The home of the future won't be completely different and we will be living in houses and flats just as we do today. But people will want to shape their homes to match their dreams. No two homes will be the same.People will be able to buy “house kits” containing a basic house structure, with movable walls, doors and windows. They will put together the different parts to create the home they want.
Many jobs that we do today will disappear, others will still exist but will change and new jobs will be created.Skilled workers such as builders, gardeners and electricians won't disappear because machines can't replace them.Teachers will still exist because students need human contact. But they will be using modern technology in class more and students will be working more from home. The medical technology revolution and space travel will create new jobs which we can only imagine today.
Space holidays will develop in the future, but these holidays won't be for everyone because they won't be cheap.Short space trips will develop first, then space hotels will orbit the earth where it will be possible to have a longer vacation.By the end of next century, there will be holiday centers on the moon with leisure facilities for families.
Paper won't exist in the future.Instead, there will be e-paper which people will be able to use over and over again. This will develop in order to save natural resources.E-newspapers and e-magazines will replace traditional newspapers and magazines and we will download information and news articles from the Internet every day onto our reusable paper.
The laws of physics tell us that the earth is going to disappear sometime in the future. This isn't going to happen tomorrow but scientists predict that it will happen in five billion years when our sun explodes. We will have to explore the universe and find another home.At some point in the distant future, either we stay on the earth and die with it,or we leave and move to another planet. There won't be any other choice.
4.Homes of the future will________.
A.be completely different from those of
today

7.We will have to move to another planet________.
A.if we want to live a better life

The Blue Eye of the Sahara is a geological formation in the Sahara Desert that resembles an enormous bullseye. The formation stretches across a 40-kilometer-wide region of the desert in the nation of Mauritania.
For centuries, only a few local tribes knew about the formation. It was first photographed in the 1960s by astronauts who used it as a landmark to track the progress of their landing.Later, the Landsat satellite took additional images and provided information about the size, height, and extent of the formation.
Geologists originally believed that the Eye of the Sahara was created when an object from outer space crashed into the surface. However, lengthy studies of the rocks inside the structure show that its origins are entirely Earth-based,as the formation contains rocks that are at least 100 million years old; some date back to well before the appearance of life on Earth.
Millions of years ago, volcanic activity from deep beneath Earth's surface lifted the entire landscape around the Eye.After the volcanism died down, wind and water erosion(侵蚀) began to eat away at the layers of rock. After years of erosion, the region began to settle down and fall in on itself, creating the roughly circular “eye” feature.
The Eye of the Sahara attracts both tourists and geologists to study the unique geological feature in person. However, because the Eye is located in a remote region of the desert with very little water or rainfall,it is not under much threat from humans.
That leaves the Eye at the mercy of nature. The ongoing effects of erosion threaten the landscape, just as they do in other places on the planet.Desert winds may well bring more dunes(沙丘) to the region, particularly as climate change causes increased desertification in the area. It's quite possible that,in the distant future, the Eye of the Sahara will be buried under sand and dust.Future travelers may find only a windswept desert burying one of the most striking geological features on the planet.
8.What do we know about the Blue Eye of the Sahara
A.It has been known for centuries.
B.It was created by objects from outer space.
C.It was useful to astronauts in the 1960s.
D.It was first photographed by a satellite.
9.Which factor directly contributes to its circular “eye” feature
A.Volcanic activity.
B.Climate change.
C.Wind and water erosion.
D.Desertification.
10.Which best describes the future of the Eye of the Sahara according to the text
A.Desirable. B.Secure.
C.Uncertain. D.Worrying.
11.What is the text mainly about
A.What is the Eye of the Sahara
B.Why is the Eye of the Sahara in danger
C.Why is the Eye of the Sahara popular
D.How can we save the Eye of the Sahara

