THE MAN WHO CHANGED OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE UNIVERSE
Albert Einstein, , is often considered one of the smartest men who ever lived. He made numerous contributions to the world, the most . Einstein was not only a genius; he was a courageous and kind figure loved by many people.
This gentle genius was born in Germany on 14 March 1879. When he was 16, he tried to enter university in Switzerland, but failed due to his low scores in the general part of the entrance exam, despite obtaining exceptional scores in maths and physics. After studying for another year, he
After two years of looking for work as a teacher, Einstein took a job as a clerk in the Swiss patent office. study, earning a doctorate in physics in 1905. That same year, miracle year in science, he published four extraordinary physics papers. Following this, he gradually became famous throughout the world as the new Isaac Newton. After four years, he was able to quit his job at the patent office and enter research full-time at a university. In 1922, he was awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for his explanation of the photoelectric effect.
Circumstances changed in 1933, when Hitler came to power in Germany. Einstein, who was Jewish, found the doors of academic institutions closed to him. As a consequence, he had to flee Germany. After spending time in Europe, he finally took up a position as a researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, USA. Following that, he continued to make great achievements in physics and mathematics.
To the public, he was seen as a slightly odd-looking but kind and funny man. He had a thick moustache and long white hair, which sometimes stood on end as though he had just received an electric shock. Although he was a genius, he sometimes forgot things, like his friends' birthdays. But despite his peculiarities, he was loved by his friends and neighbours. There is even a story In fact, Einstein often encountered people on the street who would stop him and ask him to help explain things. After many such occasions, he finally started saying, “Pardon me! Sorry! Always I am mistaken for Professor Einstein!”

A man rides at full speed on a single-wheeled bike, leaning back on a seat fixed above a recycled tyre as he performs wheelies (杂技). This machine is just one of many crazy inventions from Make It Extreme, a channel run by Michael Mavros and George Shiailis, two best friends who use old materials to create unique and innovative mechanical projects.
The partners of this DIY design make the inventions to promote the joys of mechanical engineering and inspire creativity in others.
On Make It Extreme, they transform everyday objects and vehicles into extreme versions of themselves, pushing creative boundaries in the process. They build and design their projects, film and edit the entire process, then finally showcase the results.
“By passionately crafting furniture, engines, tools, toys and vehicles while using our imagination, we try to offer innovative solutions to various mechanical challenges,” explains Mavros. “We've shared this passion since our early years, and now, through our channel, we share it with millions of other people in an easily understandable way.”
For its 100th video, Make It Extreme introduced the Monotrack bike, constructed entirely from recycled and old materials. They utilised a 100cc two-stroke engine from an old scooter (摩托车), cutting the sidewalls of a used car tyre and fitting it around a recycled motor. The bike reflects their commitment to sustainability and creativity, purely for the joy and curiosity it brings.
“The idea for the Monotrack bike came from an old wartime photo where we saw a similar vehicle,” says Mavros. “Our creations are often inspired by things we've encountered before. For example, the Monowheel, where a person sits inside a huge wheel, was inspired by similar vehicles from decades ago, and our tank chair stemmed from the idea of creating an accessible adventure vehicle for people with limited mobility.”
Make It Extreme now has almost two million subscribers who are eager to tune in every month to see the partners' latest invention. And Mavros promises that next year will see them create their most daring project yet.

Ⅱ.阅读七选五
Alfred Nobel Rests in Peace
People like Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Mother Teresa have become famous all around the world. 8 They are all winners of the Nobel Peace Prize. But none of them would have received the recognition it brings if it had not been for one Swedish man, Alfred Nobel.
When Alfred joined the Nobel family company, it had been developing explosives for many years. His father had started the family fortune by working for the Russian army to produce landmines and sea mines. But the family made even more money by manufacturing nitroglycerine, which was a very dangerous explosive.
One day Alfred arrived home to find his 20-year-old brother Emil had been killed in a nitroglycerine explosion. 9 The result was dynamite (炸药), which became an immediate success all over the world.
Alfred Nobel always wanted dynamite to be used for peaceful means.Unfortunately, when the First World War ended, dynamite had been used to take away the lives of thousands of young men. 10 To see his invention being used in this way made him very sad.
Sometime later Alfred's older brother Ludwig died. One newspaper accidentally printed Alfred's obituary (讣告) instead of his brother's.It described Alfred as a man who had become rich by inventing a weapon of mass destruction. After reading the review of his life, Alfred was horrified and decided to use the great fortune he had made to reward people who had been working to promote good in society. 11 The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the person who had done the most, or the best, work to promote friendship between countries, to abolish armies or to hold and promote peace conferences.
In 1997, the Nobel Peace Prize went to an American called Jody Williams for her efforts to get landmines banned. 12 Perhaps now, Alfred Nobel will rest more easily in his grave.
A.And what do they have in common
B.Hence, it was a large amount of money.
C.Alfred was determined to invent a safer explosive.
D.He was so grieved by the accident that he even desired to give up his job.
E.Ironically, of course, the Nobel family fortunes had been built on mines.
F.Alfred had always hated war and considered it to be “the horror of horrors and the greatest of all crimes”.
G.The five awards he created were for physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and, most significantly, peace.
语篇解读:本文是一篇人物传记。文章介绍了诺贝尔奖的创始人Alfred Nobel的一生。
8.解析:选A 根据下文“They are all winners of the Nobel Peace Prize.”

A man rides at full speed on a single wheeled bike, leaning back on a seat fixed above a recycled tyre as he performs wheelies (杂技).
They utilised a 100cc two stroke engine from an old scooter (摩托车), cutting the sidewalls of a used car tyre and fitting it around a recycled motor.

Alfred Nobel Rests in Peace
People like Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Mother Teresa have become famous all around the world.__8__ They are all winners of the Nobel Peace Prize.
One day Alfred arrived home to find his 20 year old brother Emil had been killed in a nitroglycerine explosion.__9__ The result was dynamite (炸药), which became an immediate success all over the world.
Alfred Nobel always wanted dynamite to be used for peaceful means.Unfortunately, when the First World War ended, dynamite had been used to take away the lives of thousands of young men.__10__ To see his invention being used in this way made him very sad.
Sometime later Alfred's older brother Ludwig died. One newspaper accidentally printed Alfred's obituary (讣告) instead of his brother's.It described Alfred as a man who had become rich by inventing a weapon of mass destruction. After reading the review of his life, Alfred was horrified and decided to use the great fortune he had made to reward people who had been working to promote good in society.__11__ The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the person who had done the most, or the best, work to promote friendship between countries, to abolish armies or to hold and promote peace conferences.
In 1997, the Nobel Peace Prize went to an American called Jody Williams for her efforts to get landmines banned.__12__ Perhaps now, Alfred Nobel will rest more easily in his grave.
