreled about what game they would play. As they grew older, they played together less. Emily preferred to be with girls, and George, boys, of course. When they were about fifteen, they almost stopped speaking to each other, not because they disagreed with each other about anything, but just because they belonged to different groups. Emily was developing into a very good student, while George was more interested in sports. Emily began to study French, and she liked French so much that she began to write plays in French. She also liked TV programs, and for some reason, she enjoyed watching football games very much. Her mother used to say, “Emily, I’ve never heard of a girl who likes football as much as you do.” Mrs. Mason simply did not approve of (赞成) her daughter’s interest. One day, when George was going home in the afternoon, he looked in the window of Emily’s living room and he saw that she was watching a football game on TV. He walked up and knocked at the door. Emily was surprised to see him, but she asked him to come in, and they watched the rest of the game together. Emily and George are good friends again. They still have different ideas about things sometimes, but they agree with each other that football is the world’s best game. Mrs. Mason doesn’t seem to disapprove of her daughter’s interest in football as much as she used to.
