■写作项目——Write a letter of application
本单元的写作项目是写一封申请信。申请信是英语写作中常见的一种应用文体，其目的是申请者向招聘者展示自己的才华，陈述自己的简历，争取被录用。写申请信时应该紧扣用人单位的录用标准，表达自己的申请动机和优势。个人情况的介绍是申请信的核心内容，应尽可能向对方说明本人的长处，以便给对方留下好印象。在用词方面要言简意赅，直截了当。

申请信内容应包括申请者选择的工作、选择该工作的原因、个人教育情况、个人品质以及个人过去的相关经历。写作时要注意根据想申请的工作来介绍自己的优势和相关的经历，不要写和该工作无关的经历和品质。介绍自己的优点时，不要一带而过，而要进行适当的拓展或举例来补充说明。课文中介绍个人品质时用“I have participated in a volunteer programme, visiting elderly people in my area for the last three years.”进一步补充说明“I am a hard working and committed person.”。
三、学行文逻辑
写申请信时，要从多个方面说明申请的原因、个人优势、个人经历等。在写作时，一定要构思好先写什么，后写什么，从哪些角度逐一进行介绍，并使用一些表示并列或递进的衔接词语。如课文中分析自己与该岗位的契合度时作者使用了表示并列关系的连接词罗列自身优势，如also、 moreover、 in addition等。
四、学亮点表达
申请信中会说明求职的原因，所以一些因果句的运用会引起阅读者的兴趣，如信中的“... because I am very interested in becoming a journalist ... as I feel that it is important to know about the city we live in ... since I have worked with lots of different people on many projects for local events.”以上三个句子用了三个不同的表示因果关系的连词——because、 as和since，增强了语言的丰富性。

Another study by Pew Research Centre found 52 percent of experts in artificial intelligence and robotics were optimistic about the future and believed there would still be enough jobs in the next few years.The optimists pictured “a future in which robots do not take the place of more jobs than they create.”
“Technology will continue to affect jobs, but more jobs seem likely to be created.Although there have always been unemployed people, when we reached a few billion people, there were billions of jobs.There is no shortage of things that need to be done and that will not change，” Microsoft's Jonathan Grudin told researchers.
