Getting here is quite difficult, so apart from the Sami very few people have ever seen Sarek.
②Around 9,000 years ago是时间状语; 现在分词短语leaving behind about 100 glaciers作结果状语。
In 1909, Sarek was made a national park in order to keep the land in its natural state.

⑤since引导原因状语从句,主句中and连接pick up their tents和accompany them两个并列谓语动词短语。
But every spring, a small number of Sami still follow their reindeer into the valleys of Sarek, living in tents or old cottages and enjoying their traditions.
I am not a Sami, but in Sarek I've adopted some of their habits.

As a boy, John Kerr wanted to be a fireman or a park ranger (护林员). Looking back on that childhood dream, he says, “This is exactly what I was longing for.”
Instead, after graduation, he spent four decades at WGBH in Boston, one of the public broadcasting stations. He retired in 2005 at the age of 65 without any particular post-career goal in mind. After several aimless weeks, he decided to drive his camper to visit family in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
During the trip, he stopped at the Yellowstone Park Foundation, which raises funds for Yellowstone, America's first national park. As it happened, the foundation was hiring people to educate park guests on wolves. Later, Kerr signed up for the position as an intern (实习生).
Kerr stood out in the intern crowd—most of them were college and even high school students. But, in a sense, he had been prepared for this since his youth. His outdoor adventures with his grandfather had given him a love to nature, and as an adult, he had helped out at the local fire department on medical calls.
He also had something else. There are 31 million Americans between the ages of 44 and 70—some retired and looking for a third act, some looking for a more satisfying career—searching for something where they feel as if they are making a contribution, doing something to make their neighbourhood, their country, and their world just a little bit better. Kerr also had that deep urge to do something more.
From his internship, he moved up to ranger, educating park visitors, ensuring safe encounters between guests and animals, and responding to medical emergencies. He values his stewardship (管理工作) of what he describes as one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and appreciates the moments when he treats a visitor to an up-close look at one of the park's wolves or bears through his telescope.
“These are rich and all-too-rare moments,” recalls Kerr. “I never forget them.”

7.How does Kerr find his stewardship
A.Rare. B.Adventurous.
C.Educating. D.Rewarding.
根据倒数第二段中的“He values his stewardship (管理工作) ... through his telescope. (他很珍视自己对这个被他称为地球上最美丽的地方之一的管理,也很欣赏他带游客通过望远镜近距离观察公园里的狼或熊的时刻。)”以及最后一段“‘These are rich ... never forget them.’ (‘这些都是有趣而罕见的时刻,’克尔回忆道。‘我永远不会忘记它们。’)” 可知,作为一名护林员,Kerr非常珍惜和喜欢这份园林管理工作;由此可推知,他认为这份工作是值得的。故选D。
Ⅱ 七选五
It was through Bill Bryson's book The Lost Continent: Travel in Small Town America that I first experienced small town travelling. I was interested instantly on reading it, for driving across the countryside is always something I like.
__1__ True, the convenience and modernity are what small towns don't have. However, caught up in the crowd, people tend to lose the true meaning of life. They are moving quickly in the streets, as if there were steamy lava (炙热的熔岩) chasing them.
Many tourists don't realize the real purpose for travelling is to relax. __2__ They manage to escape a nine to five schedule of annoying work, only to dive into a nine to five schedule of shopping or forcing themselves into packed tourist sites. __3__ You don't get trapped in space filled with tourists, but miles of fields and woods. You don't get tiny parks with crowds of people, but natural forests where rare animals can be seen. Villagers say hi to you warmly as you drive here and farmers will warmly invite you home.
I once travelled to the Midwest and drove through the countryside. The scenery was absolutely magnificent. __4__ Farmers' houses were in and out of sight behind golden corn. Ponds (池塘) hid themselves behind woods, where a lone fisherman sat there, enjoying life.
Suddenly, it seemed to me that life couldn't be better. Just throw away the sadness and burdens (负担) that annoy us. What matters is the simple happiness of enjoying life. __5__
A.I have never been a fan of huge cities.
B.Cities are full of people we don't know.
C.Roads found their way through cornfields.
D.Big cities and small towns have their own uniqueness.
E.In big cities, they just leave one busy center, and get right into another.
F.Those problems, however, simply disappear into air in the countryside.
G.So why not leave the noisy cities behind, and get lost in the streets of small towns?

2.答案:E

Because of the politics and history of Africa, wild animals there, which are interested in finding food and water not in politics, are in trouble. In the past, there were no borders between African countries, and the animals could travel freely according to the season or the weather. However, in the 19th and 20th centuries, the continent was divided up into colonies and then into nations. Fences were put up along the borders, so the animals could no longer move about freely.
Some countries decided to protect their animals by creating national parks. Kruger National Park, created in South Africa in 1926, was one of the first. By the end of the twentieth century, it had become an important tourist attraction and a home for many kinds of animals. Among these, there were about 9,000 elephants, too many for the space in the park. It was not possible to let any elephants leave the park, however. They would be killed by hunters, or they might damage property or hurt people. South African park officials began to look for other solutions to the elephant problem.
As early as 1990, the governments of South Africa and Mozambique had begun talking about forming a new park together. In 1997, Zimbabwe agreed to add some of its land to the park. A new park would combine the Kruger National Park with parks in Mozambique and Zimbabwe. There would be no national border fences within the park, so that elephants and other animals from the crowded Kruger National Park could move to areas of Mozambique and Zimbabwe. This new “transfrontier” park would cover 13,150 square miles (35,000 square kilometers). The idea of a transfrontier park interested several international agencies, which gave money and technical assistance to Mozambique to help build its part of the park.
In April 2001, the new park was opened, with new borders and a new name: The Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. A border gate was opened between Kruger National Park and Mozambique, and seven elephants were allowed through. They were the first of 1,000 elephants that would be transferred to the world's greatest animal park.

