Cathy Freeman, Aboriginal hero of Australia
One of the great heroes that competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games was an Aboriginal runner called Cathy Freeman. She has always been very proud to be an Aborigine.
At the Commonwealth Games in 1990, she was the first Aboriginal runner to win a gold medal. When she won the gold medal for the 400-metre race in the 2000 Olympics, she carried both an Australian flag and an Aboriginal flag. She has become a symbol of how different cultures in Australia can get along.
