It's easy not to think much about the intelligence of insects. Small creatures with even smaller brains—how smart can they be But as researchers begin to rethink how animals think, even insects are being seen in a new light. Now a new study from the University or Bristol finds that Heliconius butterflies(蝴蝶) have the ability to learn about space.
To test the butterflies' spatial learning abilities, the researchers set up experiments across three different spatial levels, each reflecting behaviors significant to their natural environment. First, they checked if the butterflies could find food among 16 flowers in a small area. Next, they enlarged the space, seeing if the butterflies could choose the correct side of a larger maze(迷宫) for food. Finally, they used a big outdoor cage to see if the butterflies could find their way through a wide T-maze for food. The butterflies succeeded in all tests.
The study's senior author, Dr. Stephen Montgomery, notes that these findings show the difficult behaviors that even familiar animals like butterflies exhibit as part of their natural ecology(生态). These species are processing diverse information from their environment and utilizing it to perform difficult tasks—all with brains just a few millimeters wide.
The researchers plan to further investigate Heliconius butterflies' spatial learning abilities by comparing them to closely related species that do not feed on pollen(花粉). This will help show how an animal's environment can affect the development of its thinking skills.
Co-lead author Dr. Priscila Moura stresses the significance of these findings, saying that they provide actual evidence of the butterflies' fascinating spatial learning abilities, a subject that has been discussed for nearly a century. With the new understanding, the researchers can continue to explore insect intelligence and behavior.
4.What did the University of Bristol's study find about Hehiconius butterflies
A.They are capable of spatial learning.
B.They require assistance in finding food.
C.They can fly long distances without rest.
D.They have a social circle like other insects.
5.What does paragraph 2 mainly focus on
A.The research benefits. B.The research process.
C.The research papers. D.The research team.
6.What does the underlined word "utilizing" in paragraph 3 mean
A.Checking. B.Seeking. C.Judging. D.Using.
7.What is Dr. Priscila Moura's attitude toward the findings
A.Doubtful. B.Puzzled. C.Supportive. D.Unclear.

Animal lovers have long suspected that playing with pups is good for the mental and physical health, and now science has confirmed it — for students in particular.
A new study done by researchers at the University of British Columbia concluded that the college students who spent time on drop-in dog therapy (治疗) sessions experienced an increase in feelings of wellness and a reduction in overall stress. The study, as reported by Science Daily, indicates that playing with pups is not only popular with the students, but also beneficial to their mental and physical health. This finding was seen across gender (性别).
The study, published on March 12 in the journal Stress and Health, involved 246 students who were surveyed before and after they dropped by dog therapy sessions. The young participants were given free access to pet, hug and talk to 7 to 12 therapy dogs. Additionally, they filled out questionnaires right before and right after hanging with the dogs, as well as 10 hours later.
According to researchers, these young adults experienced a notable increase in happiness, a significant reduction in stress and a flood of energy right after their sessions with the pups. Although the feelings of happiness and satisfaction weren't long-lasting, researchers say these effects have clear, positive advantages.
"These therapy sessions clearly provide benefits for students in the short term, so we think universities should try to schedule them during particularly stressful times, such as around exam periods," Frances Chen, assistant professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia and the study's senior author, told Science Daily. "Even having therapy dogs around while students are working on their out-of-class assignments could be helpful. "

The motivation for his invention came to Aarrav Anil last year when he saw his uncle Arjun, who has Parkinson's disease, struggle to eat. Some food spilled (溢出) out of his mouth, the rest splattered (溅) on his clothes. Arjun attempted to keep his dignity but the frustration forced him to give up and call his helper to feed him.
The sight of his uncle's shaking the spoon so violently inspired Aarrav, 17, from Bengaluru, south India, to turn to robotics. He locked himself in his room with microcontrollers, sensors, motors, and a 3D printer. What emerged was a prototype (原型) of a smart spoon that is now undergoing trials at the RV College of Physiotherapy in Bengaluru.
The sensors in the battery-operated spoon detect shaking on one side and activate movement on the other, effectively cancelling out shaking to keep the spoon stable.
"I've been fine tuning the design based on the college's feedback-that it needs to be waterproof so that it can be washed without damaging all the electronics inside; that it must be removable so it can be cleaned and replaced by a fork, " Aarrav says.
For Aarrav it is the peak of a 10-year interest in mechanics that began when his mother bought him a Lego set. He has now represented India at more than 20 robotics competitions across the world.
When the blueprint for the smart spoon won first prize in the future innovators category at last year's World Robot Olympiad in Germany, Aarrav felt encouraged to make the prototype.
More than 7 million people in India are estimated to have Parkinson's disease, a condition in which parts of the brain become progressively damaged and which mainly affects people over the age of 50. Symptoms (症状) include involuntary shaking and stiff muscles. As the disease progresses, eating can become more difficult, forcing people to rely on help from others.
Aarrav's ambition is that every family that has someone with Parkinson's will have the smart spoon. He says his uncle Arjun's words keep echoing (回响) in his mind: "Who would have thought such a small thing could mean the difference between dignity and indignity "
12.What can Aarrav's invention help people with Parkinson's do
A.Control their physical balance.
B.Boost their mood and relieve stress.
C.Maintain a good range of movement.
D.Feed themselves more independently.
13.What does the underlined part "fine tuning" in paragraph 4 mean
A.Overturning. B.Reconsidering.
C.Conducting a study of. D.Making minor changes to.
14.What is the author's purpose in mentioning Parkinson's in India
A.To show prospects of Aarrav's invention.
B.To reveal the nation's poor health situation.
C.To popularize general knowledge of the disease.
D.To convince people to volunteer for social causes.
15.What can be learned about Aarrav from the text
A.He enjoys being alone.
B.He has an innovative mind.
C.He used to be a health worker.
D.He longed to be a businessman.