Theme parks I just love them. In a month or so, the UK's finest will throw their gates open for the new season to thrill us with their engineered delights. As usual, I will be the first person inside. Yes, I may be a digital enthusiast, but to me there is nothing as irresistible or as thrilling as the full-on experience of spending a day in someone else's imagination.
Dr Carissa Baker, assistant professor in theme parks and storytelling at the University of Central Florida, argued in 2018 that theme parks are gatherers and tellers of stories. Their distinct narratives start before you enter the park, are played out in what you experience there, and continue after you've left. How do they do it Some believe it's down to creative direction and narrative system design. But I call it like I see it: they use all the psychological tricks in my social psychology textbooks to get us to feel and act in the way that the people behind the scenes foretell.
Everything in theme parks is manipulated (操纵). Everything is accounted for. Whereas in the digital world, designers infer what we feel, these theme parks digest these emotions. A famous example is Disneyland's Main Street USA, which you walk down on first entering the park: the sets have been designed with forced perspective so the buildings appear taller and grander than they really are. Techniques like this are everywhere to be seen in the squares of Renaissance Italy and Georgian England to make the buildings seem bigger than they were. The mythical Main Street is made to feel larger and more impressive, which gets visitors excited when they enter the park—we are the hero of Disneyland's narrative. Now that's a powerful trick.
The digital world is nowhere near as magical as these places are. Yes, digital designers can create something out of nothing with mathematics and electricity, but their best attempts are only shortcuts in two-dimensional space. All they have in their toolboxes are sight and sound. But in theme parks, digital is out of place. Yes, behind the scenes there are data machines that are trying to track us to make our experiences better and more personal. Except for one or two notable examples, digital tech isn't being used to enhance our time at the park in any practical way. It just gets in the way. And perhaps that is why I love theme parks. Because when I'm there, I want to be propelled (推动) by someone else's vision, and give over to the feeling.
The next killer app isn't on your device. It's in the places that thrill us and compel us to keep our phones in our pockets so we can truly experience them.

4.What do we know about John Kerr
A.He had had clear plans for his life after retirement.
B.He joined the program in the park by accident.
C.He fulfilled his childhood fantasy after graduation.
D.He helped greatly in raising funds for Yellowstone.
根据第三段“During the trip ... as an intern (实习生). (在这次旅行中,他在黄石公园基金会停留,该基金会为美国第一个国家公园黄石公园筹集资金。碰巧该基金会正在雇人向公园的游客介绍狼。后来,克尔报名成了一位实习生。)”可知,Kerr是偶然加入这个公园的项目的。故选B。
5.What made John Kerr outstanding in the internship
A.His previous experience.
B.His interest and personality.
C.His advanced degree of education.
D.His professional medical knowledge.
根据第四段中的“But, in a sense ... on medical calls. (但是,从某种意义上说,他从小就为此做好了准备。他和祖父的户外冒险经历让他爱上了大自然,成年后,他曾在当地消防部门帮忙接听医疗电话。)”可知,Kerr之前的经历让他在这次的实习中出类拔萃。故选A。
6.Which words can best describe John Kerr
A.Active and modest. B.Caring and devoted.
C.Patient and humorous. D.Hardworking and honest.
根据第五段中的“There are 31 million Americans ... to do something more. (有3,100万年龄在44岁到70岁之间的美国人——有些人退休了,正在寻找第三次人生,有些人在寻找一份更令人满意的职业——寻找一份他们觉得自己在做出贡献的工作,做一些让他们的社区、国家、世界变得更好的事情。克尔也有做更多事情的强烈愿望。)”可推知,Kerr很有爱心且有奉献精神。故选B。
1.答案:A
后文“True, the convenience ... were steamy lava (炙热的熔岩) chasing them. (没错,便利和现代化是小城镇所不具备的。然而,陷入拥挤的人群中,人们往往会失去生活的真谛。他们在街道上快速走动,就好像有炙热的熔岩在追赶他们。)”描述了作者对城市生活的负面感受,A项(我从来不喜欢大城市。)概括了段落内容。故选A。
2.答案:E
解析:前文“Many tourists don't realize the real purpose for travelling is to relax.”说明很多游客旅游时没有得到放松,后文“They manage to ... packed tourist sites.”
解析:前文“They manage to ... packed tourist sites.”描述人们旅游时忙碌紧张的情况,后文“You don't get trapped in ... fields and woods.”
3.答案:F
解析:后文“Farmers' houses were in and out of sight behind golden corn.”
4.答案:C
5.答案:G
解析:前文“Just throw away ... happiness of enjoying life.”
1.The passage begins with ________.
A.a common sense B.a fact
C.a mysteries event D.a theory
根据第一段中的“In the past, there ... about freely.”
2.Which of the following was a problem facing Kruger National Park
A.It was not big enough to hold all its elephants.
B.A lot of hunters slipped in to hunt animals.
C.As the first national park in Africa, it was not well designed.
D.Too much tourism did great damage to it.
根据第二段中的“Among these, there were about 9,000 elephants, too many for the space in the park.”

A.It is divided into three parts by fences along borders.
B.It is built mainly for elephants rather than other animals.
C.It is located across the border of South Africa and Mozambique.

根据第三段中的“There would ... 13,150 square miles (35,000 square kilometers).”
4.The passage talks mainly about ________.
A.how international aid has functioned in Africa
B.how the Kruger National Park will save its elephants
C.how three African countries cooperated to make a new park
D.how many African animals have suffered because of natural disasters