To develop one's taste in English, the most effective way is to read English books widely.Yet one may be at a loss to choose the proper books, especially as a beginner. As a native Spanish,I would like to share some of my reading experience.
My first English novel was Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, recommended by many English teachers and professors as an ideal book for English learners. But my experience was somewhat horrible.I had great difficulty in understanding the novel, let alone enjoying it.It's not the vocabulary that troubled me,but rather the way Austen constructs sentences, and her way of thinking, which seemed rather unfamiliar to me at that time.My fading enthusiasm was much recovered after reading Hemingway's novel—A Farewell to Arms.No long and puzzling sentences. And I particularly liked his brief style. So my first suggestion is,as a beginner, you'd better choose modern novels instead of classical ones.
However,if you limit yourself to novels, you will miss a lot of treasures.Besides,English essays also play a key role. They can at once inform you, entertain you,and improve your taste in English. The best example is Bertrand Russell's work. Its language is plain, yet you cannot help feeling the elegance and the special sense of humor. His simple language enables his philosophy within the reach of ordinary people. Therefore, here comes my second suggestion—essays are also vital.
Never follow others' recommendations and opinions blindly, however famous or influential the person might be.We should be open to various ideas, but always think independently and determine for ourselves. As a saying goes,“one man's meat is another man's poison.”With that in mind,we are bound to find out our favorite writers through reading and develop our fine taste in English.
12.What made the first English novel that the author read hard to understand
A.Difficult conversations.
B.The old-fashioned vocabulary.
C.Not knowing the social background.
D.Sentences and Austen's way of thinking.
13.What does the underlined word “vital” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Important. B.Challenging.
C.Typical. D.Convenient.
14.What advice does the author give in the last paragraph
A.Compare books before buying.
B.Read books that are influential.
C.Don't blindly follow others' choices.
D.Choose books that challenge us most.
15.What is the author's purpose of writing the passage
A.Give comments on literature works.
B.Tell beginners how to choose English books.
C.Encourage people to read more English books.
D.Recommend first-class books to English learners.
How to Stay Focused in Class
●Avoid sitting with friends. No matter how much you want to sit with your friends during the class, try your best to avoid them.Talking with friends is not going to help you stay focused in class. 16
●Look at the teacher.Your teacher is not just standing up there talking. 17 Show the teacher that he or she has your full attention by looking him or her in the eye. This person should have your full attention at all times in class.
●Take notes.By taking notes, you'll be able to “get into” the lesson.Write down key points as your teacher speaks.Listen for key phrases such as,“This is important,” “This is the main idea,” etc. This can help you listen more attentively. 18
● 19 This is a wonderful way to become a more focused, successful student. When a teacher asks a question, offer to answer it.If he or she asks for an opinion, share your own. This shows the teacher that you're listening intently during the class.
●Ask a question. If you don't understand something, never be afraid to ask. 20 And he or she can recognize the things you're having difficulty with.Chances are that someone else in the class has the same question (and is too afraid to ask!).They'll be relaxed — and so will you.
A.It will cause trouble,too.
B.Take part in class discussions.
C.You'll have something to do and focus on.
D.You had better finish your homework in class.
E.Make the best of the break between two classes.
F.He or she is trying to give you an acceptable education.
G.This really shows your teacher that you want to be better.

Once upon a time,in a quiet countryside, there lived a humble farmer with a heart as vast as his fields. He had a litter of adorable puppies that he needed to find new homes for.One sunny morning,he decided to paint a sign advertising the puppies and set off to nail it to a post at the edge of his yard.
As he hammered in the last nail,he felt a small hand pulling at his clothes.Looking down,he saw the sincere eyes of a little boy looking up at him.The boy said,“Sir,I want to buy one of your puppies.”
The farmer, wiping the sweat from his face, replied,“Well, these puppies come from fine parents and cost a good deal of money.” The boy's head drooped (下垂) for a moment, but he reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of change, holding it up to the farmer.“I've got 89 cents. Is that enough at least to take a look?”
The farmer's heart warmed, and he smiled, saying,“Of course.” He then let out a whistle, calling,“Here,Dolly!” With that,a charming sight appeared as Dolly and her four adorable pups rushed out from the doghouse and down the slope. The little boy pressed his face against the fence, his eyes dancing with delight.
As the four puppies approached the fence, the boy noticed something moving inside the doghouse.Slowly, another little fur ball appeared, obviously smaller than the others. It wobbled (摇晃) down the slope, doing its best to catch up.The boy was very excited, and he pointed to the puppy, saying,“I want that one.”
The farmer, however, knelt down at the boy's side and gently said,“Son,you won't want that puppy. He will never be able to run and play with you like these other dogs would.”

Dear Mr.or Mrs.,
I bought an overcoat in your store last week.I feel bad to trouble you but I am afraid that I have to make a complaint.
The reason for my dissatisfaction is that your product and the service your staff have offered were not good enough. In the first place,I selected it according to the size chart shown on your homepage, but actually it was too small for me to put on.In addition, when I turned to your customer service staff for the solution, she ignored my request.
I appreciate it very much if you could change another bigger one for me or if I can get a refund and return the product, and I would like to have this matter settled by this Sunday.Thank you for your consideration and I will be looking forward to your reply.
Sincerely yours,
Li Hua
The boy took a step back, showing his disabled left leg.The farmer noticed the boy's leg for the first time and realized why he wanted the puppy that was struggling to keep up.The boy looked up at the farmer and said,“Sir,I don't run very well myself,so I understand. That puppy will need someone like me who can understand and love him just the way he is.”
The little boy's face lit up with gratitude.“Thank you, sir,” he said.“You have given me the best gift anyone could ever give.I promise to take good care of him and love him forever.” The farmer felt a warmth in his heart as he watched the little boy hug the puppy tightly. He knew that he had made the right decision. With a final nod and a smile, the farmer handed the puppy over to the boy.As the boy walked away, the farmer couldn't help but think about the power of kindness and how a simple act of compassion could change a life forever. From that day on,the farmer continued to spread kindness wherever he went, knowing that it was the greatest gift of all.

故填which。]
40.Although/Though/While [考查状语从句连接词。 故填Although/Though/While。]
故填be seen。]
此处是固定搭配:with an altitude of意为“海拔高度为”。故填with。]