People often say you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and that's actually quite true. 16. After all, making a good first impression is all about making others feel good when spending time with them. The following tips will help you make a positive impression every time.
Dress appropriately
17. That means dressing up or putting on nice, clean, situation-appropriate clothes for social situations. It isn't difficult and it doesn't have to cost you much, either.
Be aware of your body language

Eye contact is an easy way to make others feel comfortable, important and special. Nervous body language can make others uncomfortable and anxious. Try to be aware of your body language when communicating with others.
Respect the opinions of others
Not everyone will have the same opinion with you, and friendly disagreements can be a gateway to a great conversation. Respect other people's right to have their own opinion. Respect the opinions of others even if you disagree with them. 19.
20. People love talking about themselves, but generally, you want to be careful of taking over the conversation. By listening carefully to what others are saying, you are not only making them feel important, but you can gather cues you need to keep the conversation going and bridge to new topics.

When I was a twelve-year-old girl, I was so addicted to chatting online that some people even called me CyberSara. My mom, a lawyer, always complained that I spent too much time chatting with my Internet friends.
One day I got an instant message from a kid I didn't know. His name was Bradley, who said he was twelve and lived in New York. He asked if he could be my secret friend, and I thought that seemed pretty cool. Within a few days' chatting, I found that we both loved to play soccer, even though I didn't play as much as I used to. To my great joy, we both loved playing computer games very much.
Every day, Bradley and I chatted and emailed each other. We became best friends. He was interesting and seemed kind of smart—actually, much smarter than the typical (典型的,平常的) twelve-year-old boys I knew. I really liked chatting with him. He told me he really liked me. Bradley kept telling me New York was a cool place to live and emailed me amazing pictures of extremely tall skyscrapers He asked me where I lived. I told him I lived in Tampa. One day, Bradley shared good news with me that he was coming to Tampa with his parents. He invited me to have a secret meeting and go for ice cream with him in the ice-cream shop near my school. Eager to find what my secret Internet friend was like, I promised to keep it a secret, not telling my parents about our plan.
I was excited that I was finally going to meet Bradley after months of chatting. However, he refused to send me a picture of himself, saying he didn't want to ruin the surprise. It made me quite confused. Was there something wrong with him Was he a weird (奇怪的) guy who was not confident enough to show a picture of himself But he said everyone in his school thought he was the cutest boy in his class, so I thought he had to be normal.
The next day, I accidentally told Mom that I would meet my Internet friend alone.
……
The moment we entered the ice-cream shop there was no one but a weird grown-up(成年人).
……
The next day, I accidentally told Mom that I would meet my Internet friend alone. Upon hearing that, she began annoying me with a ton of questions, with her face full of anxiety. I eventually told her that Bradley was going to take me for ice cream near my school. "No. Never will you meet a stranger all alone. You are just a 12-year-old girl!", mom was beside herself with rage when I showed my determination to go. This was the first time in my life that I had witnessed my elegant lawyer mom lose temper. So furious was she that I had no choice but to bring her together. We prepared and drove to the ice-cream shop.
The moment we entered the ice-cream shop, there was no one but a weird grown-up. Noticing his strange appearance, I was enveloped by a sense of fear and clenched mom's hands tightly. "Who are you Are you Bradley " asked my mom. Shocked and speechless, the man sprang from the chair, attempting to flee away. But it was too late. Mom grasped his hand with all her might and asked me to call the police. Finally, my plan with the secret Internet friend ended up with a narrow escape from being cheated. Whenever I recalled the unusual experience, fear still lingered in my mind mixed with a sense of relief. Neither should we meet Internet friend without informing parents, nor should we share private information on the Internet.
I eventually told her that Bradley was going to take me for ice cream near my school. Neither should we meet Internet friend without informing parents, nor should we share private information on the Internet.

A.To show prospects of Aarrav's invention.

15.What can be learned about Aarrav from the text
